  1. Are you talking through free agency or through trades? If you're talking trades, they've lost a fair number. Also, people who are thinking Doug Melvin and Mark Attanasio would be willing to trade Ben Sheets: No way. Not when Attanasio just finalized buying the team and stated his first priority was signing Sheets. They have, but they received a fair return in most of those trades, particularly in the Sexson deal.
  2. This is a waste of time. I don't see what congress can accomplish with this, and I do not see the current players being forthcoming with information. The last time Congress dealt with MLB, it was a complete joke. While I am on the subject, anyone else think the steroid problem is not limited to baseball?
  3. Slapnuts selects Cy Young. Looney Tune selects Roberto Clemente.
  4. Here's an idea I've been kicking around. Instead of slot drafting, we'd do a "Midnight Madness" type of system. Each day we do one round, and each person makes their pick whenever they are online. It has its drawbacks obviously, but it would ensure that things keep moving. The talent pool we draw from is deep enough that it wouldn't cause as many problems as a traditional fantasy draft.
  5. That is a big deal. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.
  6. In the morning or in the afternoon? Also keep in mind that with the serpentine draft, its IK, Roy, Roy and then IK again.
  7. Usually the stats will represent the player's prime.
  8. That's a good idea. If anyone wants to PM me 5-7 picks, I'll autorun the draft whenever I can.
  9. As for Nolan Ryan vs. Randy Johnson, Johnson is a better pitcher and it is not even close. Ryan in my opinion is probably one of the most overrated players in baseball history. His adjusted ERA+ is not even within the top 100 pitchers in baseball history. He never won a Cy Young award, and as Harley noted, he walked a tremendous number of hitters. By comparison, Johnson won five Cy Young awards to Nolan's zero. Johnson's adjusted ERA+ is eighth all-time. Johnson's K rate is the best all-time, and despite Ryan having played 27 seasons, Johnson has appeared in more All-Star games (10 to 8).
  10. If you want, you can PM me three players. You have two picks coming up since you're at the end of the round.
  11. Ok. Name the last All-Star player the Brewers lost to a big market club. They haven't even HAD quality players. I think Ben Sheets will sign a long-term deal with Milwaukee at some point.
  12. Brewers are a poorly run team. They have a new owner and new general manager.
  13. One of these days, someone has got to explain to me why the Brewers would trade their best pitcher a year and a half before he hits free agency to one of two teams that have few elite prospects in their systems. I actually think third place is a possibility, if the Astros collapse.
  14. http://www.angelfire.com/wrestling/cawthon777/results.htm Looking over things, I was shocked to see how few matches Williams actually had in WWE. 4/28/1998 Steve Williams d. Scorpio (For kicks, another dark match at this card featured Adam Copeland beating Matt Hardy) 7/14/1998 Brawl For All: Steve Williams d. Pierre 7/27/1998 Brawl For All: Bart Gunn d. Steve Williams after Al Snow interfered Williams interfered in the Holly/Snow match on the next Raw, and that was it.
  15. The Milwaukee Brewers lost 94 games last year, par for the course with this squad. The Brewers have lost 94, 106, 94 and 94 games in the last four seasons. The Brewers have not enjoyed a winning season since 1992. However, this squad finally has reason to hope. Several young players are on their way up, and they are taking the place of unproductive veterans. The club also plugged some other holes. For example... Catcher: Last year the Brewers received poor production from Chad Moeller (.208/.265/.303) and Gary Bennett (.224/.297/.329). Combined, the duo scored just 45 runs created. The Brewers signed Damian Miller to a three year contract. Miller should produce an OPS at least 100 points higher than his predecessors. Second Base: Junior Spivey played just 59 games last season. He led the team in games played at second base. Keith Ginter filled in admirably and produced for 52 games, but Bill Hall provided little production in 47 games. A full season from Spivey would benefit the team greatly. Shortstop: Craig Counsell posted a .330 OBP but a meager .315 slugging percentage. 22 year old J.J. Hardy is penciled in to take the SS job this season. Pecota projects a .268/.328/.437 line. ZipS predicts a .252/.347/.397 line. Both represent improvements over Counsell. Outfield: The Brewers traded Scott Podsednik to the Chicago White Sox for Carlos Lee, apparently while Kenny Williams was drinking. Podsednik posted a .244/.313/.364 line last season for the Brewers, albeit with 70 stolen bases in 83 tries. Carlos Lee hit .306/.366/.525 last season with 11 steals. Brady Clark will likely slide over to center field until Dave Krynzel is ready. Pitchers: Ben Hendrickson struggled in the majors last season, but his pedigree is solid. He should improve this season. Jose Capellan provides a solid young arm as well. Dan Kolb earned the "proven closer" tag, despite a non-existant K rate, and a 4.88 Post All-Star break ERA. The Brewers did well to trade Kolb while his value was high. This team colud easily improve by ten games or more this season. A run at .500 is quite possible.
  16. I'm going to go ahead and select RP B.J. Ryan.
  17. John Gibbons
  18. Anyone else catch Kenny Mayne's Sportscenter piece previewing this game? Classic.
  19. I think they let him go another year after this one. It's not like the Gord Ash era reaked of prosperity.
  20. The Toronto Blue Jays suffered a 94 loss season, as both their top hitter and top pitcher missed significant time due to injury. The offense, which finished second in the American League in 2003, fell to 12th last season. Besides Delgado, Vernon Wells and Eric Hinske both suffered declines last season, and the rest of the offense fell across the board. The bullpen was a disaster, as several relievers failed to get the job done. So what brings hope for this season? For one, the Blue Jays have several young players who hope to improve this season. Guillermo Quiroz, Russ Adams, Alexis Rios, and Gabe Gross all show promise. The Blue Jays shored up their first base problem by signing Corey Koskie, and Shea Hillenbrand should at least tread water at first base. The pitching is significantly improved. The Blue Jays acquired Chad Gaudin in a trade with the Devil Rays. An absolute steal, in my opinion. The Jays offer a front four rotation of Roy Halladay, Ted Lilly, David Bush, and Miguel Batista. The Blue Jays gave 16 starts to Pat Hentgen (6.95 ERA) and 15 starts to Justin Miller (6.06). That will not happen again this season. Even with their problems, the Blue Jays finished seventh in pitching last year, and this staff has improved. The acquisition of Scott Schoeneweis raised some eyebrows, but his statistics are much better as a reliever. In the absence of a quality lefty reliever, the Blue Jays got creative. Look at it this way. The pitching is middle of the league. If the offense can work its way to seventh, they're a .500 quality team. I think this team will climb out of the cellar, and should give the Orioles a run for third place.
  21. David Flair is second generation. Ditto Erik Watts. That's true. And those wrestlers got much further than they had any right to go. Second generation wrestlers aren't always good, but it is a benefit.
  22. Bravesfan PM'ed me to select OF Ty Cobb. Next are JHawk, Beast and Bored.
  23. Yeah. There's nothing better than a sport where, due to work constraints, I get to see three games a year. And two of those are because the Eagles are popular enough to get on Monday Night Football. Baseball is on every night for six months. I can decide two hours before a game to go out and catch a minor league Red Barons game, drive up and buy a good ticket, just like going to the movies. No other sport gives you that kind of freedom. If you don't like 162 game seasons, you don't have to watch every game.
  24. One thing no one mentions. Did WWE ever have a Face vs. Face World Title Match between Hogan/Warrior and Morales/Sammartino in 1972? Hogan/Warrior was unique at the time because it was the kind of match that came along once in a decade. Even Davey Boy/Bret at Summerslam two years later was special in that regard because you simply did not see face vs. face matches.
  25. Dupree is also a second generation wrestler, and that sets him apart from the generic slugs like Chris Masters.
