Joe Lieberman voted out of party, running as an Independent
Danville_Wrestling replied to spman's topic in Current Events
Without him Bill Clinton would never have rallied to be re-elected in Arkansas after he got booted out after his first term and never would have been president. I don't know how that doesn't give him some credence to talk about the political climate especially since his predictions in the last presidential cycle proved pretty well founded about Howard Dean peaking too early, etc. What pisses me off about this race as well is that if the MoveOn.Org people would spend half of the damn time they spent against Lieberman in CT fighting incumbent Republicans elsewhere they might actually have a chance help the Democrats retake control of Congress. Instead, they are messing around in a blue state purging one of their own from the ranks. Big strategic blunder in my opinion. Also, if Lieberman loses do you think he might get a cabinet post from Bush? I thought there was talk last year or so of him becoming the new Defense Secretary. With Rumsfeld on the outs he might fill that job....you never know. Morris is extremely savvy. He was like the Karl Rove of the Democractic party. Once the Dems moved power to the lunatic fringe, cough..Howard Dean...cough Well, its almost hard for the GOP to lose when the Dems have no ideas of their own, and have no candidates that can win. Oh yea, I also forgot that it was Morris's idea of "triangulation" that Clinton used to pound Bob Dole's ass in 1996 whereby Clinton adopted centrist positions between the extremes of the right and the left and always appeared to be the compromising figure and voice of reason. This stance ended up giving us welfare reform in 1996 which really hurt Dole. What really hurts Morris today is that he's a BIG anti-Hillary person so he appears like a partisan hack. However, I'd recommend his book "Rewriting History" to anyone regardless because of all the Clinton stories good and bad from Arkansas to the White House (including one where Bill tackled him one time). All I'd say is that if I were running a political campaign I'd be giving Dick Morris a call to help manage it. -

Yea, the momentum meter is a definite bitch in the game. Sucks that you can't turn it off either and that you can't turn off the "third person camera" for kick returns. I don't mind the new kicking adjustment with the analog stick, though. Makes it more fun, especially when your playing in a hostile road game and the controller just shakes out of your hands like crazy. My UK team got to 2-6 with a win against Mississippi State 38-7 but then lost a heartbreaker to #9 LSU when I couldn't get any offense going in the second half and lost 17-10. Had a big game at home against Georgia because another loss doomed any chance of bowl bid on the off chance I'd get invited at 6-6. I led 6-3 at the half which was an accomplishment in itself since I suspended my star QB for three games for writing forged doctors excuses to his professors, suspended by star ROLB for skipping practice, and suspended my star WR for undisclosed NCAA violations. I was able to stand firm at the beginning of the third quarter but suddenly Georgia's star RB who had been dormant all game decided to get going and scored on a 60 yard touchdown run. Then, when they get the ball back a minute and a half later after I got a field goal the RB takes it to the house again on a toss play when somehow all my guys get tied up with the GA defenders. With less than three minutes to go in the fourth quarter I trail 17-9 and its 3rd & 2. Georgia looks to be trying to run out the clock so I call goaline for the third time. However, they run playaction and heave a long bomb to the end zone and scores as Kirk basically laments that the game is over since its 24-9. Corso refuses to give up on me and I get a miracle Hail Mary with 1:03 left to a terrible TE and kick the extra point to trail 24-16. Then, I go for the onside and somehow manage to recover and the crowd suddenly wakes up again. I heave another long bomb to my WR on the left side and he gets pushed out of bounds at the 14 BUT he does some stupid fucking celebration and that gets me a damn unsportsmanlike conduct call to send me back 15 yards to the 29. With a mere 26 seconds left on 3rd & 10 I heave a bomb to the endzone where I have THREE receivers against ONE defender but what happens? The GA defender PICKS THE BALL OFF and ends the game. I was so pissed. It was a great game but I was mad I lost since I really needed that game to improve my standing with the university who is (surprise, surprise) pissed at my performance. Oh well, I've got Vandy, WKU, and Tennessee left and I can win at least 2 out of those 3 games. As far as how the other teams are doing in my dynasty, #2 Notre Dame got beat by Navy (?!?!?!) so they are out of the chase for the title. #1 is Ohio State and #2 is Oklahoma which makes me laugh because it seems that regardless of which NCAA game I play (2002, 2003, or 2004) Oklahoma is ALWAYS in the title game or at least in a BCS game. I remember in 2004 that it'd be Miami-Oklahoma every year almost.

Joe Lieberman voted out of party, running as an Independent

Disclaimer: I'm a bit biased because I met Lieberman when the 2000 VP debate was at Centre College in my hometown. He's a nice guy and while I disagree with him on a lot of stuff I feel really bad for what happened to him yesterday. I already commented on this race over in the election 2008 section so I won't go about repeating a lot of what I said here. However, this is DEFINITELY a two man race because the GOP candidate Schlesinger is only polling about 8-13% and had a ton of problems relating to a gambling debt. To suggest that the GOP has a chance in hell of winning this seat is crazy. Dick Morris totally shitted all over Lamont today on the talk radio circuit. He said that Lamont was a client of his about a decade ago when he was running for the state senate in CT and the guy is a total flake and Lieberman will kick the crap out of him in a general election. He offered a decent rationale too: we all know now that Ned Lamont is against the war in Iraq BUT how does he feel about: -domestic survelliance -the Patriot Act -the war in Afghanistan -illegal immigration -numerous social issues Morris said these issues will define the race moreso now than the anti-war stance taken over by Lamont. Also, Lamont is basically a creature of the liberal blogs right now BECAUSE without them this race would not have turned out the way it did. I'm not saying that he did this by choice but face it without them we wouldn't even know who Ned Lamont is. What pisses me off in this case is why did MoveOn have to target Lieberman and not Hillary Clinton who also voted for the war? This "Clinton gets a free pass" thing really ticks me off. I'll concede that Lamont's position on the war is supported by a majority of the public but I find a bit of hypocrisy in the Moveon.Org argument: we rushed into Iraq without a plan for the post-war country, right? So why in the hell should we leave the country being just as careless as we were when we rushed in? I agree that Iraq is terrible and we should find a way to go because it seems the people don't appreciate or presence or want us there. However, just because MoveOn.org's position on the war is supported by the public doesn't mean its other social/political agendas relate to the public too. Just keep that in mind. I think it would be really funny if Lieberman won this race because how would his Democratic "friends" talk to him on Capitol Hill in the next session? Are Hillary, Chuck Schumer, Ted Kennedy, etc. going to come up and say "I was rooting for you all along Joe but you know I had to support that Lamont guy for the good of the party blah, blah, blah." I guess the old saying is right: when you get into a tight spot you really find out who your true friends are. Also, for anyone to suggest here or somewhere else that the Lamont camp is not scared of Lieberman in a general election is insane. In fact, the Lamont camp is making a PR push to force Lieberman out of the race to "respect the opinion of the Democratic majority." However, Lieberman isn't giving this one up without a fight (and rightfully so since he lost 52-48) and I hope he pounds Lamont, wins the seat, and tells all of his Democratic colleagues and the MoveOn.org crowd to kiss his ass. -
I actually liked the gauntlet match for what it was. Would I have liked it to go longer? Sure, but with time constraints it had to be fast. I like PJ Dalton and don't know why they job him out. He's got that catchy theme music after all. I thought the match put over not only Evans a little bit since he was able to power out of Crowbar but also Shawn Spears since he pushed Albright to the limit moreso than anyone else in the match. I think Albright probably shouldn't have started at #1 and Evans should have plowed through more people first but it was what it was. It was also pretty cool to see Mike Cruel run in and blast Albright with a chair out of desperation to get a cheap elimination. I thought the tag title match was very well executed. It had a clean finish which put over Deuce & Domino as strong and had some good psychology as Deuce & Domino systematically wore down Punk and Skyfire to the point that they could not go anymore. THIS is a prototype for how to attempt to put a team over because it kept Punk/Skyfire strong as they kicked out of a ton of moves near the end until Punk eventually succombed at the end. What did everyone think about Jacob Duncan? I thought it was a well booked squash match and I think I'm going to enjoy this guy if they book him correctly. Maybe they should have him yell "momma" or something before his finishing move. Either way, pairing him with a really small guy like Lightfoot right out of the gate was a very smart move because it made Duncan look badass by comparison. I'd also rather see Albright as OVW Champ or even Evans. I just don't see Skyfire as champion material because (and I hate to say this) he's too small. I see him as a Johnny B. Badd type character that does cool moves but is only credible in the midcard with that TV championship belt. I see him as the next champ and I know he's over in OVW which works for him but for some reason I can't see him believably beating guys like Evans or Duncan in future title programs.

Middle East Tensions Exploding
Danville_Wrestling replied to Danville_Wrestling's topic in Current Events
Looks like France is buckling to pressure from the Arab League to withdraw demands for sending a multilateral force with some teeth into Southern Lebanon. I swear the French are total pansies these days. They are beholden to their crazy labor unions at home who block tons of needed economic reform and now they are becoming beholden to their Muslim population who caused riots last year because of the economic distress in the country. All of their problems just feed themselves and while Sarkozy sounds tough and I hope he wins in 2007 he will probably end up being another paralyzed technocrat like Chirac ended up being after 1995. It never ceases to amaze me how incompetent the UN always is in handling these situations. Like, why in the hell is this organization still around? However, this debacle will pale in comparison to when Iran gives its response on August 22nd which will probably reject the incentives package of the EU-3 and will not end up getting Chapter 7 sanctions b/c of Russian and Chinese oil interests EVEN THOUGH sanctions would probably moderate the regime since youth unemployment is at around 25% there and would climb with international pressure. So basically if the French cave that means no international force that would mean anything which means Israel will stay in S-Lebanon which we know is a losing situation for them and they know it too. Looks like another victory for the terrorists here. Thank you UN and incompetent diplomats everywhere for all you've done for the world. -
Looks like Joe lost this one with 81% of polls reporting and he's down 52-48. However, that's not a big victory for Lamont and probably will not discourage Lieberman from participating in the general election as an independent. If the GOP wanted to turn this general election race into a proxy war they could. The GOP candidate is only polling around 8% so if they withdrew their candidate and tacitly through their support behind Lieberman they could try to embarass the Democrats in this race since the party machinery will probably be geared behind Lamont right now. Fat chance of this happening but its an idea. The wild card in the general election will be GOP voters and especially independent voters. While independents are very anti-war and anti-Bush in CT Lieberman might be able to win them over if he flip flops but who knows. Also, I don't see the DNC pouring tons of money into this race since they are focused on winning in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Minnesota, Washington, Tennessee, and other key races. They'll probably see this as a win-win since Lamont will represent the party if he wins and Lieberman will vote with them anyway (or at least that good ol' 90% of the time) if he ends up winning so that isn't going to really aid the Lamont cause. I'm still skeptical Lamont will win this seat when all is said and done. The one good thing for me tonight, though, is that it looks like Cynthia McKinney is going down in GA to Hank Johnson. Goodbye and good riddance say I.

Please tell me Johnson actually stands a chance of winning. I think at the last poll before today he was winning by four points but that was within the margin of error.

-I remember when I FINALLY figured out how to do the finishers on the WWF Royal Rumble SNES game after I had played it for years and always wondered how to do them. I remember I was Razor Ramon fighting Ted DiBiase and when DiBiase's energy was low I pressed the R button to give him a backbreaker and suddenly did the Razor's Edge. At first I wasn't sure what buttons I pressed so I just shrugged it off and kept doing stuff until I tried to give him another backbreaker a few moments later and it worked again. After that I had loads of fun doing the finishers except that it took me another few months to figure out how in the hell to do Tatanka's. -I also marked out on the WWF Raw game for SNES when I used Bret Hart against the Undertaker and applied the Sharpshooter at the end of the match and the referee called for the bell for a submission. I thought all of that was really cool at the time. -I remember renting Madden 1995 and it had all of the records in there and I'd always try to break every one of them whether by cheating or just playing. Loads of fun there. -Also had lots of fun playing Saturday Night Slammasters. I bought that game for 2-3 bucks a couple years ago and its still lots of fun to plug in and play when I'm bored. -Lots of great memories from the Goldenye N64 game, especially kick ass multiplayer action.

Thanks for the help, I'll see if I can get it to work just as well for me. I'm so used to my 2004 NCAA game that I am having trouble transitioning into this one and using all of the different controls for players and such. I gave Florida a decent run for their money but lost 30-20. I scored the first touchdown by marching all the way down the field and then stopped FL on their first possession but everything went to hell in the first half after that. I had a receiver run the wrong route because of the noise and my O-Line got obliterated so that pass got picked off and FL used the field position for a score. Next possession I was able to use my run game to get to the 50 and then had another pass picked off and FL used that field position to score. Got the ball back on my own 21 after a kickoff and on the first damn play my RB fumbles and FL uses that to kick a field goal. At this point Nessler and the gang are just feeling sorry for me and it gets worse when one of my players acts like a dumbass and gets a 15 yard facemask penalty when FL gets the ball back with 2 seconds left in the first half so FL kicks that one in from the 32. Second half went better as I completed some big passes and got some long runs but it was too little too late and I lost. I could have beaten Central Michigan but I had a really bad second half and had a lot of trouble in the red zone with turnovers (almost a repeat of the FL game). So I lost that one 30-22 and am now 1-4 on the season. Not too good in UK country. As far as passing defense goes its REALLY annoying when the CPU throws a bomb over my DBs and such when I've got a good zone coverage and the defender just WATCHES as the CPU catches the ball an inch or two away. Like they don't try to hit them or dive at the ball or swat it away or anything. Just really irritating sometimes.

Well usually I'm running the Cover 2, Cover 3, or Cover 4 coverages out of the 3-4 package mixed in with an occassional Nickel package. I think what does hurt me as you said is that momentum meter b/c in the game against Louisville they were killing me on the air and on the ground and marched 80 yards down the field to score on the games opening drive thereby filling the momentum meter and pretty much sealing my fate. I don't get as irritated as some people about losing because it is just a video game and all and its not like UK is as good in the first season as a USC or Miami or Oklahoma or Texas so its all in good fun. Figure I'll have to take my lumps in season one and probably season two to desperately try to beat Louisville, Florida, and get to a bowl game to save my ass in season 3. However, I think the contract goal of beating Florida for your first deal is ridiculous considering that UK hasn't beaten them in nearly 20 years. Tennessee would've been a better goal.
-
I didn't understand a damn word that girl said so because of that she'll probably get a monster contract.
-
Nevermind my pick of Jen. That Layla girl can cut a decent promo on the fly so her ass better win. She should drop that "let me shake my tits all over the place" thing, though. My God that last girl was AWFUL.
-
Can the Miz eliminate a Diva without having to do the "look one way and then look the other" thing? It's REALLY old now. Maybe he should just say their name. I think Jen is going to win this thing b/c she looks somewhat like Trish and they'll need to replace her. I also hope they don't send Jeff to RAW b/c they don't really need him.
-
Was I the only one who thought that Cena-Edge SummerSlam promo package was a little underwhelming?
-
Just WHY are we protecting Lawler here? It's not like he's won a match since he beat Tazz eons ago. Also, how in the video package can they say Edge stole the title from Cena? It was a damn triple threat match!
-
Why didn't Lawler, you know, prepare more backstage for this match instead of giving himself like 10 minutes of preparation?
-
Does anyone else get annoyed by JR recapping every aspect of a promo segment as if your too stupid to follow along yourself?
-
Please tell me Flair isn't drunk this week...then again it might be better if he is.
-
Agreed. That was a cool finish.
-
Well...sucks for her husband. She's losing her figure for the sake of Marraige..yea, that's not cool haha. I don't really think she's losing her figure and if I were the guy marrying Trish in a month I doubt I'd be complaining.
-
This is one of the better RAW crowds in a while. I think they are going to be electric for HHH-Umaga later.
-
Eh, I kinda liked her with Essa Rios best for some reason. Agreed. I remember when Rios debuted on Heat against Gillberg or something and Lita came in post-match and did a moonsault and the crowd totally bought into that and Rios became #2 in the pair from there on out.
-
Yea that FU was impressive, I'll give Cena credit where credit is due on that one. By the way, how can you recap "Showdown at Shea" without the Bruno-Zbyzko cage match. Oh wait, Bruno...gotcha.
-
I'll have to thank my lucky stars tonight that we didn't have to see that shitty STFU this week.
