As if the UK search couldn't get any worse cabbage, Andy Katz is reporting that Rick Barnes has withdrawn his name from consideration for the UK job. With him knocked out I dunno who is on the top of the damn list now.

I think your right about Camby but I think the NCAA investigation was into other practices as well (my mind escapes me over what they were investigating since it was a decade or so ago). While they never blamed Calipari for anything when you have the NCAA investigating your program for ANYTHING red flags go up in certain places and some people think your guilty of stuff you actually might be innocent of. I think Calipari's record speaks for itself and I'd love to have him coach UK but I have a feeling that he's not going to be jumping ship considering the team he has in place for next year. Sucks for K-State that Bob Huggins is bolting so soon. I knew he was the favorite to take the job and that he might lean towards it since he played there but am a bit shocked that he abandoned a program that he had poised with top tier recruiting talent for next season and had a team nucleus that some thought could compete for the Big 12 title and made a deep NCAA run. It'll be interesting to see if his recruits try to follow him to WVU or stick it out at K-State. I'd assume the former over the latter but they might stay due to the trouble of getting out of a written commitment and sitting out a year due to transfer rules.

I agree with making the push for Calipari but didn't he recent sign an extension at Memphis after his team was eliminated from the tournament? Also, Calipari did have that sketchy history at UMass where there was an NCAA investigation after he left for the New Jersey Nets. UK may not want that for fear of having the NCAA breathing down its neck again but I really like the way Calipari builds his teams. I think he's done all he can at Memphis because I just don't see them ever being a title contender due to playing in lame Conference USA. Just seems like they've hit a wall in those Elite Eight games against teams that have been better tested during the regular season. While I'm not big on Barnes I'd give him a shot (as I would any coach we hire). UK message boards now have people saying we should hire Travis Ford but he's unproven as a recruiter and upper tier coach to me at the moment. It is funny though to see delusional fans who were screaming for us to get Billy D and singing his praises now calling him "Billy Dickhead." A lot of them now seem to have given up on the next 3-4 years of UK basketball which is extreme but those are the fans that give the UK faithful a bad name anyway. Why is Bob Huggins not on the short list? I mean he doesn't graduate his players but the man can coach and basically had a national title stolen from him when Kenyon Martin broke his damn leg many years ago. Rumor has it that he's on the market and is looking at the West Virginia job and I know we have more to offer than that. However, there is a lot of bad blood between UK and Cincinnati so that might explain why he's not on the short list. Mitch Barnhardt just needs to be careful about this coaching search because if he picks wrong the UK faithful will be calling for his head next, football program success be damned.

While I was hoping Donovan would come to UK I'm not shocked he decided to stay. After all, he doesn't owe Kentucky anything and Florida is the program that he built up. I guess Rick Barnes is next in line to get the call according to reports but I REALLY question his coaching ability. Granted, he can get good recruits and talented players but his X's and O's aren't up there with the best coaches in the game. I DEFINITELY agree with cabbage that Tom Crean is overrated by the Kentucky faithful and the only thing we'd get out of picking him up would be to further inflame the game with Louisville since they hate that man. I am not too favorable towards any of the coaches on the shortlist at the moment. I'd have Izzo and Mark Few at the top of my list and I think Izzo won't leave MSU because there isn't a reason why and for the other reasons cabbage discussed. I was favorable to Calipari but he's staying with Memphis. Basically I think UK has really messed itself up over this Donovan deal and I shudder to think what next season is going to be like. Guess I'll be rooting for Louisville next March because they'll be going farther in the tourney than UK.

Legendary Grambling coach Eddie Robinson has died

A true coaching legend and a class act. RIP Eddie. -
The Mets-Cards game was the biggest ass kicking I've seen in a baseball game in a long time. Maine was just unstoppable tonight and gave the Mets another solid pitching performance in this series. The Cardinals only had a man in scoring position TWICE the entire game and one of those times was on Duncan's double in the ninth inning when the game didn't matter anymore. If I am a Cardinals fan I've got to be a little concerned after this series. You have a team that can't hit and score runs, can't play defense in the outfield, and whose bullpen is getting picked apart when they come into games. Tony LaRussa looked like he wanted to die around the eighth inning of tonight's game. I know there's 159 games to go for both of these teams but I really like what I'm seeing out of the Mets so far as they look like a team that is energized and is playing with a ton of emotion out there and am not too impressed by the Cardinals.

http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/meast/03/28/...lors/index.html Coupled with reports from Russian intelligence that the U.S. is building up its military presence along the Iranian border this situation looks like it could easily spiral out of control.

The Biggest Disgrace of the 21st Century
Danville_Wrestling replied to Big Ol' Smitty's topic in Current Events
Darfur has just simply become trendy like global warming. Lots of people love to have rallies and talk about it but nothing is really getting done. -
Basically sums up my thoughts on the issue. UK has made this a Donovan-centric search and if they don't get him then who do they go after? I dread having Rick Barnes come to UK as I don't think he's a good fit. Tom Izzo?

Well now I guess we get the even more heightened speculation about whether Donovan is leaving FL or not and headed to Lexington. Congrats to the Gators and I'm glad they won since their victory put me over the top and had me vault from third place to first in my bracket pool. First time I've ever won one of those and it's pretty exciting. I really don't dig the Luther V. version of One Shining Moment.

Good 5-1 win by the Reds today as Harang threw some good stuff and Adam Dunn provided three of the runs off of his two HR's in his first two at bats. Bottom of the lineup, though, gave us absolutley nothing from Hatteberg on down except for Gonzalez who went 1-for-2 with 1 RBI. Griffey looks like he needs to get more comfortable playing right field but Freel did a good job fielding with a fantastic catch in the middle of the game. Cubs just couldn't get any offense going with their only run occuring on a bad throw toward third base that went into the stands and thereby scoring on an error. Now, if the Reds can repeat this another 90 times this year we'll be going to the playoffs...
-
Adam Dunn with HR #2 on the day and the Reds lead it 3-0 in the bottom of the third. Could've been much worse as well as Freel got greedy on a missed throw to first and was thrown out when trying to advance to second.

Thanks Devo. I dunno why I didn't think of turning to WGN. I wish I got the FSN Ohio network but my college dorm doesn't offer it in the package. I just saw on the bottom of the ESPN ticker that the Tribune company will be selling the Cubs for over $8 billion at the end of this season to a real estate investor. Edit: Why is Adam Dunn batting in the #2 slot? Edit #2: Well since he just hit a 2 run homer on a 1-2 pitch I guess that answers that question.

Is anyone else getting a blank picture for the Cubs-Reds game on ESPN2 or am I being blacked out?

Gotta give my hat off to the good defense the Mets played tonight to shut down any momentum the Cardinals had. This was especially prevalent in the eighth when the Cards had the bases loaded with one out and Heilman was able to induce a ground ball fielded excellently by Valentin and getting a 4-6-3 double play. Also, I think the Mets did a fantastic job wearing down Carpenter by getting his pitch count up early as just four innings in he had 74 pitches versus 43 for Glavine. Of course this was helped by the Mets forcing Carpenter to throw 27 pitches in that fourth inning that decided the game where the Mets scored three runs and got four hits. The funny thing for St. Louis is that this game could've been much worse on the scoreboard early on as the Mets stranded six runners in the first five innings and three of those runners were in scoring position when the final out of the inning was made. I was also surprised at how poorly the Cards moved runners tonight with Carpenter messing up the squeeze play, Eckstein getting gunned down at home, and then having the bases loaded twice and not being able to convert. Good eyes + good D = opening night win for the Mets.

Maple Leafs convert a power play due to a Jagr penalty 1:48 into the 1st period and take an early 1-0 lead.

Gotta love opening day in baseball where I can wish that my Reds were actually going to be a competitive team this year.

I think the way to go is an electric/gas hybrid type car. The main problem with electric cars as a poster mentioned above was the size of the battery because the basic battery would be like what was in your cell phone but much larger which would seriously weigh the front end of the car down. However, I remember reading several years ago that such a hybrid car would severely cut down on emissions since most people commute short distances every day and that would allow people to use the battery more than emit gas fumes.

I agree with this but then again, I'm a big Norman fan. I think Faldo shooting a 67 really applied a lot of pressure to Norman and made the situation a lot worse for him as he started to slump in the round. This is the most painful memory for me as a golf fan because I tuned in anticipating Norman to put on the green jacket to a massive ovation but got one of the worst golfing collapses instead. I still can't believe Paul Lawrie has a major championship but that's the British Open for you. I remember rooting against Van de Velde because I wanted Justin Leonard to win and totally forgot that Lawrie was tied with him in the clubhouse after shooting a decent final round when he started ten shots back. I'm glad the Open championship is headed back to Carnoustie because although tons of people complained about the course setup I like courses where par is hard to come by, especially if its a major championship. After all, these guys are pros so they should be able to suck it up and handle it. However, this year I imagine the wind might not be as big of an issue as 1999 when huge gusts where deflecting shots all over the place away from tight fairways and caused the high scores.

I think 2K is MUCH better. I think the gameplay is more fluid and natural and its presentation and depth in legacy mode combined having a Selection Show that closely mimicks the real one for the tournament is heads and tails above EA. Also, it's pretty cool how in legacy mode there are invitational tournaments you can enter and win to try to boost your team's resume for the tournament. I'm thinking of buying NBA 2K7 as well but can you draft your college players into the pro game?
-
Anyone know where I can find some sliders for College Hoops 2k7?
-
Well Western Kentucky won't be making the tournament after losing to Arkansas State tonight in the Sun Belt semi-finals. They might get a berth in the NIT again but tough loss considering we were the favorite to win the tourney after Southern Alabama lost to Middle Tennessee.
-
That 64 would be a bit difficult to pull off I believe since it would have to tie the course record set by Norman in 1996, right? I always get pissed at Augusta time anyway since Norman is my favorite golfer and he always had the worst luck at the Masters. I really thought he was going to win in 1999 (after the collapse in 1996) when he made eagle on 13 but then Olazabal rolled in a twenty footer or so for birdie and tied him for the lead and I knew then that it was over.

The only good thing about being a UK fan right now is that Florida is on the opposite side of the bracket in the SEC tournament. However, we have to play Alabama in round one and then matchup against a determined Mississippi State team in the quarter-finals. However, I still hold out hope that we can at least make a run to the conference title game.
