  1. I'm surprised no one else has mentioned this... Senator-elect, Bush have unfriendly chat on Iraq There's a more sorid version of the story floating about teh internets where Webb later said he'd wanted to slug Bush. Jim Webb looks a little like Chris Benoit in that picture. In a side note, George Will wrote a pretty sad column attacking Webb over this incident, but for some reason spent the bulk of the article attacking Webb because of his poor semantics. And, ironically, uses a synonym for "peasant" to attack someone he is essentially accusing of class warfare. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...6112901267.html
  2. Nah, that was probably just an unintended side benefit.
  3. Are we focusing on the "M" shaped thick black line? Cuz I don't get the significance...
  4. Canadian pop star Robin Sparkles on the set of Let's Go to the Mall **Googles "Robin Sparkles Let's Go to the Mall"** Oh. My. Gawd.
  5. What the hell is that in DrVenkman's sig?
  6. Perhaps this disaster was God's way of keeping Katina and the Waves from ever getting back together. The Lord works in mysterious ways.
  7. Getting credit for winning World War II gives you all kinds of credibility and political capital to which there is no modern day equivalent, and residential debates were unheard of until 1960.
  8. To my knowledge, no one has said that about Obama's book. I have every faith Obama really believes everything he says, but speeches and boks are controlled situations. These books are mostly meaningless anyways. They tell what the candidate wants to do, but 90% of the president's time is spent dealing with unforseen situations or reacting to crises. You can't really get a feel for how he'll do with that from a book. Giving speeches is probably one of the worst ways to determine if someone can be a good president. Martin Sheen gave some really great speeches on "The West Wing," but that doesn't mean I want to elect him to anything.
  9. I have the Donner Cut, and watched it last night.
  10. Kid Rock is to music what Pam Anderson is to acting.
  11. When I was still watching wreslting, I'd often record the broadcast on a DVDRW, and then transfer the 15-30 minutes of the show I was interested in keeping onto a VHS tape. Not the best system, but I actually prefer the picture quality of a VHS in SLP/6 hour record to the picture quality of a DVDR in SLP/6 hour record. I have a cabinet full of VHS tapes which I am planning on going through and figuring out what to discard when I have the free time next summer. Thanks to affordable releases of my favorite shows on DVD, I have already eliminate dozens of VHS tapes from my collection.
  12. Rather than getting into another argument over the politics of the Katrina disaster, I'll instead mention that "When The Levee Breaks" is one of my favorite songs on Led Zeppelin IV.
  13. Yes, you're right about that. There's a difference between a book, a speech, and a debate, though. Books by politicans are often ghost written using the politicians notes, and speeches are usually written by professional writers as well. While a debate is something you can rehearse for, there is no way to prepare for every situation. It is different than an interview or Q&A session, because you must defend your own ideas, and also articulate a substantive critique of what the other person is saying. It tests your ability to communicate and persuade in a hostile environment unlike any other circumstance a voter would have a chance to witness. If Obama actually wants the job, it is his responcibility to persuade us he should get it. He will probably not get the nomination because of his inexperience. However, the act of running will set him up nicely for a run in 2012 or 2016, both in terms of the experience it will give him, but also in terms of building up name recognition for the future.
  14. http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/11/30/GOP...n.ap/index.html Basically trying to guilt women into not get abortions during the second trimester. I don't agree wth their premise that life begins at conception, but I'm not really opposed to their desire to restrict abortion during the third trimester (which is perfectly in keeping with the Roe V. Wade decision). But, as if the decision isn't hard enough, now they want to throw in misinformation just to confuse things.
  15. I think the northern abolitionist press gave Lincoln quite a bit of publicity. Despite his denials he wanted to ban all slavery, Lincoln was one of the abolitionist's rising stars. The thing about the 1850s is that slavery was the "War on Terror" of their day. Slavery was the issue that defined everything else, and the Republican Party wouldn't even exist had it not been.
  16. And your source is...? Not the link you posted. Actually the story on the link changed if you notice that the new story is posted after I posted it here. http://www.wishtv.com/Global/story.asp?S=5731068 hows that? Okay, but I'm a little skeptical of the stripper's account. Let's look at her timeline of events: -officers jump out shooting. There was no cause, no argument, no warning. I mean the story read, and yes, this might be the reporter's fault, like that is the only thing that happened.
  17. I must learn more about this "Nextwave."
  18. And your source is...? Not the link you posted.

  20. Hispanics? Women? Blacks? Farmers? The military? Take your fuckin' pick. Southerners. They also tried to become their own country, as I'm sure you recall.
  21. Sadly, running the Senate into the ground as the majority leader wasn't listed as an official reason for his decision. http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/11/29/frist.2008/index.html People back then at least had the Lincoln/Douglas debates to go by. I consider debates to be useful tools. You get a real feel for how a guy's mind works, and how he handles pressure. Even if his answers aren't the most eloquent, the qualities you show in a debate say a lot about how you'll handle the job. We all know what debates did for JFK and Reagan (the now famous "I AM PAYING FOR THIS MICROPHONE, MR. GREEN." line). I knew Clinton had the election sewn up as soon as I saw him debate Jerry Brown and Paul Tsongas (yes, I was a political nerd even in high school). By contrast, Al Gore let himself get slapped around by Dan Quayle and George W. Bush. I knew when I saw the 1996 Kerry/Weld debate that Kerry would have a real shot at becoming president some day. Then look at the 2004 debate between Cheney and Edwards.
  22. Seth was hilarious in this skit, SNL should really give him a bigger role. Maya was terrible as always. I hate Horatio Sanz. I hope Lance Armstrong gets cancer. ***1/4
  23. Death of a President tanked even worse. The negative buzz killed Bobby Negative buzz? I thought the critics were having a collective orgasm over it. Hey, I'm a fan of RFK, but was this movie even about him, or just a bunch of people talking about how they felt the night he died, with very little actual connection to the person? Because that sounds really, really dull.
  24. I never said the police did the right thing. I just wanted to remind people that this man who tragically died was not entirely innocent, and there are facts you have to overlook before you can say this was entirely the police's fault. Simple automotive mechanics. The car has a steering wheel that allows the driver to point the car in a direction other than directly forward. The steering wheel can allow the car to move forward at an angle, either left or right depending on the direction that the wheel is turned. If a steering wheel is turned counter-clockwise, the car can move at an angle to the left. If a steering wheel is turned clockwise, the car can move at an angle to the right.
  25. I already answered that. Evan Bayh is actually qualified to be president. He has both governed a large state and gotten bills passed through the Congress. John Edwards just kind of waundered into the Senate one day, made some pretty speeches, and started running for president.
