The Ultimate Fighter: Noguiera vs Mir
Your Paragon of Virtue replied to Mik's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
Guess I was wrong, though he did have fight ending power so I assumed that he might have been the guy. Ah well, that nurse is pretty tough, no foolin' -
Ultimate Fight Night 15: Diaz vs Neer
Your Paragon of Virtue replied to Lord of The Curry's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
What the hell was this? Both of those guys don't belong in the UFC. Eric Schafer's takedowns were weaksauce and he had no striking/setups at all, and I saw that arm triangle a mile away. Terrible, but still a fun fight I guess. -
UFC 91: Couture vs Lesnar

Rampage is still ducking his head down when in close and he's still throwing those big hooks that cause him to leave himself open for some wild swinging which Wanderlei seems to be, well, okay at I guess. I saw plenty of the same old in the Griffin fight, and he obviously is still not really thinking about leg kicks so much. Unless he gets some serious muay thai training at Wolfslair, and it's hard to correct something like that after so long, he's gonna make the same mistakes and probably get brutally KO'ed again. -

Dana White said the guy was only 24, and Duarte is 24. The other guys that were 24 in the house didn't fit the description. It's him. -

UFC 94 - Georges St. Pierre vs. BJ Penn II
Your Paragon of Virtue replied to Mik's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
Btw, after looking over the amount of partisanship going on in this thread, I'm thinking a "Which fighters do you hate in MMA and why" thread is in order. If I don't see one up by tonight I'll make it. There's too much goodness to be had from this. -
UFC 94 - Georges St. Pierre vs. BJ Penn II

I'll admit that he didn't endear himself to me by beating Karo, but I don't think I actively disliked him just then. Ah god, Karo? Of all people to hate in MMA, he has to be high on the list. "I never lost a fight", "DUDE RESPECT ME BRO I'LL KICK ALL YOUR ASSES", "That guy was on steroids". He has so many reasons above the fact that he's a typical cocky, shit talking Armo (Yeah slightly racist but if you live in North Hollywood you can probably understand). You wanna talk about being two faced, he totally backed off of all the shit he said on The Ultimate Fighter, trying to play it off on a 'language barrier'. Talk about being too much of a pussy to man up and admit when you fucked up. I'm not saying you still like the guy, but I had to go off on a tangent about that crazy Armenian. -
UFC 88: Breakthrough - Liddell vs. Evans

"His bob and weave is textbook Joe, he really has earned the nickname of 'Sugar'. His head movement reminds me of a young Roy Jones Jr." "OH YEAH THIS IS A CRAZY FIGHT" "All he wants to do...is shock the world" Chuck knocks him down to the Middleweight division. All logic points to this, but with MMA being what it is, Rashad wins via flying triangle choke in the first round. -
UFC 94 - Georges St. Pierre vs. BJ Penn II
Your Paragon of Virtue replied to Mik's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
Let's be real here though, you hated him from the moment you first locked eyes. It's very irrational. You've forgiven other fighters *cough*Kid Yamamoto*cough* for far worse transgressions than whatever this nice Quebecer has done. I think it's all about the fanbase in both people hating either of these guys. If you're a fan of fighting, there's no reason to hate either of them. Unless you're one of those people that wants to have perfect role models in sports who do no wrong EVER and want vanilla bland type personalities. In which case, you're a fucking faggot. -
I love how BJ Penn comes in at the end and tries to get Georges to commit to the fight already, so that by saying it out loud on a PPV they have no choice but to throw down. DO YOU WANT IT DO YOU WANT TO DO IT HUH Ohcongratulationsgoodjob DO YOU WANNA FIGHT ME It's too bad there are no knees allowed on the ground, I think Georges could have finished Fitch in the first round, and Lesnar probably would have finished Heath also. I agree about Ken-flo actually disappointing me, Huerta has a lot of holes in his game and Kenny was too tentative to finish and exploit. He's nowhere near ready for a title shot, especially in a division as stacked as the lightweight one. I was happy to see the anvil get dropped on the anvil. I don't really like that guy. Great PPV.

I think J-Mac's the one that will get tired first, especially when he is struggling and bucking Maia off of him while defending GnP. I think this is a showcase fight for Maia. J-Mac was taken down and destroyed by Kalib Starnes not too long ago, and while he has improved since then considerably, I think it's only enough to let him last a round. WHile you say he will win the fight later on, he hasn't really shown great conditioning in the past.
-
I think Maia is just a really bad style matchup for a guy like MacDonald. WHile he's the more experience MMA vet in that matchup, I foresee this one going somewhat like Jacare vs. Mayhem, and I Don't think MacDonald is as good a striker as Mayhem to give Maia as many problems. I think Herring being the underdog is weird also, even though I think he'll lose, because Brock is very green. I don't think Heath will deal well with Brock's aggression on the ground though, the bigger more credentialed wrestlers he fought were LnP guys, and from what little I've seen from Brock he doesn't seem to be in the same mold. Heath was getting taken down by Chieck Kongo of all people, after all. It's too bad Brock is getting two solid vets from the start, as he has a ton of potential and it would have been nice to see him fed some cans to build some confidence as well as give him time to polish his skills. He asked for tough guys though, so respect. PREDICTIONS~! Saunders by TKO in the second Wilson by UD Gusmao by TKO in the first McCrory by TKO in the second Kongo by KO in the first Maia by submission in the second Manny by Submission in the second Ken Flo by UD Lesnar by TKO in the second GSP by TKO in the third I'm pretty much pulling for all those guys except for Ken-Flo.

WEC 35: Three Championship Bouts

Wouldn't that go against what you were saying? Anyway, the point wasn't about Guillard himself, I figured you'd know what I was getting at, and why people would pick Hicks in a standup war. -

Beating Takanori Gomi the way he did made him undisputed top lightweight. That fight was huge. He brought out a guy considered to be one of the best and made that main event for the ROTR. A lot of people were looking forward to it because it brought out the best guy from North America against the best guy from Japan. While GOmi losing to Hansen just before kinda put a damper on this, he was still considered a top guy and for BJ to run through him the way he did, displaying all aspects of mixed martial arts in fine form, made him the best lightweight in the world. Hindsight being 20/20, I don't think anyone would have had any doubts who was the top lightweight at the time. I would say he is the top lightweight in the world now too, as every ranking I've seen has him placed as such. I'd say that's pretty undisputed. Still, I wasn't thinking about now when I mentioned that. In November 2003, he was the best lightweight in the world. In January 2004, he was the best welterweight and the best P4P guy in the world. These are amazing accomplishments, and for you to say he doesn't have the resume to deserve the accolades that he gets, is ludicrous. Honestly, BJ Penn will fight anybody, anywhere, anytime. To back up this heart, because anybody can be a Josh Haynes, he's got tremendous skills and is a very intelligent fighter to boot, if you've ever seen him break down the game. I respect the hell out of him for these reasons, and while I can understand why someone would love GSP, as I do, to not like BJ at all is fucking nuts. Hate his personality, but he is a "fucking fighter".
-
You hating on GSP because of his fanboys is about as lame as LOTC hating on Penn because of his fanboys... Yeah, not really. GSP fanboys can back up their love with his resume. Penn fans can't. BJ Penn has been the undisputed number one fighter in more than one weight class, the two deepest at that. No other fighter in the history of MMA can claim this. Not _one_

You can't pull a guillotine from side control on anyone but a 150 lb white belt who is a bitch and panics at the first sign of trouble. Fixed it for you.
-
It billed itself as "real fighting" but there was a lot of boo-sheet going on in this card. For all those who complain about Sleazy D, I hope you now realize what alternatives you've got.

I really, really like the WEC. I can do without the constant shilling of "CARLOS CONDIT IS THE BEST WW IN THE WORLD" or "URIJAH FABER IS AN ANIMAL! CURRAN ONLY LASTED ONE AND A HALF ROUNDS" Never mind that he rode Faber's back for the first round and had him in a lot of trouble. But still, the fights themselves are pretty boss, man.

About the boxing, Georges Laroque. Never lost a fight in the NHL, he actually trains boxing *on skates* for that reason. He's fought the best of the best too, as far as NHL goons. He's also a super athlete. A friend's brother went to high school with him, and said he would be able to dunk a basketball with his hockey gear on his back. -
That's pretty interesting.

Well it sounds like you don't have much to share, because even I know that.
