  3. National television schedule. Last full week of the college football season yet not as much television coverage as usual this week for whatever reason. Weird ABC scheduling this week as it appears most of the country will be split between the two early games (with most probably getting Michigan/Ohio State) and I'm guessing just the Pacific Northwest will get stuck with the late Apple Cup game. FSN also appears to have regional scheduling this week with their early game with most of the country getting the Oklahoma game. THURSDAY Maryland at #15 Virginia Tech, 7:45/4:45 PM, ESPN SATURDAY Wake Forest at #12 Miami, Noon/9:00 AM, ESPN Michigan State at Penn State, Noon/9:00 AM, ESPN2 #2 Oklahoma at Baylor, Noon/9:00 AM, FSN* Iowa State at Kansas State, Noon/9:00 AM, FSN* #7 Michigan at Ohio State, 1:00 PM/10:00 AM, ABC* #19 Virginia at Georgia Tech, 1:00 PM/10:00 AM, ABC* #3 Auburn at Alabama, 3:30/12:30 PM, CBS Stanford at #4 California, 3:30/12:30 PM, FSN #13 Wisconsin at #18 Iowa, 4:30/1:30 PM, ESPN BYU at #6 Utah, 7:00/4:00 PM, ESPN Washington at Washington State, 7:00/4:00 PM, ABC* Oregon at Oregon State, 7:00/4:00 PM, FSN Florida at #8 Florida State, 7:45/4:45 PM, ESPN

  5. Tigers have signed Troy Percival to a two-year, $12 million. Good contract length but waaaaaay too much money for a closer who's best days are far behind him. I'm starting to think the "market correction" of the last two years is over. Not good news for low revenue/cheap ownership teams.

  9. http://forums.thesmartmarks.com/index.php?...topic=45168&hl= And I started the thread! I hate Bonds but there is no legitimate argument for him not winning the MVP this year.
  10. I can't find the complete voting yet (Top 5 went: Bonds, Beltre, Pujols, Rolen, Edmonds) but apparantly one voter voted Bonds 3rd.
  11. I'm gonig to continue to try to keep this from now spreading into four different threads. Here are Dama's last posts in three other threads so please let's reply to them here:
  12. Okay Dama's madness is spreading in multiple threads again and this thread was created to avoid this. I'll get the conversation started back up in here...OKLAHOMA IS TEH SUC!!! Discuss.

  14. Two weeks left and several teams play their final conference game this week. A reminder Michigan State is now a dead team and teke184 will use his picks for them the final two weeks. We'll see if Loaded Glove drops out as well as West Virginia forfeited last week. It's not a strong week for tight match-ups so I only went with 17 games to pick from instead of 20 that I've be doing the last few weeks. I could have added some more smaller conference games but since so many whined when I did that before I had to throw in some major conference games where I don't think many people will go with the upset but oh well. No Friday game this week so there is only the Thursday deadline before Saturday. That means if you don't get your picks in by Thursday you can't win by tiebreak. Week 12 Deadlines Thursday, November 18th, 7:45 PM EST/4:45 PM PST -lose out on MD/VT pick and both tiebreakers Saturday, November 20th, Noon EST/9:00 AM PST -forfeit Week 12 Match-ups #2 Minnesota* PM (Vern Gagne, 7-4) vs. Notre Dame* (Lando Griffin, 8-3) - GAME OF THE WEEK #1 Virginia* (Edwin MacPhisto, 8-3) vs. West Virginia (Loaded Glove, 4-7) #3 Syracuse* (Canadian Chris, 9-2) vs. Maryland* (MarvinisaLunatic, 7-4) #4 UCLA* (phoenixrising, 6-5) vs. USC* - late (Cartman, 5-6) #5 Washington State* - late (bravesfan, 6-5) vs. Miami* (Spaceman Spiff, 3-8) #6 Ohio State* (Gert T, 6-5) vs. Michigan* (Mad Dog, 4-7) #7 Oregon* (nogoodnick, 6-5) vs. Tennessee* (Kotzenjunge, 3-8) #8 LSU* PM (teke184, 8-3) vs. Oklahoma* (Damaramu, 4-7) #9 Hawaii* (Will Scarlet, 5-6) vs. Arizona State* - late (Spicy McHaggis, 4-7) #10 Stanford* (Bored, 8-3) vs. Boise State* PM (Vern Gagne/*dead team*, 5-6) Texas* - late (Flyboy, 5-6) vs. Boston College* (HarleyQuinn, 5-6) Alabama* PM (AlwaysPissedOff, 6-5) vs. Auburn* (Agent of Oblivion, 5-6) Penn State* (therealworldschampion, 3-8) vs. Michigan State* PM (teke184/*dead team*,4-7) Georgia* (A_MikeSC, 9-2) vs. Rutgers* (the pinjockey, 4-7) Kent State* (JHawk, 5-6) vs. Bowling Green* (iggymcfly, 7-4) Florida* (Agent Bond34, 3-8) vs. Florida State* (2GOLD, 4-7) Week 12 Games to make picks for THURSDAY Maryland at Virginia Tech SATURDAY South Carolina at Clemson Iowa State at Kansas State Virginia at Georgia Tech Michigan at Ohio State UAB at Army Ball State at Central Michigan Rutgers at Navy Middle Tennessee at Troy Kansas at Missouri Arkansas at Mississippi State San Jose State at Tulsa Colorado State at Air Force Auburn at Alabama Wisconsin at Iowa Oregon at Oregon State Florida at Florida State Tiebreak #1: How many total points will be scored in the Maryland/Virginia Tech Game? 15. White Sox fans can breath easy...Giants are the winner of throwing away money on Omar Vizquel. http://cbs.sportsline.com/mlb/story/7887714 3-years, $12.25 million. Now Vizquel did have a pretty good year last season but at his age committing to a three-year contract to him is fairly stupid. I guess after the horror of having Neifi Perez out there they felt desperate to sign a shortstop.
  16. The conference championship game will typically help you, as long as you win. Last year LSU jumped USC because of playing the SEC title game. Everyone focused on them losing the since thrown away quality win bonus but it was because of playing Georgia a second time that helped LSU's SoS. USC's SoS was actually better than LSU's before the SEC title game.
  17. Oh no he's got a twin now! Anyways those SoS rankings are strictly based on win/loss record. By that method beating Bowling Green is just as good as beating Georgia or Virginia Tech. So let's just say it's a very flawed way to compare schedules. Things will get a bit tighter in those straight up SoS rankings anyways with the remaining schedule of those three teams. BTW since when was the Texas win a road game? The Red River Shootout is a neutral site game. Sure it's in Dallas but the crowd is split 50/50. USC's win over Virginia Tech was more of a road game than that as it was in Landover, MD in front of a partisan Virginia Tech crowd.
  18. Aw dammit I was just going to double check that. I forgot the Top 6 rule was meant to apply to non-BCS conference teams. So okay Texas is the odd team out with Cal and Utah automatically being in. Now I guess they have to hope Michigan doesn't jump them.
  19. The order of choice is Rose, Sugar, Fiesta. The Rose Bowl will take Cal and even if the Sugar takes Miami first the Fiesta is required to take Oklahoma if they are not in the Orange Bowl. It will then bounce back to the Sugar Bowl who would take Texas over Utah and then the Fiesta would have to take Boston College since they have an automatic bid. If Oklahoma goes to the Orange Bowl, the Sugar Bowl would be required to take Auburn with it's pick, then it'd be up to the Fiesta to pick either Utah or Texas. You go to do the math: Eight bids, six conference champs, two at-large teams. Three teams who will not get automatic bids currently are in the top six so that gives you nine teams going for eight spots. Being in the top six does NOT assure a BCS bowl in this current scenerio.
  20. No it doesn't. Look at the automatic bids right now: Pac-10: USC Big XII: Oklahoma SEC: Auburn Big Ten: Michigan ACC: Miami or Virginia Tech Big East: Boston College So that leaves you with the two at-large spots and you currently have three teams in the top six (Cal, Texas, Utah) who would not have automatic bids. If USC does go to the Orange Bowl, we all know Cal will go to the Rose Bowl. Then that leaves one spot left in the BCS between Texas and Utah so one of them will be left out regardless of them being in the top six. If Auburn goes the Orange Bowl and Oklahoma goes to the Fiesta Bowl, the Sugar Bowl will almost assuredly take Texas over Utah. If Oklahoma goes to the Orange Bowl and Auburn goes to the Sugar Bowl then the chances are better for Utah since the Fiesta Bowl has showed a lot of interest. Basically if your Utah you need to root for A&M to beat Texas and/or Oklahoma to hold to the #2 spot.
  21. Yes they were #25 in the Coaches poll, unranked in the AP, and unranked in the BCS which is the only rankings that matter. They'll be unranked in all polls this upcoming week. It's like claiming Ohio State as a Top 25 team. On an unrelated note if USC vs. Auburn is the Orange Bowl match-up and that other team then has to go to the Fiesta Bowl, Utah will not be going to a BCS bowl. The reason why is that would leave the Sugar Bowl with an open spot and they would take Texas over Utah. Even if it's USC vs. that other team there is no guarentee that the Fiesta Bowl would still take Utah. Texas is a very big draw and they're fans travel very well. Utah needs A&M to beat Texas in two weeks or I think they will end up in the Liberty Bowl which as I mentioned earlier in the day would be a tougher match-up for them in Louisville than if they ended up playing Boston College.
  22. Five teams? You sure about that? You might want to take another look. Edited.

  24. Yes, you have to finish with at least seven wins to be bowl eligible. Dead teams are not eligible for conference chamionship or bowl games. Florida and Tulane are both up big so I'm calling both of those games. 25. You're right iggy the Big XII automatic bid goes to the Fiesta Bowl if the conference champ is not in the national championship game. I'm thinking about the possibilty of Utah vs. Boston College in the Fiesta Bowl and wouldn't it be bizarre that Utah would be playing a lesser quality opponent in that bowl than the would be playing in the Liberty Bowl (Louisville)?
