CBS says it can't vouch for Bush documents

Dan Rather isn't just an anchor. He's a pretty important decision maker in the news room with a lot of power. For years, whenever conservatives claim there's a liberal bias, they usually cite Rather and CBS as obvious examples. They have a point. -

Just for the record, there were many questionable memos that arose when Clinton's draft dodging was being probed by the press in 1992. Just saying. -
What the fuck is "Stolen Valor"?

My favorite writer-artist as a kid was John Byrne. I used to go out of my way to collect back-issues of "Fantastic Four," "X-Men," and "Alpha Flight." His work on "Superman" was magificent, in my opinion. "Avengers West Coast" became THE Avengers team during his run. "Next Men," an early 90s tale of genetically iwas ahead of its time. Flash-forward to the recent past. -"Spider-Man: Chapter One" was a forgettable revamping of the old Spidey stories from the early-60s. -"Marvel: the Lost Generation" was a good concept, but a little too far-fetched (super-hero team that spanned 20+ years, but no one in the current Marvel continuity remebers or mentions them) and had a very anti-climatic end. -His run on "X-Men: the Hidden Years" was okay, but was cancelled because Marvel wanted to relaunch X-Men under Morrison, rather than because of sales or quality (an issue that lead him to swear he'd never work for Marvel again). -"Batman and Superman: Generations" was good. "Generation 2" was okay. "Generations 3" sucked ass. -His JLA run, which was only a springboard for the new "Doom Patrol" series, was universally panned. -The new "Doom Patrol" isn't very good at all. So what happened? Is the guy out of ideas? His artwork is unchanged in 15 years...why does it look good in 1989, but look stale today? Isn't it weird that everything he's done lately has been a nostalgia project? Has Byrne lost his talent, or is he just stuck in the past?

I think "because he's not Bush" is pretty much the only reason anyone will give at this point. Personally, I like the fact that he's "one of the most liberal members of the U.S. Senate," but that's just my bias.

Why would Kerry claim his own policies would make us less safe? You meant Cheney. Do you even READ your own posts before you hit the "add reply" button? Yup. Obvious typo. Oooh, you got me! Congrats, bucko! -=Mike When said typo completely changes the meaning of the sentence, its worth correcting. Silly me, assuming you could figure it out. -=Mike I did figure it out, Brainiac. See where it says "You meant Cheney"? That was me figuring it out and correcting you.
-
Hence the phrase "God only knows what he said to the N. Vietnamese". You know, when he met them during the war. -=Mike You don't know what he said...but you know it harmed soldiers. Wow. It amazes me you can't see through your own bullshit.
-
Riiiight. Look, I'm actually going to come to your defense here. Just stop. Please. Because when you start saying things like this, when the actual historical facts prove you WRONG, it just makes you look like a moron. So stop. Please note that Mike never actually posted what Kerry supposedly said to the North Vietnamese. Therefore, its hard to argue whether Kerry said it or not. Thanks for your concern.

I wasn't serious, but it figures you'd think that'd be an okay thing to do.

Nope --- but JFK was asleep in a war zone in a sign of utter irresponsibility which got the boat destroyed. -=Mike I'm so glad you're not a history teacher. Um, you're not a history teacher, are you?
-
Riiiight. Yeah, fuck credibility. Is it okay if I challenge your patriotism? You've given me more reason to than Cleland has.

Next he's going to be telling us PT-109 was destroyed by friendly fire, or that Truman's artillery unit slaughtered a French village.

If you really want to beleive that, I guess that's your right. That doesn't make it true, though. His words caused more deaths than the one life he saved. What a hero. His...words...caused...deaths...? Riiiiiight. Yup. Men were tortured to death over what he said. God only knows what he said when he met with the N. Vietnamese. Welcome to fantasy-land. You gotta love it when right-wingers believe their own propaganda. I also think its funny you can't spell his name right. You've been adding that extra "e" over and over, BTW.
-
How?

If you really want to beleive that, I guess that's your right. That doesn't make it true, though. His words caused more deaths than the one life he saved. What a hero. His...words...caused...deaths...? Riiiiiight. "Cleeland" lost his limbs in Vietnam. I understand this, but the statement: ...is about as clear as a brick wall. I was asking you to clarify your wording. I find your improper use of the word "irresponsible" confusing. Are you saying Cleland was wounded because he was irresponsible in Vietnam? That's a pretty cheap shot. Typical. Let me make something clear. I do not beleive that Kerry's service alone qualifies him to be president. I do not beleive that Bush's service disqualifies him from being president. What I am sick of is seeing veterans having their service record criticized by people who weren't even there. This has nothing to do with my support for Kerry, as I'd do (and have done) the same for John McCain, Bob Dole, and George H.W. Bush.
-
^Really?^ I'm glad you agree with me. If you really want to beleive that, I guess that's your right. That doesn't make it true, though. This is me being very much not surprised by that. You really need to explain what you meant about Cleland, since the original statement followed no known laws of syntax or grammar. Just curious (and this isn't an attack), what is your military background? I was in the Navy, myself, but have no combat experience.
-
Considering the way Nam vets like Kerry, Cleland, and McCain have been treated by Bush...

Did ever occur to you that MAYBE she could've been making comments for MORE THAN ONE group of people. It'd be like if I walked and room and started talking to two people in the room, and then you'd claim there's no way I could be addressing everyone.
-
That's really stupid logic. Saving someone's life makes someone a hero, not the amount of time he spent in country. Beating another guy to the man does not exactly make one a hero, either. If Kerry was two minutes slower, he'd have nothing. You risk your life to save someone else's life, you're a hero. I'm sorry your so blindly partisan you can't see something that fucking simple. Was that even a real sentence? I have no idea what you're talking about.
-
Okay. She's obviously kissing the asses of the absentee voters in Australia.
-
That's really stupid logic. Saving someone's life makes someone a hero, not the amount of time he spent in country. Look up "hero" in the dictionary and see if they put a time limit on it.

Someone's looking for things to bitch about. Yeah, he once referred to his medal by the wrong name. Because, you know, Bush NEVER misspeaks. Just admit Kerry's a war hero, your guy isn't, and get over it. Its not like it matters, since people are by far and wide more interested in what the two candidates plan to do, rather than what happened 30 years ago. Bush being a pussy during Vietnam isn't hurting him any in the polls. Kerry's 1/100th of the Senate. I hardly think they're scared of him.
