But if you don't think Ripken or Gwynn are Hall of Famers, then who is? Those people should be taken out back and shot I can't wait to see the rationale of the guy who decides not to vote for Rickey Henderson in two years.
-
Some baseball writers aren't even qualified to vote on the pregame spread in the press box.
-
Could be, but Ottawa never seems to play well against Boston for some reason. Well, for forty minutes this was true. A five-goal third made things better, though.
-
Actually it will only be his 9th year on the ballot. Dave Concepcion will be the only player in his 15th and final year. That's right, I neglected to factor in the five-year waiting period. I knew 13 seemed way too high.

Thirteenth. He retired in 1994. From the Hall of Hame site: That's probably not a comprehensive list. Here's a list I put together of who's eligible next year, again not everyone will necessarily be on the ballot. Brady Anderson Delino DeShields Shawon Dunston Darrin Fletcher Travis Fryman David Justice Chuck Knoblauch Darren Lewis Tim Raines Lee Stevens John Valentin Randy Velarde Andy Benes Chuck Finley Mike Morgan Robb Nen Jose Rijo Todd Sottlemyre Greg Swindell I wouldn't be at all surprised if no one on this list ever makes the HOF.
-
I'd say USC over Michigan. Pete Carroll's a genius, you know.
-
I would add Roberto Alomar, Vlad Guerrero, Craig Biggio and Jeff Bagwell.
-
Grace was a HOF interview, I'll give him that.
-
I thought it was '03 Oklahoma that was supposed to be the greatest ever.
-
Definitely not. If he put up his numbers at 2B or SS, maybe. But not at first base.
-
I'd love to see it, but if Andre Dawson's not getting in, Raines won't get in.
-
Looking at the HOF Monitor list at baseball-reference.com, the only person who's a lock in the next few years is Rickey Henderson in 2009.

Incidentally, I'm stoked about Gossage probably getting in next year. He should have been in before Sutter.

Thanks for running this, Bored. It's been a blast. Hope it continues.

I'll agree with that. Hell, Jim DeShaies got one vote, give Brosius one.
-
But at least they get a shot. How demoralizing must it be for a great team in a shitty conference to KNOW that you have ZERO chance of making it to the championship game? George Mason at least came within one victory of doing just that. And for anyone who says "schedule better teams," no good team is going to schedule a Boise State. It won't happen. It's the same mentality that existed in basketball up until a few years ago, where teams don't want to risk a loss to a mid-major. Congrats to Florida for their "national championship."
-
Because Tony Fernandez is better than Scott Brosius in pretty much every way imaginable?

More games I've attended: http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/B06040MON1987.htm Montreal 8, San Diego 5. Saw this one on a class trip to Montreal. http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/B07110TOR1987.htm Kansas City 2, Toronto 1. My only game at Exhibition Stadium. A pitcher's duel between Jimmy Key and Bret Saberhagen, both of whom pitched complete games. http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/B04270BOS1990.htm Boston 7, Oakland 6. My only trip to Fenway Park, on a band trip to Boston. The Sox scored 3 in the ninth to win it. We had the worst seats in the place, high up in the lower level along the right field line. We couldn't see the scoreboard, and could barely see the field at times. http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/B09140TOR1991.htm Toronto 6, Oakland 0. My first game at the SkyDome. http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/B05010NYA1992.htm New York 5, Minnesota 3. My only trip to Yankee Stadium, also on a band trip. Yankees scored 3 in the eighth off Kevin Tapani (left in too long) for the win. Steve Farr got the save. http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/B10050CHA1993.htm http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/B10210PHI1993.htm These don't really count, but I saw Game 1 of the 1993 ALCS and Game 5 of the 1993 World Series on the Jumbotron at SkyDome for free. http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/B04260TOR1995.htm Toronto 13, Oakland 1. Opening Day 1995. I finally got to see Dave Stewart for the first time since the World Series win in 1993, and he goes and gives up 9 runs on 5 hits, 3 walks, an error and a wild pitch in 1 1/3 innings. http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/B08060MON1999.htm San Diego 12, Montreal 10. Tony Gwynn's 3000th hit. http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/B05160MON2000.htm Montreal 2, Arizona 0. The Vazquez-Big Unit pitching duel. http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/B04060MON2001.htm Montreal 10, New York 6. Opening Day 2001. The Big O was packed, and for the first (and only) time, I had to settle for a seat in the outfield. The returning Tim Raines got a ridiculously loud ovation when he was introduced before the game, and even louder when he walked and scored in the second. http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/B07060TOR2001.htm Montreal 10, Toronto 7. Saw this one at SkyDome. This was the only Jays-Expos game I was ever able to attend. 'Spos came back with six runs off the Toronto bullpen in the final three innings to win it. http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/B08220TOR2006.htm Toronto 4, Oakland 3 (yeah, Oakland again -- go figure). This was the night after John Gibbons challenged Ted Lilly to a fight. The section beside mine got a pretty good "Fight! Fight! Fight!" chant going when Gibbons went out to get Burnett in the seventh. I've seen four or five other Jays and Expos games that I can't recall right now.

I thought this was the quad tear from tonight. Bastard.
-
I went to the Senators game this afternoon, a 6-1 squash of Philadelphia. The Flyers really have to be seen in person to fully appreciate how wretchedly bad they truly are. Nittymaki gave up 6 goals and really didn't play all that badly.
-
That's probably it. TSN showed the Fiesta Bowl again Saturday as an Instant Classic. Unbelievable.
