But if the moderators (and the posters) of TSM feel like the garbage from NHB is entirely unnecessary and that the good elements of NHB can live in General Chat...then they've got the right to get rid of the folder - it's their community too. Question: what is keeping you from doing those threads in GC? It's General Chat. It has had threads like "The Person Above You Thread" - how is it somehow "smarter"? The people who are worried about the stupidity of NHB spreading into the other folders may have a legitimate complaint, but everybody else who is basically saying that TSM WOULD BE BANNING FUN IF THEY BANNED NHB~! are making absolutely no sense. Seriously, take a second, relax, and think about it - give me a legitimate reason why the fun that you have in NHB is somehow unattainable elsewhere. The major difference between General Chat and Hardcore Discussion, at least as far as I see it, is that HD is about talking trash, going off topic, gross stupidity. GC, on the other hand, is more about talking about a story, staying on topic, controlled stupidity. Look at the best threads from NHB and HD. They wouldn't fit into GC. There's too much rambling, too much randomness, too much stupidity. Therefore, I'd leave NHB the way it is. It is unique.

The Beasties had such a cross-over impact because they don't stick with one genre. You say that the Beasties have a lot of non hip-hop fans? Well its because 50% of their songs aren't hip hop. Going back to Check Your Head they've been doing a lot more instrumentals and hardcore songs. THATS why they cross-over so many genres. And Outkast is way more popular than the Beasties? Bah, thats nonsense. Again, I look at their crossover appeal. Both people in the hip-hop, rock, and "punk" scene dig the Beastie Boys because they play music that caters to them. No "punkers" were buying Stankonia. No rock fans were buying ATliens. The newest double LP was being bought by everyone and their mom, I'll give it that, shit...just that might make them as popular or a little more popular than the Beasties...but way more popular? Thats nonsense. In fact, if you polled the people right now which song is/was more popular, they'd say Sabotage over Hey Ya. I think everyone is doubting the Beasties power since they've taken a good 6 year hiatus from making an original music. The one track they released this year was horrible, but I am assuming that they'll still come back and be just as hot as this Outkast group everyone is talking about. I dunno. I'd say Sabotage was more of an underground hit that appealed to all people who listened to "alternative" music, whereas Hey Ya was more mainstream, and appealled to pop kids and parents as well as alternative kids. Or at least that's the way it is here in the UK.
