I agree that you guys deserve it but due to time zone differences it won't happen. Either you'll have to show up at the arena at 1am or the West Coast fans will have to order the PPV at noon. Summer Slam 92 was on a 2 day tape delay. They could get away with that stuff back then but with the Internet ... nope.
-
I heard Hall gave both guys shit for not working the match right ... or something along those lines. Haven't seen the match since it aired live so I don't know what problems there could have been with it.
-
No one was complaining about the WWE catering to the local crowds, though. Those were two different topics, hence the space in-between.
-
The only two free TV matches, off the top of my head: March 96 - which was used as buildup for Mania June 96 - KOTR Quarter Finals or Qualifying match ... could be wrong but I believe this was the match in which Austin busted out the Stunner for the first time Savio did beat him in the Beware of Dog 1 strap match that didn't air due to the power going out.
-
Btw, it looks like the same show took place last night in Spartanburg.
-
You know what's not a fun game? Finding fault in every little thing. They're catering to the local crowd. It's a good thing and should be done more often.
-
Savio beat him in the strap match ... I don't know about the every week part.

I think so. I think they were just holding Austin at bay, not wanting to commit to anything long-term with him until they were sure Bret was coming back. He humiliated Yoko in a matter of minutes at Summer Slam then at Mindgames talked trash about Bret.

After coming off a major loss at WrestleMania, the KOTR further established Bret as a top guy. He very easily could have been lost in the shuffle at that point, especially now that Hogan was back in town. And the win was to have set up a Bret / Hogan match at Summer Slam. Lawler was plan #2. As for Owen, it takes a LOT to establish a guy as a main event player when only a year prior he was doing jobs to Mr. Hughes and Bastion Booger. The KOTR helped him significantly. He was by no means cemented.

Fans get ejected for that stuff all the time. Since none of us were there to see what the fan actually did, I'd hardly use that as evidence that Bradshaw is an ass.
-
1. Larry "the Axe" & Curt Hennig 9. The only thing that comes to mind is Pat Tanaka but he never held WWF tag gold. 10. Luger & Davey Boy
-
I agree. The NWA was more of a no frills promotion. As Jim Ross used to say "This is the NWA. We don't have guys posing to rock music, we have wrestling!"
-
Bret was to have met Hogan in the 93 version and would have won the title off hiim as well.
-
Hogan hits legdrop, Papa Shango breaks cover, DQ. Instead we have: Hogan hits legdrop, Sid kicks out because Shango was late, Wippleman interferes to cause lame DQ, Shango comes out.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it.

If you can find any, I'd recommend picking up some of the Turner Home Video tapes of the Starrcades and GABs from the 80s. The stuff from 86, 87, 88, and especially 89. It's cut down from the original airing but it's a good introduction to the product.

In the summer of 1987, Savage was a tweener. He was still having matches with Hogan but ever since winning the IC title in June the Honkytonk Man quickly laid claim to being the best IC champoion of all time ... Savage took exception to that. If you take a look at the print ads I have from 1987, you can see that Savage faced Honky on August 1st and then Hogan on the 8th. The fans just took to Savage in his quest to shut HTM up. That took off even more at the September edition of Saturday Night's Main Event in which Honky slapped Liz and Hogan made the save.
-
Actually I don't know that. That's the only money match the WWE has for Smackdown right now and - given the talent involved - it can easily work. The champion that will never quit vs. the challenger that can never sell. Imagine the kind of rub Eddie would get from a win over Taker or even a multi-month feud.
