Agreed. No argument there. That's what's so dumb - he's degrading himself more than he already has. But at the same time, let's not forget that talented guys like J-Pro and Sonjay are in a backyard game. So there is SOME talent in backyard wrestling, although quite little. -

It's funny how they didn't even spell Mick Foley's name right. With all due respect, Supreme has been a pro wrestler for 9 years going on 10, so he certainly knows quite a bit, having worked with Sabu, Tanaka, Sandman, etc., but the idea of a BACKYARD WRESTLING *CONTEST* is just...weird. Madman Pondo would've been a better choice, but he doesn't live in Cali so I guess that's why they picked Supreme. But hey, who knows - maybe we'll see the next deathmatch sensation. (I'm not holding my breath, LOL.) -

BACKYARD KINGS WRESTLING CONTEST BEGINS! WINNERS WILL SEE THEIR MATCHES ON WORLDWIDE DISTRIBUTED HOME VIDEO! GRAND PRIZE WINS TRIP TO LOS ANGELES TO LOS ANGELES AND MATCH WITH XPW'S SUPREME! The search for the next big stars of backyard wrestling has begun. California based Rockssteady, Inc. has put together a contest allowing backyard wrestlers to gain some respect for what they do. "Backyard wrestling has proven itself to be a training ground for future wrestling stars," Rockssteady President, Rick Mandell, said, "From Mic Foley to Jeff Hardy, wrestling fans around the world have seen the footage. Another company, Backyard Wrestling, Inc. gave the backyard movement its first major exposure with its BWF wrestling series, but we are going to pick up where they left off." The Backyard Kings contest is open to backyarders worldwide through the website BackyardKings.com. Wrestlers are encouraged to send in their videotapes (VHS will not be returned, digital tapes like mind's will be returned if the entrant provides a padded self-addressed stamped envelope) of backyard matches from August 2003 through July 2004. The producers will select the best matches and the winners will appear on an internationally distributed home video. Wrestlers whose footage makes it to the home video will win 10 copies of both the VHS and DVD on which they appear. But, then the contest really begins. When the video is released, voting will begin on the Backyard Kings website. Fans from around the world will be able to vote for their favorite wrestler on the tape. In order to insure the votes are tabulated fairly, only one vote per IP address will be registered. The two wrestlers who receive the most votes will win great prizes, but more importantly, move on to the King of the Backyard Tournament. Once winners have been chosen from five editions of Backyard Kings, the single-elimination King of the Backyard Tournament will begin. Consisting of both singles and three-way matches, the tournament will take place across the United States. The two tournament finalists will enjoy an all-expense paid trip to Los Angeles where they will meet face-to-face on the ultimate backyard wrestling battleground created specially for the tournament final. The winner of the tournament will receive the first Backyard Kings World Championship Belt (made by the same maker of the WWF, WCW, ECW, and XPW championship belts) and get their first pro match, against XPW's Supreme, in front of a live audience in Los Angeles! The contest begins TODAY and wrestlers who want to be considered for the very first Backyard Kings release must have their footage submitted by August 31, 2004. Entries for the remaining four volumes will be accepted until December 31, 2004. All entries MUST be accompanied by forms, which are available at BackyardKings.com. Any submissions not accompanied by the entry form and required paperwork will be automatically disqualified. Do you have what it takes to prove you are a BACKYARD KING? Log on to www.BackyardKings.com today and find out!

The Story of XTREME PRO WRESTLING

Ya. I mean, a lot of this shit has to do with controversial matters and tender issues - there's some personal stuff that it talks about (obviously Messiah, but also Damien Steele's downfall and some other stuff) and I have to get the OK from some people. Really - I can't tell you how much it means people are getting into this. I really want people to enjoy this and not just have it be some rambling thing, but at the same time I have to balance other aspects. -

I understand. It's gonna be a long process. You don't know how much research and stuff is involved with this. I put in calls to two wrestlers tonight. I'll probably do the same with some others tomorrow. I'm working my ass off to balance contacting people with writing the actual thing. I'll try to get the next part out ASAP. It shouldn't be long. I wanna make sure I do this stuff right before I go and print it. -
This thread is funny. Very much so.

Unfortunately, New Jack won't be contributing, as I had hoped, mainly because he doesn't wish to talk about XPW anymore and has gone on the record about it plenty of times. However, he did issue this earth shattering statement when a contribution was initially requested (note, this is paraphrased): "Fuck that nigga ass punk Rob Black. I hope he goes ta jail an gets his dick cut off by one of ma homies an then it gets mailed ta me so I can shit on it. Not only he bounce ma checks...he still owes me munnay. If I eva see him in da street I'll run him over, then back up ova him an run that faggot nigga down again." Please keep in mind that those comments were made shortly after Jack got home from the strip club and was in a drunken stupor. Also, unfortunately, the next part won't be posted in less than a week, like I had planned. A lot of guys are being contacted and that takes up time. It'll be posted by early September, probably quite a bit earlier. Sorry. I'll start scanning some of the rare old show flyers I have and will gradually post them on the upcoming web site. -
According to the CTChampionshipWrestling.com web site (CCW is the promotion he works for), a guy by the name of Chris DeJoseph has joined WWE as a member of the production team, or something like that. Chris is the backstage interviewer of New England Pro Wrestling TV (which obviously - judging by the name - airs in selected parts of New England), which kinda confuses me why he's being hired as a production guy, but hey, that's cool. I talked to Chris briefly at an indy show a few months back and he's a nice guy. Most interestingly, he's pretty comfortable in front of the mic, which again makes me wonder why he's doing something on the production side of things, but I guess he has a hidden talent or something. Chris was being hyped as the host of a new CCW TV show that was in the works to start airing solely in Connecticut in a couple of weeks, but whatever happens with that it's good to hear that a guy from my home state is making an impact on wrestling. What's interesting is that on the last few editions of NEPW TV, promoter Joe LaChance has been hinting that one of CCW's stars was in talks with WWE, even going so far as to have a camera film him going into the Hartford Civic Center a few weeks ago at Vengeance in order to discuss some "business with Mr. McMahon." So, I guess Chris was the mystery guy being referred to. CCW's Jeff "The Hungryman" Harris had a one-night gig as Spike Dudley's manager on a WWE house show in Bridgeport, CT about a month ago. Chris doesn't have an official site, but Jeff does - TheHungryman.com. So, ya - just figured I'd pass this along.

Now that I think about it, maybe just the NWA title. That's the whole shebang, man. Once you've got that, you've done it in this business.

Part 2 - coming in less than a week. I'm still awaiting word on the status of the big name I've been talking about. Also, the XPW: 5 Years Later web site will be up in a couple weeks, by the end of the month. -

I found this on another message board. It was posted early today. No source given, but this is the article: 600-Pound Woman Dies After Being Surgically Removed From Couch STUART, Fla. -- A dramatic rescue ended tragically in Stuart, Florida, a rescue so difficult firefighters say they have never seen anything like it. It happened late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning at the home of a 600-pound woman who was having trouble breathing. Rescuers went in not knowing how difficult it would be to get her out. 40-year-old Gail Grinds was literally stuck to her couch and had to be removed surgically at the hospital. Authorities estimate she had been on the couch anywhere from two to five years. Martin County Fire amd Rescue crews faced what seemed to be an impossible mission. Everyone going inside had to wear protective gear. The stench was so powerful they had to blast in fresh air. They tried to cut out the front door, but at four-and-a-half feet wide, it wouldn't work. They had to cut plywood since a normal stretcher wouldn't do. An ambulance was too small, so they brought in a trailer to get her out. While rescue crews came up with a back-door rescue plan, detectives secured what had become a crime scene, questioning family members about how it got so bad. Using planks, they loaded the woman on to the trailer, still attached to the couch. Removing her would be too painful, since her body is grafted to the fabric. After years of staying put, her skin has literally become one with the sofa and it must be surgically removed. Detectives are investigating whether they have a case of neglect, or if it is simply a very sad story. Grinds was taken to the Martin Memorial hospital where doctors removed her from the couch, but she died in spite of all the attempts to save her life.

Well, he signed with WWE, so it definitely qualifies as "WWE News." If it wasn't, the other news sites wouldn't be posting it.

Of course, I love if I see top names like Chris Daniels, AJ Styles, Low Ki, Homicide, etc. listed on the card, and that'll make me more likely to buy it. However, I also look at the match combinations. I like the intriguing matches that haven't been done before. For example, I want to get Politically Incorrect Wrestling's debut show because it has Homicide & B-Boy vs. the tag team sensation All Money Is Legal. CZW isn't going to give you that because AMIL are on the low card and Homicide and B-Boy don't team there, so PIW is really the only place you can get that match. This upcoming IWA-MS card has Danielson vs. Hero I believe. That draws me NOT ONLY because it's two of the best wrestlers in the world, but also since they've never wrestled before. USA Pro especially does this well. They bring in top guys like Raven, Al Snow, and Sabu and mix them up willingly with top indy guys. You don't really find that as much in TNA. And in USA Pro, the top indy guys mix with the up-and-coming indy guys, so you can get unqiue combos ranging from Sabu vs. Homicide to Louie Ramos vs. Grim Reefer to Perry Saturn vs. Homicide to Chris Candido vs. Dan Maff. USA Pro gives me that. IWA-MS gives me that. ROH gives me that to a degree. CZW gives me that, to a slightly lesser degree than ROH. XPW used to give me that (i.e. Hamrick & Smothers vs. Shark Boy & Angel, MMW vs. Youthanazia, etc.). IWC also does it. Where else than IWC (besides USA Pro, I mean) can you see combos like Tracy Smothers vs. Chris Candido vs. CM Punk and Chris Sabin vs. Joe E. Legend vs. Jimmy Jacobs? You can't see shit like that in WWE. The brand split and also their strict card status separations (main event, midcard, lowercard) make it rare for them to book what I really wanna see - Benoit vs. Noble, La Resistance vs. WGTT, Hurricane vs. Eddie G., London vs. Jericho, Haas vs. Benoit, Cena vs. Matt Hardy, etc. On the indies, you get to see the top guys wrestling the small guys in unique combinations. Did anyone expect XPW's Messiah vs. Sabu feud to be as successful as it was? That's one weird combo right there, but it worked. As you can tell by my Raven vs. Sabu column in the General Wrestling forum, I'm drawn to matches that have a sense of intrigue behind them. I'll add PWG to the list because they do some weird combos, as evidenced by the Cash & Tango tag tournament. Messiah & Chris Daniels vs. Punk & Hero? Excalibur & Jonny Storm teaming together? MLW did it big time - Chris Daniels vs. Sabu, Teddy Hart vs. Jerry Lynn, London vs. Lynn, Hero vs. Collyer, etc. Who'd have thunk it? The independent circuit...that's who. If I want a card with all top wrestlers, I turn to ROH because they have an all around teriffic roster. But I also like to see matches other than Low Ki vs. Chris Daniels and Michael Shane vs. Paul London, so if an indy tape has an intriguing combo of guys, then that's gonna peak my interest. Gernerally, that's what I look for in a tape. Along with Becky Bayless. If Becky's on it, I buy it.

I enjoy their product for the most part, but I know for a fact CZW has been losing money like mad over the past year and a half, and that comes straight from someone in CZW who deals with their finances. And it's no secret IWA-MS is always losing money. They were expecting to have their last show in December 2003, but they started pulling in a bit more in revenue and were able to pull through. Since both companies go with a very professional dealer like SMV, I'm sure that helps tape sales because they get their tapes out ASAP after a show occurs.

Honestly, I was once like this, where'd I shill my work on boards and cut the lines of relevence really closely, so I can KINDA symphathize with him to a degree. I don't see the problem if he were to post the parts of the interview about WWE, because it IS about what this guy who is now in WWE. But he just seems sorta self-centered and making two threads about this same Shawn Daivari - both within minutes of one another - is a dumb idea, but I think you guys are too harsh. Just keep it to one thread next time, Dougie. He signed with WWE. Great. He's giving his expectations going in. Great. Just keep it simple. 90% of the people in this forum have no idea who or what Arik Cannon is. They think it's some kind of missile factory Canada is using to build weapons they're gonna attack the US with.
