MMA Comments that Don't Warrant a Thread

Wanderlei missed that block and he got knocked out by Crocop's ankle bone. It was still rather vicious.

ESPN sucks, so do thread closers

Even though it drags out way too damned long, I like Poker Superstars. High Stakes Poker is #1 in my book, because you see most of the players more relaxed. And I don;t care how oversaturated it is, I will never, ever, EVER get tired of watching assholes like Hellmuth and Matusow lose. Matusow especially, because he is the classic example of a man who cannot get out of his own way. And I agree, Jamie Gold was a major-league dick at the table.

Ben Wallace is an asshole. It doesn't matter if it's a stupid rule. When you have an employer paying you $60 million, you do what you are told. Wallace isn't an asshole, but he's an idiot for signing with the Bulls without assurances that he could keep his rituals intact. And the Bulls were idiots to not get all that out on the table up front. It's a fucking headband and an Ipod in the lockeroom! Why is this simple, trivial shit an issue that comes up during the first month of the regular season, when they had an entire off-season and pre-season to compromise on it! Because Scott Skiles is a micromanaging control freak. He was like that when he was a player on the Magic, too.

Glad to see we agree on Prince Charming... I think thats the only song from Re-Load I have on my computer.

Actually he could have matched the Bulls offer, but to pay him that much would have screwed things up royally. Maybe Ben would have left anyway, maybe not. I agree about how Ben soured on playing for Flip, but Ben has been an offensive liability since he got started, and he has never done anything to change that. Its not that hard to develop a 15- foot jumper to keep a defense honest at the very least, not to even mention his mental block when it comes to free throw shooting. But who knows why he did not do those things? He was offered a cash grab and he took it. That's the bottom line. I have loved Ben's work ethic and his dedication to playing defense and rebounding, but Dumars actually could have done more to keep him but chose to let him go. And considering the warfare going on in Chicago, in retrospect Dumars did the right thing.

I always thought Jarrett Jack would be a good point guard in the league. I am flat-out impressed by this run the Magic are on. I just hope they can maintain it. And how smart does Joe Dumars look for letting Ben go rather than hamstringing the franchise? The problem is now that there are rumors swirling around that Chauncey Billups might not be brought back at the end of his contract.

The absence of bass in Justice has always bothered me. It took Bob fucking Rock to convince Jaymz, Krk and Larz to give Jason his own sonic space. In my world, Puppets and Lightning are 1 and 1a, switching position according to my mood, followed by the Black Album... but did we not have a thread about that previously?

I'm happy to see the Pistons doing better, and Orlando is on top in their division??! I knew Dwight Howard was going to be a monster in this league, but damn......

    Video Games...

Nothing beats Royal Rumble for the SNES, though... just the fact that you could do Shawn Michael's swank back suplex out of an atomic drop was cool as hell.... Not to mention I used mark out huge for the Undertaker's tombstone. For those few who remember, Bop 'N' Wrestle for the C64 was awesome, even if it was a joystick killer. Epyx Wrestling was fun too for the simple fact that everyone had a unique finisher. That was what, 1987?

    Video Games...

Tag Team Wrestling: The original and still one of the best. its still fun to this day, though I doubt I could match my high scores I used to rack up back then. Mat Mania/Exciting Hour: Truly excellent wrestling games, and I had always thought that there should have been a third game with more characters and movesets. I always wanted to play Coco Savage and cheeseball my way to the top. WWF Superstars: Highly underrated as the precursor to Wrestlefest. Dibiase was way cheap with a lot of his moves and counters, and when you were finally able to beat him down or weaken Andre to the point where you could toss him around like a rag doll, it was an accomplishment. I remember playing the Megapowers and winning the match with Savage in style with his top rope elbow drop. Wrestlefest: Simply awesome. Beating the Road Warriors was always a major accomplishment, especially if you could do it twice and beat the game. After those I shied away from games like Slam Masters and the like, because that was more like Street Fighter with wrestling moves than a true wrestling game. I have heard all the good reviews of the WCW/nWo games for the PS1, I just might go out and buy a used copy. I loved Super Fire Pro X simply because the sheer number of kinds of wrestlers, matches and movesets you could make were just mind-boggling, not to mention some of the moves simply defied the laws of physics, which in itself was awesome. As far as the "arcadey" games of today, I still stick with HCTP. Everything that has come out since has sadly paled in comparison.

The One and Only "Casino Royale" Thread

I look at it from the aspect that they had to show WHY Bond has that emotional armor. He met a woman during a mission that was his almost mirror image and he fell in love with her, only to be betrayed by her at the end. If they are going with a "rookie" Bond, then certain things had to be established with that character. The reason why the switched to Hold Em (aside from the popularity factor; though I was a little iffy about that whole "James Bond meet Rounders" part of the movie) is because the majority of people either don't know about Baccarat or don't care about it. Its too highbrow for most of the moviegoers. Dumbing down? Maybe. Daniel Craig was downright awesome in this one. I didn't know if he could pull it off (primarily because I had never seen him before), but after seeing Layer Cake (If you haven;t seen it, do it now), I knew he could pull off James Bond without a hitch.

All right, I have a challenge.... I have been talking about the match in several threads, but I want the Faces of Fear/High Voltage match from Nitro in late 95/early 96.

I love watching Metal: A Headbanger's Journey. Fascinating shit every time. Then VH1 Classic does something weird by playing Classic Albums: Metallica, The Black Album

    Worked Angles...

Terry Funk piledriving Ric Flair through a table. Roddy Piper and Ray "The Crippler" Stevens absolutely destroying Jimmy Snuka. The best part about Savage/Steamboat was Steamboat's interview two weeks or so after the fact, talking in a rasp.

    OAO Retrogaming Thread.

I saw both games in Target a few days ago, both are 20 bucks... those, along with the Tecmo collection for the X-Box would keep me occupied in gaming nostalgia goodness.

Wrestling Challenge and Superstars were awesome. Gorilla/Heenan and Vince/Ventura were just awesome... then I remember the pure joy when I saw a WWF Superstars arcade machine for the first time in 1989.

Army of Anyone. Heard it on the radio and some background on the band... former lead singer of Filter combined with the DeLeo brothers.... good stuff.

I'll have to disagree with you on that. I think that he had a more well-rounded singing style on Cowboys than Trendkill. He had someone else doing the heavier screaming on that album like on my favorite track, 13 Steps to Nowhere. I don't think that he changed much after Vulgar Display, but he could actually *sing*, as well as scream and growl when the song called for it. Since we're using Cemetary Gates as an example, that pushes my point home. Phil sang his ass off on that one, going from one emotional point to another in the song. when you look at the lyrics, I don't think it could have been done any other way. And to imitate Halford, he would have have had his nuts in a vise to even come close. I think that he was going for a certain vibe as well as match the harmonic dive Darrell was doing. It worked, at least to me it did. When a singer can pull you into the song and make you feel what the song is portraying, he's good.

    Iron Maiden

You are correct, sir. Adrian's time away from the band was good for him, no matter what my personal feelings are. He grew as both a guitar player and a singer, and it shows in his Psycho Motel stuff as well as on Bruce's more recent solo albums and when he rejoined Maiden back in 99. Just for shits and giggles check out his first solo album, Silver and Gold. It sounds nothing like Maiden, and that impressed the hell out of me when I first heard it. As for Phil Anselmo, I have said before that it was a fucking shame that he stopped singing and kept on screaming and growling. He had a very impressive vocal range, and he just pissed it away.
