Hall of Fame results are announced today. ESPN's Sportsnation has SPOKEN! 75.6% for Rice, 43.6% for Tim Raines. Fucking morons. Since the 12 year standard of dominance has already been debunked by Joe Podnanski, let's have some fun and compare Rice's THREE best seasons. How does Rice from ages 24-26 stack up against MLB history? http://www.baseball-reference.com/pi/shareit/AgDd 33rd. Will Clark was every bit as good at his peak. Bobby Murcer had two seasons better than Rice's best. Ooh, Fred McGriff is a good one. Ignore Benny Kauff, he's only on there because that list includes his Federal League numbers. The point is that while Rice's peak numbers were good, they are not this ungodly stretch that makes him a Hall of Famer. And he brings nothing else to the table.

I really find it just as well to do my own edits. The only thing I can't do is the logos, but that's for completests as much as anything. Worth noting that this game has practically every Japanese wrestler you can think of included, all you need is to change the names.

Hmm, there's an idea. Most famous games at the Polo Grounds. 1. October 3, 1951. Bobby Thomson's "Shot Heart Round the World." 2. September 29, 1954. Willie Mays' famous catch, Giants win game one of World Series. 3. July 10, 1934. Carl Hubbell strikes out five Hall of Famers in succession, but American League wins All Star game. 4. August 16, 1920. Carl Mays kills Ray Chapman. 5. October 15, 1917. White Sox win game six and the World Series thanks to crucial fielding miscue by Giants that leaves home plate unoccupied.

What will always annoy me is that Richie Garcia was RIGHT THERE to get the damn call right.

Watch a Bruno Sammartino/Bob Backlund cage match and the concept makes sense. One wrestler doesn't leave the cage until the other is incapacitated. The problem is that the booking became too cute over the years.

The biggest problem wasn't always the angles, it was the production. Amateurish compared to WWE, who usually has their shit down by the time the live show hits the air. -
Why not beforehand?

It'll be interesting to see how things are portrayed there. Veneno really is an unknown here, his only notoriety comes from the ignored NWA title switch.

Simple question here. Any game/event throughout history that you wish you could have been in attendance for. For me it's the final game of the 1950 season, Phillies at Brooklyn. The Phillies hold a one game lead in the pennant race after leading seven with two weeks to go. Richie Ashburn cuts off Cal Abrams at home in the bottom of the ninth to preserve a tie. Dick Sisler hits a three-run shot in the top of the tenth to give the Phils the lead and the game. The Phils win their first pennant in 35 years and end the worst stretch of futility any team ever endured. Unlike the 1980 run, there is no videotape of this game anywhere save a few highlights.

DIVX was always a joke; hardly was a serious format. Beta / VHS was split out amount regions more than anything in the midst of the warz. I still have an old advertisement fresh in my mind from Circuit City I believe, encouraging customers to seek out a dvd player that supported Divx technology. Looking back, not only was it a generally abhorrent idea, but on-demand would have rendered it obsolete anyway.

I'd be surprised if they did NOT work Cena into the card somehow. He won't wrestle, but he'll make an appearance.

Here's a lovely postscript for Orioles fans. To acquire Chris Roberson, they placed Jeff Fiorentino on waivers. He was claimed by the Reds.

Browsing through Borders today, this book caught my eye. http://www.amazon.com/Stat-One-Craig-Messm...8661&sr=8-1 It's amazing that Pete Palmer's Hidden Game of Baseball came out 25 years ago with linear weights, and people are still trying to come up with inferior systems claiming they solved anything. Best I could tell from browsing the book, no adjustments whatsoever for park or context. What a waste of time.

That's quite unfair, Williams is not a bumbling idiot. He's an idiot who projects confidence.

At Jose Tabata's level, you almost have to trust the scouts. In my view, you have a 19 year old outfielder with a .375 career minor league OBP who just handled the Florida State League, a tough league for hitters. In Jackson's case, he had a dominant performance in the FSL, but in just 67 games. You need to demonstrate that you can maintain that type of performance over the long term. I'd rate them Chamberlain, Tabata, Kennedy, Jackson. Looking over the rest of the list, I'm not impressed by a 24 year old (Allan Horne) who spent the entire season at AA, no matter how many strikeouts he had. Montero deserves his ranking. Jeff Marquez who struck out 94 batters in 155 innings? Not a prospect. Brett Gardner no, he's a fifth outfielder. Ross Ohlendorf should have a future, especially if they make him a reliever. Real sleeper there. Brackman is a complete tools pick, he's out with TJ surgery and no real telling his future just yet.

I'd rank Chamberlain above Hughes. 135 Ks in 88 minor league innings is very impressive. I've been to a regional meeting. I'd say check it out without hesitation.

Its going to be a 15 minute tag team ironman match from the sounds of it (most pinfalls in 15 minutes wins) thats lame, though I dont recall off the top of my head any tag team iron man matches.. The Rockers and Rougeaus wrestled some ironman matches on house shows in 1989. Looking forward to next week's show, since I'll be there live!

Interesting video from about 1980. Gorilla Monsoon and Hulk Hogan grant interviews to a news crew.

I like the CWF stuff because they usually have an assortment of great wrestlers in there. Hate the Kevin Sullivan stuff, but you'll get great stuff like Bob Orton vs. Steve Keirn. -
My guess is that one of Dan Johnson or Daric Barton becomes the DH, and Jack Cust takes over in right field. It'll hurt their defense but really doesn't hurt the offense. And they did quickly restock their farm system. The White Sox dealt their farm for a player who is stretched defensively in center field. This move could really bite them in the ass two or three years from now.

While I'm on my monthly NFL tangent, fuck the Eagles fans. Yeah, take your mediocre season back to Citizens Bank Park and just try your E-A-G-L-E-S chants. At least the Phillies won their division. -

two reasons it isnt santino. 1. he's an ovw trainee. those guys tend not to be veterans. 2. we'd have heard that piece of trivia by now.
