  1. Never underestimate the stupidity of baseball writers and their obsession with runs batted in.

  3. Conferences by average BCS ranking. 1. Pac-10 38.40 2. SEC 38.67 3. Big East 39.00 4. Big Ten 43.36 5. ACC 49.67 6. Big XII 52.00 7. WAC 72.67 8. Mountain West 73.56 9. Conference USA 75.00 10. MAC 86.50 11. Sun Belt 94.88 No I'm not arguing the Pac-10 is better than the SEC and I personally hate conference vs. conference arugments. I will say the Pac-10 has a lot more depth than the Big Ten this year.
  4. Texas would be in the Orange Bowl in the old system with the Big XII/Big 8 champ always going there. So lame they abandoned that tradition a few years ago for the Arizona State Bowl. And since we're talking bowl projections here are mine.
  5. Yes, fuck a system that doesn't favor losing to a jobber from the Pac-10 over losing to the undisputed #1 team in the country a couple of weeks later into the season! I say fuck a system that might match-up the Pac-10 champ against the Big Ten champ in some tacked on championship game instead of the Rose Bowl.
  6. LSU will have to beat Arkansas as they'd have no shot with three losses. West Virginia has an oustide shot of cracking the Top 4 which would make them automatic qualifier.
  7. Because rematches in college football are almost sacreliege and until there is a true playoff system I never want to see one in any bowl game. Michigan got their chance, they lost. It was close but there was nothing controversial about it and nothing to indicate that Ohio State wasn't the better team. Besides is losing to Oregon State on the road really worse than almost losing to Ball State at home?
  8. For games I've seen in person the one that always first comes to mind is the A's 20th straight win in 2002, blowing an 11-0 lead and then winning on a Scott Hatteberg homerun. Two games that I just remembered that I always meant to track down that were from 1988. A's played back-to-back games that went 16 innings, both games won by Mark McGwire homeruns. 7/3/88 A's at Blue Jays 7/4/88 A's at Indians

    NFL Week 11

Gore ends up with a new team record of 212 yards rushing.
  10. The likely outcome of who will face Ohio State in the Fiest Bowl, part II is just depressing for me. Either we'll get a traditional Rose Bowl match-up, except not in the Rose Bowl, or we'll get the always lame rematch of a game already played. But now with only two weeks left in the season I can actually make an attempt to make my own projections that go beyond guessing. When it cames to the ACC though it will still be guess work as there is still way too much unresolved business in that conference. Also projecting the non-confernece winner besides Michigan to get into the BCS is tough but I'm picking West Virginia for now. For open bids the Big Ten won't be able to fill the Motor City Bowl and the ACC might not be able to fill the MPC Computers Bowl. One thing I should point out in regards to the Gator Bowl that I wasn't aware of. Now in my previous bowl entries I brought up how they have the option now of passing on the Big East #2 selection (sending them to the Sun Bowl) and going with a Big XII team. What was not aware of that they have the option of taking the Big XII #2 pick one time in the next four years. So because of that I, and others, are projecting Oklahoma to get snatched up by the Gator Bowl. This would cost the Sooners $500k as the Gator pays out $2.5 million compared to Cotton Bowl which pays out $3 million. Are bowl politics fun? Also the Birmingham Bowl has been named the PapaJohns.com Bowl. Why exactly did they need the .com part? Poinsettia: TCU vs. Washington State Las Vegas: BYU vs. Oregon New Orleans: Middle Tennessee vs. East Carolina PapaJohns.com Bowl: Tulsa vs. Pittsburgh New Mexico: New Mexico vs. San Jose State Armed Forces: Utah vs. Rice Hawaii: Hawaii vs. UCLA Motor City: Central Michigan vs. South Carolina Emerald: Arizona vs. Florida State Independence: Kansas State vs. Alabama Texas: Cincinnati vs. Oklahoma State Holiday: California vs. Texas A&M Music City: Georgia vs. Clemson Sun: Oregon State vs. Rutgers Liberty: Houston vs. Kentucky Champs Sports: Maryland vs. Purdue Insight: Texas Tech vs. Minnesota Car Care: Wake Forest vs. Navy Alamo: Missouri vs. Iowa Chick-fil-A: Virginia Tech vs. Tennessee MPC Computers: Nevada vs. Kansas Gator: Boston College vs. Oklahoma Outback: Penn State vs. LSU Cotton: Nebraska vs. Auburn Capital One: Wisconsin vs. Arkansas Rose: Michigan vs. West Virginia Fiesta: Texas vs. Boise State Orange: Georgia Tech vs. Louisville Sugar: Florida vs. Notre Dame International: South Florida vs. Northern Illinois GMAC: Southern Miss vs. Ohio BCS: Ohio State vs. USC

    NFL Week 11

Questionable review reversal costs the 49ers a touchdown at the end of the half but they go into it up 20-0 on the Seahawks. They're almost making a believer out of me.
  12. As I mentioned last week I'm going out of town for Thanksgiving. After Tuesday night I probably won't have internet access until Saturday night. So because of that Hawk 34 will help run the contest while I'm gone. So here's how things will work this week: -All picks for this week must sent by private message to Hawk 34. Do not post your picks in the thread and do not send your picks to me. -Once both players from a match-up have sent their picks to Hawk he will post them in the thread. -There will be a total of 20 games to pick from over the next two weeks. For this first week there will be 13 games and next Sunday I will post the final 7 games to make picks for plus the tiebreaker questions. I'm skipping the Thanksgiving game but there are three Friday games to pick for. I would strongly suggest everyone try to get their picks in by Wednesday night so they don't forget over the holiday. Week 13 Deadline -Friday, November 24th, Noon EST/9:00 AM PST Week 13 Match-ups Western Atlantic Conference Championship #1 Miami (Spaceman Spiff, 8-4) vs. #2 Georgia Tech (iggymcfly, 9-3) - GAME OF THE WEEK Southeastern Seven Championship #5 South Carolina (Cuban Linx, 9-3) vs. #10 Kentucky (Danville Wrestling, 7-5) Pac-8 Championship #8 Oregon (nogoodnick, 8-4) vs. USC (Cartman, 7-5) Big MAC Championship #9 Minnesota (Vern Gagne, 7-5) vs. Kent State (JHawk, 6-6) Big 8 Championship Texas (UTBroward, 6-6) vs. Oklahoma (Vampiro69, 6-6) Week 13 Games to Make Picks For (first 13) FRIDAY Texas A&M at Texas LSU at Arkansas Oregon at Oregon State SATURDAY South Carolina at Clemson Mississippi State at Mississippi Oklahoma at Oklahoma State SMU at Rice Georgia Tech at Georgia Arizona State at Arizona East Carolina at N.C. 13. And found the new BCS Rankings...Michigan does stay at #2 as their edge in the computers gives them enough to stay ahead of USC. Link 1. Ohio State 2. Michigan .9263 3. USC .9188 4. Florida .8838 5. Notre Dame 6. Arkansas 7. West Virginia 8. Wisconsin 9. Louisville 10. LSU 11. Boise State 12. Auburn 13. Texas 14. Rutgers 15. Oklahoma 16. Georgia Tech 17. Virginia Tech 18. 14. That's last week. Harris Poll Nevermind.
  15. UCLA beats Arizona State which creates an interesting situation as there are now eight Pac-10 teams with at least six wins but they have only six guarenteed bids. The Poinsettia Bowl has an open bid and that would seem like a good fit for a Pac-10 team. The only other option after that is the Motor City Bowl which will have an open bid as the Big Ten won't be able fill it. Quite possible Wazzu or the loser of the ASU/U of A game could be left sitting at home, not that anyone should feel sorry for any 6-6 team not getting a bowl game.
  16. Honestly I have no clue how the 6-6 bids will shake out. If your 6-6 you want to root for Vern Gagne to beat JHawk as that would knock him out and obviously the Big 8 loser will be knocked out. One thing to keep in mind is like in real bowl games I will avoid matching up teams who played each other already when possible which could come into play when picking which 6-6 teams get in. Just be sure to pay attention to the championship thread.
  17. Spaceman Spiff has probably locked up a spot in the Bored Bowl for the second straight year as they have a commanding lead over the pack. There were no changes this week in ranking from 2 thru 5 but they are packed tighter than ever. There is less than one rating point seperating them. Bored Championship Rankings thru Week 12 1. Miami - Spaceman Spiff 3.1 2. Georgia Tech - iggymcfly 6.0 3. Syracuse - CanadianChris 6.55 4. Virginia - Edwin MacPhisto 6.7 5. South Carolina - Cuban Linx 6.95 6. Hawaii - Will Scarlet 9.1 7. Stanford - Bored 9.15 8. Oregon - nogoodnick 10.15 9. Minnesota - Vern Gagne 10.75 10. Kentucky - Danville Wrestling 15.45 Other Receiving Votes: Arizona State (Spicy McHaggis), Temple (Ortonsault), Texas (UTBroward), UCLA (phoenixrising) Now for the confernece championships. For the Big MAC I decided that with the unexpected five-way tie that the fairest way to break it is by overall record, thus Vern Gagne and JHawk advance. SE7: South Carolina (Cuban Linx) vs. Kentucky (Danville Wrestling) WAC: Georgia Tech (iggymcfly) vs. Miami (Spaceman Spiff) Edwin lost to both iggy and Spiff so he is the odd man out. Big MAC: Minnesota (Vern Gagne) vs. Kent State (JHawk) Pac-8: USC (Cartman) vs. Oregon (nogoodnick) nogoodnick beat phoenxrising. Big 8: Texas (UTBroward) vs. Oklahoma (Vampiro69) Vampiro beat CanadianChris. Now the updated bowl eligibility list. Locked Up a Bid Virginia Georgia Tech South Carolina UCLA Miami Syracuse Oregon Stanford Minnesota Kentucky Arizona State USC San Jose State Bowl Eligible Hawaii Texas Notre Dame Tennessee Florida LSU San Diego State Kent State Oklahoma So that's 13 out 18 bids that are locked up with 9 other teams left for 5 spots. Now three 6-6 teams (Texas, Kent State, Oklahoma) will be in conference championships. If they win they obviously get in but they will be passed over if they lose. Here's a reminder of the bids. The Big MAC and Big 8 won't be able to fill all their bids. Pepsi Blue Bored Bowl: BCS #1 vs. BCS #2 Traditional Bowl presented by the Yellow Submarine: Pac-8 #1/BCS vs. Big MAC #1/BCS TheSWF.com Dust Bowl: BCS vs. BCS Williams Games SinisTar Bowl: SE7 #2 vs. Big MAC #2 Out Magazine Bowl: WAC #2 vs. Big 8 #2 KFC PETA Bowl: Pac-8 #2 vs. Big 8 #3 Meow Mix Pussy Bowl: SE7 #3 vs. WAC #3 Ex-Lax Toilet Bowl: Big MAC #3 vs. Pac-8 #3 FireJoeMorgan.com Bowl: At-large vs. At-large
  18. I'll go over the conference championships in the BCS Rankings post. I need time to figure out the Big MAC who finish with a five-way tie for 1st. Note don't read anything into the order of the standings. 19. Woo hoo! Bears' Rose Bowl drought still going strong after 48 years.
  20. You want a bold prediction? If Cal hangs on tonight for the win, Stanford will beat them in the Big Game to cost them the Rose Bowl bid. If I'm wrong may God strike down everyone in this thread.
  21. I say just scrap the Fiesta Bowl, part II and have a traditional Rose Bowl. Wake Forest still controls their own destiny. Beat Maryland and they go to the title game, otherwise if BC beats Miami and Wake loses then BC plays Georgia Tech. Oh ya Maryland can still go if they beat Wake and BC loses.
  22. Well we got the result that would be needed to justify a rematch and that is Michigan losing closely. I hate bowl rematches so I personally would only be in favor of a rematch if USC, Florida, Rutgers, and Arkansas all lose which could certainly happen.
  23. Also of note SMU and Rice both have become bowl eligible today. They play each other next week to get an all important 7th win for both to lock up a bid. SMU of course hasn't gone to a bowl since the Death Penalthy and Rice hasn't been to one in 45 years.
  24. No one is paying attention to any other games but what the hell has gotten into Arizona? Upset Cal last week and this week they are humiliating Oregon in Eugene 37-10 which makes them bowl eligible. The Pac-10 has been impossible to figure out this year week-to-week.
  25. Miami loses again. Damn and I so wanted to see them in MPC Computers Bowl.
