Best movies that didn't actually exist
EVIL~! alkeiper replied to Atticus Chaos's topic in Television & Film
This movie exists. It's a 1938 film with James Cagney. -
I'd stay away from any Wal-Mart TVs, even if they are name brands. I recall reading they're able to offer them for cheaper prices because the sets are made up of inferior/older parts. Appliances in general have gotten worse. I recall buying a board game, I think it was the Game of Life, and being stunned by how cheap the plastic pieces were.

As it should be. 7pm? For god sakes let them get home.

Got this referred via SABR-L and I thought I would share it. An old Felix the Cat cartoon from 1922 featuring baseball. Some of it is potentially racially offensive, so be forewarned. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWIUzCg23o8

Speak for yourself. Our local Kmart is open until 11pm tonight.

Panama/Cuba without question was the best game of the World Baseball Classic.

In regards to the McCarthy trade, John Danks is a legit prospect in his own right. This is not a slam dunk trade by any means.

Since we have one week left, this seems like a good topic. What were your favorite games/events of 2006?

Thanks to the Complete Baseball Encyclopedia, where Roberto Alomar ranks among second basemen (min. 5000 plate appearances). This is why I don't pay attention to offseason rumors. There's a simple smell test I like to utilize, and it is simply that if the trade has been rumored for longer than a week or two, it is not happening. The reason being that if all parties liked the deal, they would have done it already. This trade was dead two weeks ago, but it keeps coming up because someone repeats it in the absence of real, meaningful baseball news.

I'd have to close the entire site.

Interesting questions Leena. 1) Do you think he'll retire as the greatest SS/3B in history? Doubtful. Honus Wagner's lead at shortstop is virtually insurmountable. At third base, Rodriguez might pass Mike Schmidt in production but he can not match the gold gloves. Rodriguez could rank as high as second though if rated as a shortstop. One interesting thing here. I looked up shortstops by batting average before they turned 31. The shortstop with the highest average (.331) was the recently departed Cecil Travis. Travis might very well have been a Hall of Famer if not for World War II. 2) Will he break Barroid's HR record? No. Rodriguez still needs 300 home runs, which is a full career for most players. 3) Will he be regarded as the greatest player in history? No. Rodriguez doesn't rank high enough except in counting stats. A better question would be if he were to land in the top 20 or so. 4) Will he bat for 60+ HR's in a single season? His 48 HRs set a Yankee Stadium record for right handers. I doubt he can go any higher. 5) When will the Yankees mercifully let him go? As Cheech noted, Rodriguez would be wise to opt out after 2008 if the market holds.

Bruiser, how the heck did you manage a 1 hour, 30 minute double post?
-
Awful. I like Larry Brown as a coach. But the Sixers have now started enjoyed the services of five different coaches in the last five seasons. At some point you have to stick to your goddamned plan.

Yeah, this thread went down the toilet.

Guys, tread lightly on the subject when it comes to racism.

The consensus seems that Suppan will wait for the Zito sweepstakes to sort out. He'll be a more attractive free agent afterwards.
-
This is a rare opportunity to say it was a bad trade for both clubs.
-
I think OPS+ overrates Concepcion over Smith, because Ozzie's figures are heavily weighted towards OBP.

Honestly, how many MLB clubs have really good backup shortstops?

In addition to my dvd/vcr combo system, I've got a drive in my laptop that plays dvds, and my Playstation2 as well. My question is, how many of you have insane numbers of electronics that play movies. And better yet, how many do you actually use for said purpose?

Meanwhile, the Phils are close to a deal with Rod Barajas. I don't get it. Barajas has power, but zero plate discipline and a low batting average. He's praised for his defense but both Carlos Ruiz and Chris Coste are good defenders. It's a good move if Barajas' playing time is limited, but I have my doubts about that.

Matt Silva and Glen Perkins appear to be the 4th/5th candidates. The Twins rotation honestly isn't in bad shape. In fact, this is exactly why guys like Jason Marquis get oversized deals. People trust the known quantities over the unknown. There's no reason the prospects can't be as good.
