  1. Tiger Stadium 1. October 9, 1934. The Tigers lose game seven 11-0. Joe Medwick nearly sets a World Series record but is removed from the game after Tiger fans pelt him with produce. 2. July 13, 1971. All-Star game sees Reggie Jackson hit a home run off a light tower. 3. October 14, 1984. The Tigers win game five and the World Series, sealing the victory with Kirk Gibson's eighth-inning home run off Goose Gossage. 4. October 7, 1935. Goose Goslin's walk-off single gives the Tigers their first World championship. 5. July 8, 1941. Ted Williams hits a walk-off home run in an All-Star game.
  2. Sportsmans Park was a bit difficult, I'm sure I forgot something. I feel pretty good about the top few though. 1. October 15, 1946. Enos Slaughter scores from first on a double in the eighth as the Cardinals win the World Series. 2. August 19, 1951. Eddie Gaedel pinch hits and walks. 3. October 6, 1934. Dizzy Dean inexplicably pinch runs and is beaned on the noggin during a double play. (Game Four of the World Series) 4. September 28, 1947. Broadcaster Dizzy Dean complains that he could pitch better in retirement than the Browns' current pitching staff. The Browns take him up on his offer, and Dizzy throws four scoreless innings. 5. August 24, 1951. Browns' owner Bill Veeck runs "grandstand managers day."
  3. Best I could find on that trade was speculation by the Chicago Tribune. I can't imagine the Orioles trading Brian Roberts for that particular package.
  4. He'll do forum maintenance and upgrades from time to time, but never really posts in the forums.
  5. Added a poll.
  6. Tournament in Rio? WWE.com really needs to do that for at least one entrant.
  7. This is the best picture I snapped last night.
  8. The combination of MSG and the Rumble makes this a PPV I'll order. Looks like a great card.
  9. Let me elaborate on those WO.com spoilers. I liked the match. They retaped the end segment because one, Michelle talked on the microphone the second time when she didn't the first time. Second, Noble charged the ring the second time when he just glared in the aisle the first time. That's why. Except that the Undertaker turned back both men, though I'm not sure when they'll stick the commercial break. And Finlay hit Khali with a chair. Khali hit Finlay with a kick and Finlay bled (hardway) from that. Halfway decent? The match was GOOD.
  10. Generally I don't involve myself in the NFL happenings, but I had a request so here is a thread for you to discuss your eliminated teams heading into the offseason. Have at it.
  11. Before the NWA show, we get the ending to Goldberg/Scott Hall from Souled Out. Gotta love the caption... "Don't Taze Me Bro!"
  12. It's nothing Chavo hasn't done before, except he got caught. I think Colin Delaney is Mikey Version 2.
  13. Correct on the Finlay/McMahon stuff. No mention on MVP/Flair, all we saw was an on-screen graphic.
  14. First segment: Vickie Guerrero interview. We get Rey Misterio, Edge, then Chavo Guerrero. Mostly stuff about Edge, Eddie Guerrero, etc. Vickie sets up Chavo vs. Rey for later in the show. Jamie Noble d. Chuck Palumbo. Palumbo screams at Michelle after the loss, drawing out Noble again. This closing segment was re-taped. Batista d. MVP by countout. MVP vs. Ric Flair is set for the Royal Rumble. Undertaker d. Mark Henry & Matt Stryker in a handicap match, pinning Stryker following a tombstone piledriver. Big Daddy V attempted to attack the Undertaker following the match, but Taker fought off him and Henry. Vince McMahon with Hornswaggle & Finlay. Since Hornswaggle is in the Rumble, Finlay is as well. Hornswaggle d. Dalip Singh in an arm wrestling match. Finlay used some type of shock device hooked to the arm wrestling table to help Hornswaggle win. Kane d. Domino Rey Mysterio d. Chavo Guerrero. A few blown spots in this one so it might be interesting to see any edit job. Edge did commentary for the match and attacked Rey after the win. Dark Matches Pre: Kofi Kingston & Funaki d. the Highlanders Post: Batista d. Edge via DQ after Edge hit a low blow.
  15. I believe 911 left for WCW at this time, hence the ECW burial.
  16. Five for Ebbets Field. 1. April 15, 1947. Jackie Robinson integrates baseball. 2. October 5, 1941. Mickey Owens' passed ball leads to a Yankee rally in game four. The Yankees took a 3-1 series lead and went on to win the Series. 3. October 3, 1947. Yankees pitcher Bill Bevens loses a no-hitter and the game with one pitch in game four. 4. October 1, 1950. The Whiz Kids win the pennant on the season's final day. 5. June 15, 1938. The Dodgers host their first night game. Johnny Vander Meer seizes the moment and throws his second no-hitter in a row.
  17. I'll hit Ebbets and Sportsmans Park tomorrow. Since I have a bit of time before tonight's Smackdown show, here's what I came up for in regards to Wrigley Field. 1. October 1, 1932. Babe Ruth calls his shot as the Yankees win game three of the World Series. 2. October 8, 1929. Philadelphia manager Connie Mack bypasses his best starters in favor of journeyman Howard Ehmke to start game one. Ehmke responds by striking out 13 Cub hitters. 3. October 14, 2003. Steve Bartman interferes with a foul ball as the Cubs implode in the eighth inning of game six of the NLCS. 4. September 28, 1938. Gabby Hartnett's "Homer in the Gloamin'." Hartnett hits a game-winning home run with dusk descending on Wrigley Field to claim first place in the NL Pennant Race with less than a week to go. 5. May 6, 1998. Kerry Wood strikes out 20 batters and allows one hit, an infield single.
  18. I'm not certain if the research has been done based on the spot in the batting order. I can tell you though that the first inning (where the optimum order can be set beforehand) sees more runs scored than any other inning. The second inning is the lowest scoring inning of the game. The next six are completely random.
  19. Give me a ballpark and I'll make a list.
  20. Cheech, McGwire also received 128 votes last year.
  21. Player Total Votes Percentage Rich Gossage 466 85.8% Jim Rice 392 72.2% Andre Dawson 358 65.9% Bert Blyleven 336 61.9% Lee Smith 235 43.3% Jack Morris 233 42.9% Tommy John 158 29.1% Tim Raines 132 24.3% Mark McGwire 128 23.6% Alan Trammell 99 18.2% Dave Concepcion 88 16.2% Don Mattingly 86 15.8% Dave Parker 82 15.1% Dale Murphy 75 13.8% Harold Baines 28 5.2% Rod Beck 2 0.4% Travis Fryman 2 0.4% Robb Nen 2 0.4% Shawon Dunston 1 0.2% Chuck Finley 1 0.2% David Justice 1 0.2% Chuck Knoblauch 1 0.2% Todd Stottlemyre 1 0.2% Jose Rijo 0 0% Brady Anderson 0 0% Tim Raines got 24.3%. Jim Rice finished nearly 50% higher. That is absolutely pathetic, disgraceful. Otherwise, the most interesting piece of information is that Mark McGwire failed to gain a SINGLE Hall of Fame vote.
  22. Goose Gossage with 86% of the vote, no other inductees. I'm surprised to see such a high vote percentage so late into his voting process. With the standard for relievers established, Gossage meets those requirements. Deserving candidate.
  23. Three minutes to the announcement. Props to mlb.com, as I've caught five minutes of their coverage and am very impressed with their analysis.
  24. I'll take a little bit of fat over an obvious steroid physique any day.
