WCW facts, tidbits, and stuff people forgot
UseTheSledgehammerUh replied to JoeDirt's topic in General Wrestling
WCW Worldwide, in 1992, held the "Nintendo Top Ten Tournament" in which we got a cool #1 seed heel Rick Rude Vs. #10 seed heel Terry Taylor match. I marked out, as a big fan of both and heels in general. -

OAO "Holy shit, Kurt Angle is in TNA now" thread...
UseTheSledgehammerUh replied to Downhome's topic in TNA Wrestling
I see the following: Jeff Jarrett left the WWF in October of 1999, never to return. Kurt Angle's hype videos began in October of 1999, with his debut in Nov. 99. So being that the world revolves around ol' Double J in TNA, we get: "I am the best wrestler in the world, Jeff. And you're the greatest world heavyweight champion. The fans have wanted to see this for SEVEN FREAKIN' YEARS! You ran away from me seven years ago!" ____ "I can just imagine what...everyone else in WWE is saying about this internally right now." I got a couple calls from 2 WWE non-wrestlers/employees immediately after. They thought it was really cool. WWE keeps up on TNA. -
"They are women's wrestlers." No, they're not. Most of them do more modeling, pillow-fighting, T & A segments, and DVD shoots then compete in matches. The only regular wrestlers are Mickey and Victoria, and now Lita.

Given TNA's tendency to use the "new star" (Christian, Sting) as little as possible in their first 2 months on TV, because, you know, they have to pay them while still trying to draw a PPV buy for them, I don't see how having Angle aboard is going to result in all these new fans tuning in. Wrestling's in the worst slump it's seen since since 1992-1995, who are all these fans? -

Wow, it was a pre-recorded video? And technically, the announcement was made by the voiceover guy. That was silly. -

TNA is not getting a 2 hour show. Just a 1 hour show from 9-10 PM every week Thursday Night, with the first of the Thursday shows being a 2-hour one. I dunno if I like that. 1 hour is still bad. -
Yeah, I'm aware that the Mets can't play the Phillies.
-
I've got a shot of the cheapest vodka I could find waiting, because in about 15 minutes I can say... "THE PHILLIES* CONTROL THE WILDCARD" * most wins in the NL since the All-Star Break. Bring it, Mets.

ECW facts, tidbits, and stuff people forgot
UseTheSledgehammerUh replied to JoeDirt's topic in General Wrestling
Yes, you're thinking of that one. He says WCW didn't make an offer, but then mentions he wants to work there. He says WWF pulled him from the Lennox Lewis boxing fight and other commercials/promotions overseas. He mentions his upcoming ECW dates, too. And the interviewer mentions them. -
"the Marlins flamed out, but this was a great season." This makes absolutely no sense. A season that gives a little hope to next year, maybe.

All update to CW's premiere of Smackdown -
Basically, Batista is a whiny bitch of an egomaniac who sucks in matches that don't involve Chris Benoit or Triple H, neither of which he has on Smackdown!. See: Ego getting him into fight w/ Booker and Shitty Smackdown! matches for more proof. Plus, I think he resents the fact that WWE is sending him to "Finlay School" to learn how to work better, ala Lashley, who now is main eventing and has a better muscular body than him.

The British Bulldog, Davey Boy Smith, was signed to work for several ECW dates after leaving the World Wrestling Federation in late 1992. PWI and The Wrestler covered it, and in an interview with Smith (a real one, not a worked "campy" one), that addressed Smith's use of steroids, Smith claimed that he would be working for ECW soon (early 1993) and exploring the possibilities of signing with WCW (which he did). -
Go Penn State! All I really had to say. Not a contender but a good enough team after last year's awesome victory. Hope they beat Ohio State, a team I really hate since as a child/teen I was a huge Michigan fan and am starting to dig them again now. STUPID penality to end/continue the first half on OSU.

ONCE AGAIN, *YOUR* WILDCARD co LEADING PHILLIES
-
Al, what was the crowd chanting during Coste's at bat? Another intentional walk on Howard. Then former PHILLIE KILLING MARLIN (now MARLIN KILLING PHILLIE) Jeff Conine cracks a big double. 8-4 with 1 out, and bases loaded now. Girardi throws Intentional Walks out (4 today) like candy.
-
Marlins get a bullshit 2-run homerun after Balkin' Bob Davidson, Phillies hater of MANNNNY years, calls strike 3 a ball. 6-4 phils now bottom 8.
-
Rollins hits #23, Marlins are dead. It would make me very happy that the Phillies have KO'd the Marlins and Astros from postseason contention with two sweeps, I sure hope they can finish Florida off today & tomorrow. Two clubs that broke the Phillies hearts the last time they got close to the WC. 1st and 3rd for Ryan Howard now after Chase and GO GO VICTORINO get on...better pitch to him, Girardi. Edit: Howard goes down swinging, damn.
-
Yeah these FOX broadcasters are awful. I've got the TV on and 1210 rockin'. Damn 1 second TV delay, though. Also: Joe Girardi's a jerk. Some friends and I will be attending tomorrow and Monday's games. We're contemplating bringing "PLEASE PITCH TO MY DADDY" signs.

Anyone who wants to catch up on Ultimate X-men
UseTheSledgehammerUh replied to LivingLegendGaryColeman's topic in Literature
I got this, as I needed early issues after #12 but before #40. Thoughts: First 12 issues, Magneto/Sentinels/Brotherhood/Weapon X are just excellent. Proteus "World Tour" storyline is "okay". "Hellfire & Brimstone" - the subplots (Beast) are good, but the Hellfire Club/Phoenix storyline is AWFUL. -
Civil War #4, and the entire storyline, sure blows. Seriously: CLONES! CLONES??!?!?!? WHAT??! A "Civil War" needs tons of deaths, not one. Where was Hank Pym at the hero who died's funeral? I think this obviously ends with some type of neutral evil spy unleashing Reed & Tony's "NEW SUPER HUMANS" they created, and the heroes working together to stop them. "It's not WHO you are, it's WHO you fight for!" and everyone makes up. ____ "I was really hoping they'd keep it hero vs. hero" I'm pretty much a Marvel Zombie, except for a few DC books. But Marvel Hero Vs. Marvel Hero sucks. Especially since most of Marvel's heroes, save Spider-Man, the X-Men, The Thing, and maybe a few others, don't appeal to everyone. Captain America. Iron Man, the numerous "giant growing characters", Wasp, Cloak, Dagger, etc., really have no connection to the audience. They're old and boring. DC has actually kept its heroes fresh. Check out "Identity Crisis" for how you do this. So I can see why the whole "HERO VS. HERO!" thing is given a break in Issue #5. Plus, Jack O' Lantern is going to pumpkin bomb Captain America into the ground. And Bullseye Vs. Daredevil. And, and, and I wanna see Venom Vs. uh...Hercules! Just so Hercules can die somehow.
-
Mickey wins. And damn, JBL started out ON FIRE as a commentator, but I can tell he wasn't feeling the product lately. He gave less effort and repeated the same jokes as if they were knew. Oh well. That sucks.

No, the art in Wolverine is the worst art I have ever seen since that issue of Uncanny X-Men abord the airplace (like...352ish) with some 10-12 different fill-in artists at once. And after Wolvie went skeletal and just walked around afterwards, I gave up. I also quit reading Wolverine: Origins, because it deals with shitty villains like Nuke & Omega Red and it tries too hard to appear edgy. ___ It's also bullshit how in Civil War: X-Men, a former X-team member gets "killed" by another former X-team member, because: A) It starts off good, with one yelling to the other, "YOU MURDERER!!!" B) Minutes later, they're all "We have to help him live!" (the "dead" person) C) They picked the lamest mutant out of the lamest team to off.
