I don't have a problem with that call. The ball was away from Mewelde Moore, and the Giants DB could clearly see he didn't have it with enough time to avoid making the hit. The same kind of call was made in the Atl/Philly game, as Lawyer Milloy LIT UP LJ Smith after Smith failed to make a catch and was slowing up.
It's 1 thing if the receiver is trying to catch the ball, or if the ball has just arrived at the receiver, but I agree that defender shouldn't be lowering the boom on guys after the ball is well away from the receiver and the defender has enough time to avoid making the hit.
I'm pretty sure the "defenseless player" rule has been around for a few years, as I'm pretty sure I remember a call going against Miami for it.

How awesome was it when Pete barged into Cooper's office to rat out Don, only to have Cooper say "Mr. Campbell, who cares?" (that was the payoff I was referencing above)? I almost fell out of my seat watching that scene. "The Wheel" was such an awesome cap off to a great season.
(And you know that Peggy's baby is Pete's, right?)
Hey, Cheech, did you finish off S1 yet?
Also, Jon Hamm is hosting SNL this Saturday. It'll be interesting to see if they do a Mad Men parody (Casey Wilson as Joan Holloway!).
No, he's right, they did their finisher on a ref at a house show, as well as auctioned off some of his clothing. It was all unscripted, which upset the ref & management. That, combined w/ the Cade/Murdoch stuff, got them fired.
Creed got off the best line of the night, talking about how nobody steals from Creed Bratton & gets away with it: "The last person who tried it? His name was *whispers* Creed Bratton."
Yeah, Vince only makes a ton of money off those people, it's totally ridiculous that he would want to keep doing so (not to mention building up the next generation of fans). What a horrible business plan!
