The simulation simply measures stats. It doesn't take into account how the pitcher piched, whether he threw lots of spitballs, breaking balls, or what not.

Wow. I simply cannot believe this player fell to me. My second round pick is a Philadelphia legend. The greatest player in the history of the Phillies. 548 career home runs. 1,507 career walks. Three MVP awards. 10 Gold Gloves. 12 All-Star Selections. The Stroudsburg Poconos select 3B Mike Schmidt.

Someone at Baseball Primer said it best...

That brings up Brian, myself, and Dr. Tom. And then the same three in reverse.

Cena's Writer selects Hank Greenberg. Vern Gagne selects Mel Ott.
-
Vern, if you like you can PM me two picks in case Bravesfan posts, since I'm calling it a night. I'll hit up yours and Cena's picks in the morning, and add my own.
-
I have Cena's next pick via PM.

Essentially I use biological information and descriptions to garner a general idea of the player's skills, and work from there. I'll look at the stats, but given that the level of competition is hard to discern, I won't take them at face value.

What about Sunday evening? Anyone have an issue with that time?

JHawk, Bravesfan and Cena's Writer are up next.

Beast selects Warren Spahn.

Yankee Stadium. I think the 1937 dimensions are suitable, which place the fences at 301 in left, 457 in death valley in left, 461 in center, and 296 in right. Part of the odd dimensions was to accomodate the stadium for football games. The first overtime game in NFL history was played at Yankee Stadium.

I have all the stadium info available from my copy of Total Baseball, so I can iron out the details.

I'm actually assigning your team name as either Bethlehem or Jerusalem, since someone else is using the Portland Beavers. Or, I could name your team the Hollywood Fightin' Jews, and give you Wrigley Field in Los Angeles.

Would everyone like to try and do an AIM session, around 9:30 eastern on Friday?

162 games, with two rounds of playoffs. Park factors will come into play. I've been scouring the net for a local park to represent each team, but if you would like to select your own park, by all means do so. Please do not request "extreme" parks such as the LA Coliseum, or Braves Field in Boston. Yes. I might slide it into the 1980s system though.

Yes, but could he hold up in today's game? That's the big question. I think Young is actually underrated, as his prime occured during one of the biggest eras for run production, from 1893-7. Fantastic control pitcher who led the league in BB/9 14 times.

MartyEWR selects Pete Alexander.

Head 2 Head Fantasy Baseball 2005

Yeah. In fact, who's holding up the works THIS time? Oh wait, its flik's turn. -
I'm not. There's just oo much talent available.

Here's a second idea I have. We hold an AIM chat and run a few rounds at a time. If anyone cannot make it, they can form a list of about 10-15 players. I'll autodraft for the people missing.

The New York Mets had a disasterous season, losing 91 games. Some of the veterans on the club convinced the higher-ups that the team was in a position to contend, and the club traded several prospects for mediocre players. Out went Scott Kazmir and Justin Huber, and in came Victor Zambrano and Kris Benson. The infusion of veteran pitching talent boosted the club, as they posted a 22-37 record after July 31. Met fans were outraged at the trades. The Mets finally fired GM Steve Phillips, and hired Omar Minaya. The club went out this offseason and signed the two best free agents on the market, outfielder Carlos Beltran and pitcher Pedro Martinez. While these signings do not represent a complete makeover for the Mets, they do represent an outreach of good faith by the team towards the fans. The bullpen is often criticized, but the Mets finished seventh in the NL in bullpen ERA, ahead of Houston and Florida. However, the Mets traded away Mike Stanton for Felix Heredia, and lost Ricky Bottalico to free agency. Orber Moreno will miss at least half the season due to injury, and John Franco is gone (albeit mercifully). The Mets will need their second line relievers to step up. There is some good talent in that group, but it is an issue. The rotation seems impressive at first glance, but it presents its own problems. I think Pedro Martinez will dominate. Tom Glavine is skating the line, as he is nearing the end of his career. Kris Benson has never been more than average since returning from arm surgery. Zambrano walks nearly as many batters as he strikes out, and he doesn't have a great K rate that hurlers such as Nolan Ryan and Randy Johnson had. Steve Trachsel's peripherals have slipped, and he's below average as well. This rotation could easily collapse. The lineup is solid, provided they stay healthy. Mike Cameron will likely miss April to injury. Cliff Floyd usually misses 30-40 games a season. Jose Reyes missed significant time last season. Mike Piazza is a 36 year old catcher. There are still some issues here. Pedro Martinez makes an upgrade over Al Leiter, but since Leiter posted a 3.21 ERA last season, it might not make a big difference. Carlos Beltran does make a HUGE upgrade over Richard Hidalgo and Karim Garcia. Honestly, I just can't see this team winning the NL East without a great deal of luck.

Severn competed in the Brawl For All tournament. He defeated the Godfather via decision in the first round, but watching live I recall thinking the Godfather dominated, and they handed Severn a gift decision. Afterwards, they dropped Severn from the tournament before he could become exposed any further.
