Short of a totalitarian government which forcibly AIDS tests everyone in the country, and then quarantines the half of the country with AIDS from the half of the country without or at least tattoos those with HIV, I think it's impossible to solve the AIDS problem in Africa. The proportion of the problem in that are is so out of control that we can't even properly comprehend it here in the States.

Unless this is being sponsored by the French government, I see no reason why it shouldn't be allowed to air. I don't know that much about French law, so I can't say for sure what would and wouldn't be permitted under their government, but if it were in the United States, it would be an outrage to keep it from airing. Free speech and religious tolerance do work for everyone, so if they want to criticize the Jews, they have every right to do so. Stopping the Muslims from attacking Jews is no different than trying to stop Christians from saying anyone who hasn't accepted Jesus as their personal savior goes to hell. If they directly libel someone, I could see civil charges, but their condemnation of the entire Jewish people should not be censored under any sort of free government.

I care. I think it will be a damn good game. I've had shitty Pac-10 matchups until they're coming out my eyeballs, and Clean Old-Fashioned Hate will be a welcome change.

I still think the whole thing's kind of boring. The logo, the cap, the name, everything. How about the Washington Pimps or something. They could wear garish, neon purple and green uniforms, and they'd fit the real spirit of the city better than another stupid homage to the assholes on Capitol Hill.

You people are making this way too complicated. The computer rankings are comparable to where they were last week. The problem is that at least in the AP Poll, Louisville was already ranked ahead of Wisconsin and Florida State last week. Thus, those teams losing gained them only minimal points. However, Georgia at 11 and Miami at 12, were ranked behind both of those teams, so when they lost, that gave the Dawgs and Canes a huge bonus in the rankings. Since Georgia moved up from 11 to 8 in the AP poll, Miami moved up from 12 to 9 and Louisville only went from 8 to 7, it minimized the poll difference enough that Georgia and Miami could overtake them with the benefit of the computer rankings which don't know how much Louisville's been blowing out the jobbers by, or how close they came to winning in Miami.

Here's a complete summary of what this thread consists of week after week: 80% - Damaramu arguing with the whole rest of the forum about whether OU deserves an Orange Bowl shot 15%- Someone stating that they had a "revelation" that Utah can miss the BCS even if they're in the Top 6. 5%- Rational discussion of other aspects of college football. I actually don't even mind the Orange Bowl discussion that much since it is the number one issue in college football, but that second one is my pet peeve. I know I've explained in these threads at least three times how Utah automatically gets in as a mid-major in the Top 6, I've seen Bored do it a couple times, and now Edwin MacPhisto is getting put in that role. For the last time, if Utah is in the Top 6, they automatically get a BCS berth as a MID-MAJOR that's that high. It doesn't matter if they get passed by Texas or Cal or if Auburn or Oklahoma is an at-large team in the top six. Those teams ARE NOT mid-majors and the rule does NOT apply to them. The only way Utah can lose their berth is if there are two at-large teams in the national championship game. On a related note, Boston College doesn't have to be in the top 12 to get a BCS berth. It's only when a conference's BCS representative averages a worse rank than 12 for four years that their BCS spot even goes under review.

Why would it be a financial hit on them? The NCAA takes a very substantial portion of gate revenue on I-A teams, to the point where Temple can't be making a profit. Also, I doubt the gate would even go down that much, as after the initial shock of dropping from a BCS conference to I-AA, the fans would probably be glad to be able to gather around a team that could win a few games. I think the only reason they're staying at I-A is the prestige it affords the school. If you don't play I-A football, you're not thought of as a "major" school at some level, and it might reduce a little of the demand for students, and make it harder to recruit for other sports.

If I talk about Jason White not playing well in big games, I'm not talking about last year against Kansas State or LSU. I'm talking about this year against Texas. Look at these numbers: 14-26 for 113 yards with 0 TDs and 2 INTs. Really, why should Cedric Benson be punished for a bad game against OU when Jason White had an even worse one on the same field. The only difference between the two was that White had Adrian Peterson to carry him while Benson had Vince Young who's about as likely to step up in a big game as Ashlee Simpson is to give a great live performance. Yet White pretty much kept them alive in the OSU game and WON the Texas A&M game......hmmm.........that's why he deserves it. Every other game he's been ON and he won OU's toughest game pretty much by throwing 5 TD's. And the A&M game was a day where AD had a bad day but White was there. Fact is that White deserves it out of the Top 4 if Smith is left out b/c his stats this year are amazing and he's just been better than Leinhart, Bush, and Peterson. You could say pretty much the same thing for Cedric Benson. He ran for five TDs in the huge comeback against OSU, ran for 188 yards running and catching a touchdown in the late comeback against Arkansas, and hasn't had a game below 144 yards all year except for the OU/Texas game.

Boo indeed. I had a hunch that Toledo was going to pull the upset. (Well, hunch or sound theory steeped in mathematical analysis depending on how you look at it.)

Nah, that ND win over Michigan finally got explained today. Michigan's not really that good. They just cruised through an easy Big Ten. There's absolute no way that the Irish can hang with USC in the Coliseum. As for Tennessee, if they weren't good enough to be within four touchdowns at the half when they played at home, why would they do better with a gimpy quarterback playing at a neutral site? Face it. There are going to be four undefeated teams in the BCS this year, and the logic of "they always lose" just isn't going to hold up this time around.

Can everyone stop saying this? SOS is short for strength of schedule. When their schedule gets weaker, it will cause their computer rankings to go down. Hence, when I say "(t)hey say that Baylor and Iowa State are gonna hurt Oklahoma's SOS enough that they'll drop dramatically in the computer rankings", that doesn't have to apply to a separate component ranking; it's just talking about what they've done this year.
-
They're certainly not staying #1 in the computer rankings. They only moved ahead of USC a little bit ago, and playing Baylor's going to knock them back a bit, especially when USC takes on the Irish next week. They probably will remain ahead of Auburn in most of the rankings, and they probably will go to the Orange Bowl, but if you've studied the computer rankings at all, or even just gotten the general idea of how they tend to work from year to year, you'd know that Oklahoma's not staying at #1 in them.
-
I can't see that ever happening at a game in the States. I'm kind of surprised that people are still that backward and prejudiced in Spain.
-
Well in collegefootballnews.com's newest bowl projections, they still have Auburn playing USC for the title. They say that Baylor and Iowa State are gonna hurt Oklahoma's SOS enough that they'll drop dramatically in the computer rankings. However, I wouldn't give them too much credence since they also said that BC won't make a BCS bowl if they're out of the top 12 which is patently false, as confirmed by the official BCS website.
-
Also, OU's given shit because even though it was close, it's the third most impressive win on their schedule. It doesn't actively hurt their reputation, but it's also not enough to help them out and show them to be a top 2 team.
-
Auburn/Alabama is the most heated rivalry in the country. Oklahoma State is (most years) the third-most heated rivalry on OU's schedule. I think I see a little bit of a difference there. By the way, since I haven't posted it yet. The Cougars finally won the fucking Apple Cup! The seven year wait's over. We may be shitty, but at least we're not as shitty on UW.
-
So now I need Notre Dame to beat Minnesota just to get a bowl bid? Shit!
-
Well, considering they didn't get that high all spring and summer with no football competition, I'd say NO. Besides, they've run so goddamn much college football lately, I'd be surprised if they even get a 1.0 for it.
-
I was trying to tell everyone that they were overrated as fuck, but no one would listen. They were fifth in the ACC last year, and theyll probably be fifth in the ACC this year too. Write this down now. Georgia Tech will be the 2004-2005 NCAA national champion. North Carolina will lose in a 7/10 game.
-
The Apple Cup's on ABC? I guess I'll have to try and get my drunk ass on television.
-
That's because whenever you meet someone who doesn't love OU, you make them hate them with your incessant prattling bullshit. Shit, I bet you even make some Sooner fans turn on the team. Honestly, go to any corner of the country that hasn't been affected by all your endless, annoying, unreasonable ramblings, and you'll find that no one gives a shit about OU one way or the other. At this point, Notre Dame, Miami, Florida State, Florida, and USC are far more polarizing.
-
That last sentence pretty much says it all.

I think the only way to solve this is for someone like Donald Trump or Bill Gates to make a gigantic billboard in every major city at a high traffic point that's 500 feet high and 500 feet wide, and just says "FUCK". Then, maybe everyone will get over that word and its "horrors", and we'll be able to watch what we want without getting hassled again.
