Good to see that Red is still king of the mountain of NBA coaches, and Phil is on the ledge below still looking up. If I was a Laker fan, I'd be embarassed with my team right now. Just like Yankees fans were after the Marlins beat them. Congrats to the Pistons. Don't burn the city down now.

Man, to give me ANOTHER reason to hate off-days, all the talk on the radio yesterday was about Curt Schilling revealing that he's getting work on his ankle in a private chat and the news getting out despite Curt telling everyone in the chat to keep it to themselves. I mean, trusting people on the internet to keep a secret? How naive can you get? Besides, Sons of Sam Horn are a bunch of elitist pricks. I mean, you have to get a WRITTEN reference from a current member to post at an INTERNET MESSAGE BOARD? That's insane.

Was there a reason I started all three Cup games for the Jokers? I mean, it's fairly obvious that I was going to get shelled in the other two starts. Is someone trying to sabotage my career and my future endorsement deals here or what?
-
Hey Al, you said in your recent baseball column that "The Diamondbacks are easily baseball's most successful expansion franchise." How do you figure that? The Marlins have TWO titles, and a lot of those Diamondbacks were gone over the next few years, or weren't the same (Luis Gonzalez, for one).

Interleague continues, as the AL teams head to the NL parks. It'll be interesting to see how guys like Ortiz and Manny will use the thin Colorado air to their advantage. But the game to watch today (Monday) is most definitely Cubs-'Stros with Mark Prior facing Roger Clemens. I'm assuming ESPN has it as their Monday afternoon game? I didn't hear what game they were airing when I was watching the Sox game.

In case you didn't know, they're playing the entire first season on Spike today. They're at the first Rags to Riches ceremony right now. And the first season is coming to DVD on June 22nd.

He once hyped up doing live coverage of some PPV, and completely forgot about it the day of the event, didn't he? Where has that kooky kat been, anyway?

I got Rise of Nations a few days ago. Excellent game, and I'm one that doesn't usually have the patience for RTS games. I'm looking for a place where I can download some scenarios and mods. Any help here?

Well.....why not? If we're only talking single season here, they have plenty of reasons to appear on a Top 25 teams list. - 14 straight wins, 2nd longest streak in NFL history. Add to that they beat some of the league's top teams in that stretch while dealing with injuries. - Absolute dominance at home; 8-0 record with the defense giving up only about 13 PPG (and only about 4 PPG the last 4 games of the regular season). - Beating both co-MVPs twice. I wouldn't dare put them #1, or even in the top 5, but somewhere in the teens (I'd say 15) would be about right. They weren't really a team that tore apart their opponents, but the numbers don't lie.

Well, not THAT bad a first start for the Jokers. I'm just surprised that we got 11 hits but only scored 4 runs. Where is this offensive machine I keep hearing about? RUN SUPPORT, people, run support. Oh, and while I'm here, after the NBA Finals are over, I'm pinning this thread until football season. It's popular, and Evo keeps up with it, so he deserves some love. Er.....some platonic, moderator-poster love, that is.

I'm assuming that small explosion I heard earlier was Dave Mishkin's larynx bursting? I'll bet every dog within a 5 mile radius were howling after the final horn sounded. Ah well, so long NHL. Let's bring on the WNBA talk!
-
Sure, send me to Vegas. The Pride's trainers grab my ass too much, and that's when I feel tightness in my shoulder!
-
All right, I demand out of Columbus. I get too many "close, but no ring" seasons from the real life team I root for as it is.
-
Just like to point out that Al created a thread for the MLB Draft, so please take the discussion there if you haven't already. Thanks.

This week begins the 8th (its been that many already?) year of Interleague Play. The AL East plays the NL West, AL Central plays the NL East, and the AL West plays the NL Central. I know people have differing opinions about the matter, so let's make it our Topic of the Off-Day: Do you like/dislike interleague, and why?

Well, when there is $60 million bet on the favorite, any other horse would net a good payday. The superfecta was over $11,000. Heh, the winning owners are getting booed.
-
Wow, first time I've ever won a bet on this big a race. I proabably won about $70, since I had it boxed, but I'll take it. Birdstone made his move at the perfect time and the track was just too long for Smarty to hold on. Good race, but it doesn't match up to the photo finish in '98 with Real Quiet. THAT was close.
-
And I don't get why people gather to watch a bunch of cars go around the same oval 200 times, but different strokes for different folks and all.
-
The Belmont is the longer track of the three. It's a mile and a half long, the only major horse race to be run on a dirt track that long. And the jockeys do have a purpose, you know. They're like NASCAR drivers; they steer the horse and make sure it is on a good pace.
-
The track was sloppy at the Derby, wasn't it? And that was after a big storm passed. This is the first steady rain of the day, so I guess the track won't be that bad (there is one more race to go before the Belmont, though).
-
Huh, here comes the rain just in time for the race. I played a 9-4 exacta box and a 4-5-9 tri key.
-
1937. War Admiral and Joe Medwick. I'll let you figure out who was the horse.
-
I'm watching ESPN's coverage, and so far today a new track record was set on the dirt and THAT was almost topped a race later. The track seems really fast today, and it looks like the rain will hold off, so if Stewart Elliot can keep him from shooting out of the gate and tiring out on the backstretch (especially since he's on the outside to start), which has felled other horses (Funny Cide last year), I think he'll take it.
-
So I guess we're at the point of the season where the Yankees open up a 7 game lead and the Sox have to chase them the rest of the year? It's like clockwork, I tell ya.
-
Not really relevant to the series and all, but can I just point out that the Tampa Bay PBP radio guy is an embarrasment to the profession? WEEI (the Boston sports radio station) plays his calls every day after games, and it's just laughable that he still has a job. I mean, really, Joey Styles' voice didn't even jump as many octaves as this guy's does after goals. That crap might fly if you were a college broadcaster, but he's supposed to be a professional, have at least SOME composure.
