Not a good match by any means...but it's still better than Kevin vs. Evad Sullivan!
-
Wasn't Lita only over in the first place because she showed off her thong?
-
Molly will run in with a chair, ending the whole thing in a no contest. The championship will be put up in a three way ladder match at Mania.
-
Oh, let's be honest...it's not like the fans care about the women's title anyways.
-
Two segments for this thing?
-
Come on now...there's no way it's worse than Taker vs. Giant Gonzalez... ...right?
-
I doubt it. He can barely walk since he snapped his leg like a slim jim. Ughh, don't remind me. Oh well...at least it was only Sid. Anyways...so who's gonna win this thing?
-
I'd mark out if Sid came down and powerbomed 'em all.
-
I'm not puzzled by Hogan's popularity - I just wonder why anyone would want to cheer Hacksaw Jim Duggan!
-
No, I definitely don't think that was happening - everything was building to the Bret/Owen feud to be blown off at Summerslam. Still, it would have been interesting to see exactly how they booked that Bret/Lex match.
-
No kidding. Here's how it happened, according to Cawthon's site: "Owen Hart won a 30-man Royal Rumble match at 1:10:17 by last eliminating Fatu; the last four men in the ring were Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, Fatu, and Owen; Michaels eliminated Bret; Owen eliminated Michaels after Razor Ramon came ringside to distract HBK; order of entry: Diesel, Mo, Butch, the 1-2-3 Kid (the Kid suffered a leg injury from his elimination which caused him to miss the PPV Rumble), Scott Steiner, Iron Mike Sharpe, Samu, Bob Backlund, Jeff Jarrett, Virgil, Bam Bam Bigelow, Randy Savage, Adam Bomb, Sgt. Slaughter, Crush, Mabel, Jim Powers, Bastion Booger, Luke, Owen Hart, Rick Martel, Bret Hart, IRS, Johnny Polo, Scott Putski, Fatu, Marty Jannetty, Bart Gunn, Shawn Michaels, and Doink the Clown; the final four men in the ring were Shawn Michaels, Bret, Owen, and Samu; Bret was eliminated after Fatu returned ringside; Michaels was eliminated after Razor Ramon came ringside; after the bout, Bret returned ringside to fight off the Headshrinkers and celebrate Owen's victory." Now if you substitute Luger in for Owen, and you have the same final four as the 94 Rumble, IIRC.

Why did Hogan refuse to job the title to Bret Hart before he left the WWF in 1993, but instead was willing to job it to Yokozuna?
-
Quite true. He won a battle royal in September and got a shot in November: "The Brooklyn Brawler won a 20-man battle royal to earn a world title shot during the November 15th MSG event; other participants included: Los Boricuas, DOA, the Truth Commission, Brian Christopher, Scott Taylor, the Headbangers, and the New Blackjacks, among others." "WWF World Champion Shawn Michaels pinned the Brooklyn Brawler at the 15 minute mark with the superkick after interference from Chyna and distraction from Triple H." I guess the weird thing about the Owen in 1994 thing is that it was an actual Royal Rumble...not a battle royal, which they had all the time.

I guess I just always pictured it as Bret/Lex doing a face vs. face match with Bret somehow coming out on top despite the bad knee. Too bad that Perfect left after WM10, huh? But hey...what happened was way better than the original Luger vs. Ludvig Borga plan, right?

And here's the follow up article that ran after Wrestlemania X: -------------------------------------- SWITCHEROO Just the other day, we reported the outcome of Wrestlemania X several hours before the huge pay-per-view event unfolded before a live Madison Square Garden audience. We told you that Lex Luger would defeat Yokozuna before losing the championship belt to Bret Hart. Long story short, we were right. The only thing is, Vince McMahon was not about to stage that scenario after we found it out and reported it. To make matters worse, obsessed World Wrestling Federation fans were milling around the lobby of the Doral Court Hotel and congratulating Hart a full 10 hours before he actually won. Our sources say that McMahon called a last-minute meeting to pull the old switcheroo. He stuck with keeping Hart as champion, but he had him fight Yokozuna instead of Luger. To follow up, he had his publicist - former NBC entertainment flack Curt Block - fax us a note that read in part, "[your reporting] proves once again that nothing is as exciting of unpredictable as the WWF." Yes, especially when good reporting and reliable sources blow the lid off carefully staged entertainment and force people to get very creative on the fly.

Oh, and a few added points. The article obviously seems quite tabloidish so I would take it with a grain of salt, but it makes it sound like the plan was for Bret to win the title after a Perfect heel turn, which doesn't seem right at all...anyone want to clarify?
-
I was watching Wrestlemania X today and then decided I would look online and dig up the article that made Vince change his mind and _not_ have Lex win the title from Yokozuna at Wrestlemania X (only to lose it to Bret in the last match of the night). I thought the people here might be interested to read it. ===================================================== GRAPPLERS ARE TATTLERS ABOUT WRESTLEMANIA We always wondered why athletes get stripped of their jobs/titles/houses/freedom if they: bet on games/take steroids/fix sporting events, while wrestlers get rich from all of the above right in front of everyone. Well, in the spirit of shocking, big breaking news we have to tell all of you obsessive fans who'll be attending this afternoon's Wreslemania competition at the Garden that we already know who's gonna win. We know this because about 12 of the bulked-up boys have been in town all week and several of them can't keep their traps shut. A huge contingent of them - including Bret Hart, Lex Luger, Stan Lane, Johnny Polo and Crush - plopped down for a few 32-ounce porterhouse steaks at Charlton's steak house Thursday night and our source caught it all. Turns out perennial good guy Luger will meet and beat perennial bad guy Yokozuna for the World Wrestling Federation championship title. But, we understand, Luger will only own the belt for about an hour. At that time Hart is supposed to climb into the ring and, with the help of guest referee Mr. Perfect, lay a big beating on Luger and be declared champion. But don't let us stop you from getting drunk in front of your children and cheering for your favorite actor, er, wrestler.

Hi, I'm looking for tapes (or DVD-R's or whatever) of WWF pre pay per view shows, such as the "March to Wrestlemania" shows (don't know how many of these there are, but I know WM 8, 9, and 10 have them), Survivor Series Showdown for 92 and 93, the Summerslam Spectacular shows, etc. If you have them or know anywhere I can get them, please let me know. I have tons of stuff to trade or could buy them. Thanks!
-
Oh, I agree. I loved them because they were against the HORRIBLE Master P group, who were supposed to be faces, but even the fans turned on them and cheered the Rednecks. Remember Swoll and BA and Master P all with Konnan and Misterio? Awful.
-
That just reminds me of the whole "Rap is Crap" angle of spring 1999 in WCW. Horrible stuff.
-
I just read the other day that in 1994, about a week before the Royal Rumble, the WWF held a special 30-man Royal Rumble at an MSG house show, a match that Owen Hart won. Did the WWF do anything like this any other times? Was it just a big "tuneup" for how the match would go down a week later? (Aside from Owen winning it, of course). Was it to give Owen a push building to his Wrestlemania match with Bret, that would take place at MSG?
-
I remember him just showing up on Heat for a week or two and squashing people. Then he appeared on RAW and danced with Too Cool and the rest is history.

1) JR made his WWF debut at Wrestlemania 9. I don't remember him calling an event (maybe KOTR93, can't remember) after that until 1996 - what happened? Did he just do backstage stuff, or was that when he got bells palsy? 2) What was the deal with "heel JR" in late 1996 who would be all pissed off at Vince? Just an angle that went nowhere? 3) What about "pissed off JR" again in 1999, where he had his own announce table built? Just another angle that went nowhere?
-
He won the title by a count out in a tourney final?
-
I actually have never seen this match - though I want to. Does it have the typical "Hulk up, punches, big boot, leg drop" finish to it?
