Well one film is about Bush sucks. The other is about Jesus getting killed. Not total opposites.

I don't think Ray will get nominated. It was a good movie but only cause of Jamie Foxx. If Nemo didn't get nominated then I don't see Incredibles getting a nod. I think it will be: Aviator, Sideways, Million Dollar Baby, Hotel Rwanda and a dark horse like Eternal Sunshine. Kinsey has badly faded so I don't think Neeson will get a nod. Life Aquatic is getting poor reviews so out goes Murray. I'd take out Neeson for Cheadle. I think they have to throw Passion something so Cavaziel will get a nod over DiCaprio. Surely there's someone who was better then Winslet? Terry George directed Hotel Rwanda. Clint gets the nod over Salles. Alamo being a huge flop means no to Billy Bob. I think Ashley is going for best actress and DeLovely bombing means no to her. Don't know who would replace her though.

I can tell you right now that you're absolutely wrong. Passion of the Christ divided too many people to get a Best Picture nomination, it's snub at the Globes showed that. Ditto Fahrenheit. The fact that Kerry lost the election only hurts Moore's chances

NHL to seek cap in counter-proposal ESPN.com news services The NHL intends to reject the Players' Association's latest proposal and counter with one "consistent with our mandate," NHL executive vice president Bill Daly wrote in a Dec. 12 memorandum to all 30 member clubs. The memo was obtained by The Sports Network of Canada. The league has been seeking a system of "cost containment" throughout talks with the union on a new collective bargaining agreement. The Players' Association regards any connection between revenues and salaries as a salary cap and a non-starter in negotiations. While the memo does not detail what the NHL's proposal will contain, Daly writes that " ... under this scenario, the Union will likely [and quickly] break off negotiations." The NHL will present its counter-proposal to the NHLPA at a 1 p.m. ET meeting Tuesday in Toronto. The union proposed a 24-percent rollback in current salaries as the lynchpin of a 236-page proposal it presented to the league Thursday, the first negotiating session between the sides since Sept. 9. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman had called the offer "significant," but added that it is a "one-time element." Bettman said the league would digest the offer before formally responding to the union. Daly's eight-page memo reiterates Bettman's initial statement and further elaborates with the league's position. "In sum, we believe the Union's December 9 CBA proposal, while offering necessary and significant short-term financial relief, falls well short of providing the fundamental systemic changes that are required to ensure that overall League economics remain in synch on a going-forward basis," Daly writes. "While the immediate 'rollback' of 24 percent offered by the Union would materially improve League economics for the 2004-05 season, there is virtually nothing in the Union's proposal that would prevent the dollars 'saved' from being re-directed right back into the player compensation system, such that the League's overall financial losses would approach current levels in only a matter of a couple of years." Daly also pokes holes in the union's specific proposals, while alluding to the NHL's position, writing: The 24-percent rollback amount was adequate but should be structured among players "in a more equitable manner"; The proposed entry-level system "can still easily be circumvented"; The changes to the qualifying offer system "certainly would not result in the savings of the magnitude projected by the Union"; The salary arbitration alterations "would have very limited impact [if any] on a Club's or League-wide economics ... We intend to reiterate our proposal to eliminate salary arbitration in our next offer to the Union"; The luxury tax system demonstrates the union's "continuing objective to avoid at all costs placing meaningful restraints on a Club's ability to spend excessively on player salaries"; The memo also questions the motives behind the union's offer. "We believe the Union's offer was more about trying to unify the players and ensure player solidarity with what they would perceive as a very substantial proposal than it was about making a good faith effort to reach agreement with us ..." Daly writes. " ... The Union needed the 'rallying point' that it felt this offer would provide with the players to effectuate this strategy. Under this scenario, the Union will likely [and quickly] break off negotiations."

Edited for accuracy This coming from Mr. I only brought the hat to ride the bandwagon but will return the hat because it's "too big" after the series is over. I returned the hat cause it was $46. Get it right. And my friend bought me a Sox hat so now I have one. Yay.

Pro Wrestling NOAH’s Mitsuharu Misawa and Yoshinari Ogawa will not be appearing at this Friday’s FUSION debut at the Rexplex in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Numerous sources have confirmed that the NOAH talent, who were the focal point of what little advertising was done via the Internet and flyers, pulled out of the show late last week. One source close to the promotion attempted to cite a conflicting tour to PWInsider.com earlier today, but there are no NOAH dates scheduled for this weekend in Japan. Although the promotion has yet to make a public announcement, FUSION representatives, including the Maximos, have been trying to line up replacement talent since at least this past Thursday. Among the talent contacted have been AJ Styles, Steve Corino, Marty Janetty, Ultimo Dragon and Christopher Daniels, although none are yet confirmed for the event. The same source who claimed the non-existent NOAH tour told PWInsider.com that an official announcement of a replacement would be named this evening “if they weren’t going to appear.” Despite garnering immediate attention with the announcement of Misawa and Ogawa several weeks ago, the show (which is being put together by Evan Karagias, The Maximos, and a backer out of Pittsburgh, PA named Jacquelyn Moore) has been hampered by an apparent lack of organization. The initial announcement of the Japanese talent was quickly rescinded by the promotion, citing that it needed to be announced in Japan first. Flyers promoting the show featured incorrect names for the talent and the tag line that they would be appearing in the United States for the first time in “30 years” when had appeared for Pro Wrestling Iron in California on several occasions. There are conflicting stories as to whether the promotion even has a ring to use this weekend. The Maximos appeared last week on UXW promoter Frank Goodman’s hotline, trying to defuse rumors that the Japanese talent would not appear as well. Talent still announced to appear this Friday at the Rexplex includes Scott Hall, Sean Waltman, Justin Credible, Tommy Dreamer, Sean O’Haire, The Maximos, The Amazing Red, Ron Killings, Psicosis, Kazushi Miyamoto, Juventud Guerrera, Xavier, Danny Maff, Brian XL, Jay Lethal, Steve Madison, and Ryan Drago. Sonjay Dutt and Matt Striker were initially scheduled as well but are no longer advertised. In the case of Striker, he pulled out after being booked for his Japanese debut tour with ZERO-ONE. FUSION is scheduled to hold a press conference at 5 PM followed by the live event at 8 PM. For ticket information, visit www.MaximoFusion.com. Misawa and Ogawa were scheduled to face the Maximos, who have been the faces of the upstart company, contacting talent, handing out flyers at recent Northeastern independent events, and even having their names as part of the company's website URL. PWInsider.com will have further updates on the FUSION event as they become available.

Good. Garden State was really good but the last 15 minutes kind of killed it for me. I liked it but it wasn't a great movie or anything. I could see it getting a screenplay nod at the Oscars- I also hope Napoleon Dynamite gets something
-
I was dissapointed Harry Potter didn't get anything. I mean I didn't expect it to but it had an 88% rating at RT and I was hoping it'd get something. I'm happy Kill Bill and Eternal Sunshine got nods even though Eternal Sunshine being labelled a comedy kind of pisses me off since it's so not.

Quotes from tvtome- Michael: Oscar, please. You can't go. You got to stay, ok? This is the nicest she's (Lucille) been since she found out that Rosa could breast-feed Buster. Oscar: God willing, he'll fail boot camp. Michael: Well, why wouldn't he? He already failed day camp. Michael: Why'd you have to come back here in the first place? George Sr.: Oh, no reason. Your mother happens to be just shtupping my brother, that's all. Barry: Well, if he's got a shot with her, just give me a little tap on the fanny. Michael: It's not going to happen. Barry: Can I have a moment alone with my client, please? (to Michael) Did you follow any of that? George Sr.: Hey, by the way, I broke this thing. What the hell is it, anyway? Michael: That's a breast pump, dad. George Sr.: Oh, well, I did not use it for that.

The guy did Screwed with Norm Macdonald. Great movie.

Academy Award nominations are in late January. If Carrey doesn't get a nod here then the Academy loses a lot of legitmacy in my eyes. Actors nominated actors- maybe it's jealousy of Carrey's success or something. If he doesn't get nominated I hope he doesn't go off the deep end and do a movie like the Magestic again. I love Carrey to death but that was a real sad attempt to get an Oscar nomination.
-
No. Still don't get it

Lemony Snickett is a series of kids books written by Daniel Handler. They're the books that knocked Harry Potter off the #1 spot

Foxx is definetley getting nominated for Ray and he's probably going to win too. The movie's been a rousing success, Foxx's performance is causing people to ignore a lot of the movie faults (including Ebert) and Ray Charles just died and had a comeback this year. Kinsey has faded at the box office so I think Neeson will be ignored. Having 4 performances all based on real people is overkill and someone is going to get snubbed. I could see it being Leo or Neeson. I agree- they were my two favourite performances of the year. Kinsey bombing and Eternal Sunshine doing real well on DVD will only help Carrey. He's got to get a makeup nomination soon and this could be the year. Hotel Rwanda looks like the Schindler's List about Rwanda so I could see it getting some sentimental nods.
-
That's another thing- The Golden Globes seemed to go OMG CABLE!!!!~ just so they could like they were 'hip'. Without a Trace deserved something- if only just for 'Wannabe'. I'm surprised LaPaglia didn't get anything or the show didn't get a reward for finally knocking off ER

I personally loved the movie and it greatly affected me. I only saw it once since it was just too violent and too upsetting to sit through. I think he might get nominated as sort of a 'We're sorry you fucked you over all those years ago- we accept that you can act'. He was amazing in Eternal Sunshine. I'm still angry about him getting snubbed for Man of the Moon, one of my favourite films ever. In fact one of my teachers at school is a member of Academy and I yelled at hm that day when Carrey got snubbed. Dude- he's gonna win the Oscar. He should too- if anyone else was in Ray that movie would've sucked
-
Okay- fair enough. I just think you're underestimating the Lemony Snickett series (second only to Harry Potter) and Jim Carrey's box office potential. 40-50 mil is my prediction. I wouldn't be shocked if it does more
-
Ray got counted as a musical. Ditto Beyond the Sea. Oh and Passion of the Christ got screwed

Just go to the official site. Even though I love her to death, Renee getting nominated for Bridget Jones while Hugh Grant and Colin Firth got snubbed is bullshit. Renee was fine as Bridget but I thought her character was at times a bit too annoying and too bitchy. She was really unlikeable. The guys totally carried the movie. Grant was hilarious and was having so much fun playing Cleaver again while Firth was perfect as Darcy. He didn't come off like the pompous prick that he did in the first movie and he totally convinced me that he truly loved Bridget and was willing to put up with all her shit.
-
So Eternal Sunshine which was depressing and really sad- gets nominated as a comedy. Jamie Foxx only got nominated for Collateral just because he's hot right now. And you didn't post the TV nominations that shows that Foxx got his third nomination

The Taker haters have a point though. Ok here is a valid point... As Long as Undertaker can go he can still be there. Despite his age he isn't an Abdullah the Butcher being active in the ring and winning titles at 70. I don't get SD! but none of Taker's PPV matches have impressed me in the slightest. He no-sells and always makes his opponents look like shit. Yes. Anything is better then the Deadman. Tonight he kicked out of two frog splashes and he only lost case of Heidenreich. The guy's so over b/c he is never made to look weak. No. People obviously aren't interest in him wrestling anymore if the numbers drop. Undertaker killed a guy yet still expected to get cheered. It doesn't matter to us if the numbers drop but it's an argument to stop pushing him in every main event. Taker is the man so over that they did the wave during his title match at Summerslam and booed the main angle at No Mercy. Taker hampers my enjoyment. Taker is rarely on TV. Flair wrestles every week it seems. So we all should just shut up and stop criticising the product? Why even post here then?

Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events
bob_barron replied to Exslade ZX's topic in Television & Film
Harry Potter 3 was the best movie I've seen all year and the Chamber of Secrets is a fun kickass movie. I haven't seen Philosopher's Stone in a while
