This day in WWF/E history for April 7th and 8th
JoeDirt replied to JoeDirt's topic in General Wrestling
I remember seeing that live. Bezerker nailed Taker with his shield and then tried to plunge his sword into Taker while he was still on the mat. Taker moved and the sword got stuck in the ring mat (which leads me to believe it wasn't a gimmick sword). That was quite the angle although it never actually led to anything. That actually sounds pretty cool, it's too bad Berzerker never really got a push. -
Were any of the other matches good?

1) What led up to the Bret/Backlund match at Survivor Series 1994? 2) Was it a big shock at the time to the internet community (though it was small) and the "smarts" that Diesel won the title right after SS? Or was it well known that Vince wanted to put the strap on the big man? 3) Was there ever any consideration of having Owen Hart take the title and be the guy who got squashed by Diesel? 4) So I was looking over the Wrestling Classics message board and I saw a post talking about what the nWo angle was inspired by, and found this: "The NWO angle was inspired by the UWFi vs. New Japan feud that Eric Bischoff saw first-hand." Anybody have any info on this feud and what took place in it that was like the nWo angle?

RYAN BOZ vs. TANK Plus, in action (either as part of the IWA World Heavyweight Title match, or in other bouts to be determined after Friday's show concludes): JIMMY JACOBS, CM PUNK, "Anarchist" ARIK CANNON, CHRIS CANDIDO, DELIRIOUS, CHRIS HERO, DANNY DANIELS, "Double C" CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI, "King of Diamonds" EDDIE KINGSTON, "Underwear Model" ERIC PRIEST, SILAS YOUNG, and "The Tremendous" EMIL SITOCI. Additionally, as part of the "Simply The Best 6" festivities, IWA Mid-South will be honoring a Chicago area legend with a special ceremony in Highland! Several last minute changes to the lineups had to be made as a result of a few developments. With Jimmy Jacobs winning the IWA World Heavyweight Title this past Friday in Herrin, IL, he will now be defending the title against Danny Daniels' original opponent for Midlothian, CM Punk. Unfortunately due to travel issues, B-Boy, Jack Evans, and Super Dragon will be unable to appear on this weekend's events. Dragon was only set to appear on Friday's card, and had to be back to California for an afternoon show on Saturday, which we were unable to make proper arrangements for. In the case of both B-Boy and Evans, we were under the impression initially that both wrestlers would be flying in from cities on the east coast for the weekend's events. Once their new travel information was brought to our attention, airfare prices out of Seattle (Evans) and San Diego (B-Boy) had skyrocketed to amounts which are out of our budget range. Trik Davis has agreed to team with Brandon Thomaselli against The Iron Saints in the TLC match on Saturday night to take B-Boy's spot, while Josh Abercrombie will now get the opportunity to participate in the Junior Tournament in the place of Evans. We will do our best to present two top quality events this weekend despite the changes. Yeah I think we're all looking forward to a 6-woman tag team match... Maybe add two more and do it Survivor Series style. The fans are demanding it.

Thanks for doing the threads. It helps me pinpoint errors like this. Yeah, Owen Hart clones would be kind of strange. -

God bless Mr. Perfect. I wish I had a more vivid memory of Repo Man's attack on Davey Boy Smith but I do remember marking out like crazy since I figured Repo was way lower on the totem pole than Bulldog. "Prime Time Wrestling - 4/20/92: Tito Santana defeated Repo Man via disqualification at 7:33 when Repo hit Santana with his steel hook and choked him with the rope; after the bout, Repo continued to choke Santana around the steel ringpost until officials sent him backstage (WrestleFest '92)" He must have been getting a slight heel push around this time? Either way, it's two TV tapings of him doing some dastardly stuff. Gotta love Repo Man. -

We have a Shiek/Slaughter bloodbath of a match. Were those common at the time at house shows? We have Norman Smiley in the WWF in 1990 wrestling Bob Orton Jr. in New Zealand? I'm interested to see Sid at a post-WM TV taping in 1992, winning a squash match and doing an interview mentioning Warrior. Did WWF think he was still sticking around at this point, and were they putting him into a feud with Warrior? We have Berzerker trying to stab Undertaker with his sword? Wow. Does that 1997 house show look horrible or what? We also have a RAW from 2002 in the midst of babyface pushes for Bubba and Bradshaw, plus a 2003 Smackdown with Cena beating Undertaker and Brock Lesnar defending the title against Matt Hardy, plus the return of Piper's Pit to WWE! -

following the bout, HBK and Booker were brutally triple teamed; the Hurricane attempted to make the save but was tossed to the floor; eventually, Kevin Nash made the save and laid Jericho and Flair to waste while Triple H left ringside (Nash's return after suffering an injury that put him out for 10 months) ==== No show for 2004. ==== --Some interesting stuff here, starting of course with Wrestlemania 2, a show you never hear talked about much. --1990 and 1991 have fairly boring shows in New Zealand. --In 1996 we have Bret Hart beating Steve Austin by submission before their feud really started later that year. --1997 gives us Austin wrestling twice on RAW, as he was really starting to get over. --1998, is there any particular reason why HHH vs Owen Hart would headline that house show and not Austin vs. Goldust? I guess the main event doesn't always have to go on last, but still. --2002 has hardcore title changes at a house show, plus Undertaker beating Austin in the main event for the #1 contendership? --2003 has Kevin Nash returning to RAW, Rock vs. Jeff Hardy, and Scott Steiner beating down Christopher Nowinski in their lame "war debate" feud.

1. Is there any particular reason why the WWF/E seems to always have done an international tour right after Wrestlemania? It seems to be a yearly tradition. 2. Was there any particular reason why March/April was chosen to be the time for Wrestlemania and not any other time of the year? Or is that just how it worked out so they kept going with it?

Was there any hesitation by Vince to do Diesel vs. HBK at Wrestlemania 11? We all know Vince's lack of pushing smaller guys, plus having a smaller guy like HBK in the heel spot against a big guy like Diesel was just something you didn't see. Were there ever any other plans, or was it always Diesel and Michaels? And if so, when did they decide to give Diesel the title and make this the Wrestlemania main event? (Well, aside from LT and Bam Bam of course)

That and him taking his shirt off to fight made me laugh the most on this episode by far.

Quality is decent, although two people have already requested it so you might have to look somewhere else to get it. Tapes are selling, so get stuff before its gone!

--Warrior did a speech at the University of Connecticut last night which turned into a free-for-all. Norm Mogyhtaderi, a sociology and history major said Warrior's beliefs were homophobic and racist. There was a major protest group and arguments back and forth, with Warrior screaming and stomping on the stage and saying he would answer all questions after his speech in a Q&AS format. Many people in the crowd were yelling and attacking him verbally as he spoke. Officers were called for back-up and the crowd was at one point told if they didn't stop, the speech would end. Warrior's actions were not supported in the end by the group that brought him, the College Republicans. "We are truly sorry that the Warrior did not measure up to our standards," said Heath Fahle, of the College Republicans .When it was over, the group even sent out a press release apologizing for his speech. They wanted Warrior to engage in a respectful debate. Warrior lost the crowd when he said, "Queering don't make the world work." When an Iranian student asked him a question, Warrior said he needed to "get a towel." As you can imagine, this caused another outburst. Other students then told Warrior he needed to apologize for the remark. Warrior showed a video where he ripped up an Iraqi flag. During the speech, Warrior admitted that he used steroids while in wrestling and called for other athletes to be as honest as he was on the subject. (thanks to Wes Jones) --Wrestlingobserver.com

When does the Kurt Angle Invitational end?
JoeDirt replied to Youth N Asia's topic in The WWE Folder
Yeah, but there are a million ways to bring Lesnar back and he'll be over...this is an easy way they can put over a new guy from OVW, by giving him a big win over Angle, and maybe going with something like Razor/123 Kid from there. -

Yeah, there can be a payoff down the road. But they can use it as "rainy day booking" so to speak, so when they have a guy to debut and want to give a good push to, they can use this. But it doesn't mean that they have anyone planned for the spot at this point, or are building to anything yet. -

At this point it's just for Angle to do someting on the show without having to do too much work, with the condition he's in these days. -
Eddie came into the ring (after OJ interfered) and beat up JBL, getting rey DQ-ed, and furthering the tease for that feud.

Eddie vs. Angle next week should be fun. Carlito having a talk show type thing is a great idea as well. It's too bad they're having a big #1 contender's tournament on Smackdown when the main event for Judgment Day is already being advertised in Minnesota. But the matches should be good.

Velocity: 1) Booker T vs. Spike Dudley 2) Funaki vs. Akio 3) Heidenreich vs. Shawn Ellis 4) Bashams vs. Holly/Haas Smackdown: 1) Paul London vs. Billy Kidman (CW title) 2) Big Show vs. Luther Reigns 3) Kurt Angle invitational 4) Rey Misterio vs. JBL + some diva contest and lots of interviews.

Every single match in a cage... Wow. Dusty is out of his mind.

Tonight was the first time I saw this version, and I thought it was very funny. I had heard so many negative reviews but decided to give it a shot and I liked it.

Um, I don't think they're taping SmackDown! at the Supershow, since there's a SmackDown! taping the very next night in Trenton. The 'Raw/SmackDown! Supershow' thing is a way to let people know this will be a special event WITHOUT revealing there will be a draft there (since it hasn't been mentioned in storylines yet). No, its gonna be both shows. Its advertised here in NY as both a Smackdown taping and Raw. Besides, the show starts at 6:45. Edit: I just checked WWE.com. There is nothing scheduled the night after the April 18th taping. I wonder how they're going to do that double taping? They must be taping RAW at 6:45 and then running it at 9:00, because it would be a tight fit to tape Smackdown from 6:45 - 9:00 when RAW goes on live and they wouldn't want to be taping Smackdown until 1 or 2 in the morning eastern time.
