  1. That's great. They won a division that they couldn't have possibly lost. It's worthy of a whole bunch of posts in this thread, just like people did with the Yankees here. Making a new thread to announce that the Twins won the unlosable Central is a bit much People seem to forget that the Tigers, the Indians, and the White Sox all made runs this season. Had the White Sox not lost their two best hitters, its quite possible they could have beaten the Twins. The Indians had one of the best offenses in baseball, and pulled within one game before the Twins put a run together. This division was no sure thing. Besides, I think beating a handful of .500 teams on a budget is more impressive than winning a World Series when you spend nearly $200 Million on payroll.
  2. You know that New Topic button works for every poster, don't you?
  3. Well, the Cubs implosion continues. A loss, and they're pretty much out of the race. Anaheim @ Oakland tonight. Bartolo Colon faces Mark Mulder. First of three games to determine the AL West champion. San Francisco @ Los Angeles tonight, Kirk Rueter versus Jeff Weaver. The Dodgers can clinch the NL West with a victory tonight. Colorado @ Houston at 8pm ET. Joe Kennedy faces Peter Munro. The Astros are looking for the wild card. If they lose, LA clinches at least a playoff berth.
  4. I'm saying if there is irreconsileable differences between the players and the announcers, then the announcers are more expendable.
  5. We're up to 17 teams already. The league can accept three more.
  6. The announcers should go. I'm not saying there is nothing wrong with the Cubs. They could use improvement. But who is easier to replace here? You can find another broadcaster. And for these broadcasters to continually denegrate the players on print devalues the franchise as a whole.
  7. They did, but it's coincidence. The entire offense was absolutely abysmal to start the season.
  8. Very much so, for the same reasons. Kobe without Shaq, and vice versa. Tracy McGrady with a real teammate. Steve Nash in Phoenix. The Charlotte Bobcats. Orlando with Steve Francis and the occasional appearance by Jameer Nelson.
  9. For those of you interested, here are the rosters for the Arizona Fall League..... http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/leagu...aflrosters.html
  10. http://www.fieldofschemes.com I feel bad for Oriole fans at this point. Baseball has given them an incentive to royally suck, and Angelos can reap massive profits from the deal. Disgraceful.
  11. Carl Everett looked like a good investment at the time, and Minaya dumped him on the White Sox anyway.
  12. I think Minaya did an above-average job. He made some trades that hurt the franchise (Grady Sizemore), but he got Livan Hernandez for Jim Brower, which was an absolute steal for the franchise.
  13. The best way to steer the conversation towards your desired topics are to start your own threads, as Pinjockey stated. I will encourage Bored to use the same threads for contest picks and results. There are two fantasy basketball threads, but those are for leagues starting up, so its not like that's a regular occurance. If you have any concerns, feel free to PM me or hit me up via AIM.
  14. I've PM'ed you a message. Check that and you should be good to go.
  15. This is basically the fallout from the Papov suit. The judge failed to establish a precident, so the next time it happened, it turned into a free-for-all. Honestly, I would be surprised if this lawsuit got very far, on either case. Papov at least had the video of the ball hitting his glove. Is there any such video of the plantiff here? He is the one who has to establish proof.
  16. For the Dunn fans, if you haven't read my column, check it out. I give Dunn a good writeup. As for the games, we've got the A's and Angels tied, and they play three at the Coliseum this weekend. The playoffs start early this year. It doesn't get much better than this.
  17. Texas is officially eliminated. Since Anaheim and Oakland are playing each other to end the season, one of those teams has to win two games. If Oakland keeps it within one game today, we are going to have ourselves one hell of a closing weekend series. Today is one of those annoying Thursdays, where I miss everything because of classes and work. Damn it all.
  18. Like I said, shooting percentage is skewed towards centers. Shaquille O'Neal usually shoots around 57%. Is he a great shooter? Fuck no. Free throw percentage is entirely unbiased, so I used that Three point shots count for three points each, and that's reflected in the points scored category. Kobe Bryant and Allen Iverson are generally regarded among the better players in basketball. Why shouldn't players pick them?
  19. Well gang, I'm starting up a separate fantasy league on Yahoo, or those interested in a rotisserie format. The league will hold a maximum of twenty teams, which, judging by the early interest, we should reach. If not, no harm. Here are the basics.... -Positions are PG, SG, SF, PF, C, UTIL. 3 Bench slots, and two IL slots. -Stats are points, rebounds, blocks, steals, assists, and FT%. There are a few missing stats, and I'll explain why. First off, field goal percentage tends to favor centers, rather than players who can actually shoot. Assist/Turnover Percentage was available, but I feel it is a junk stat. It doesn't accurately reflect any true skill. Turnovers themselves are just a function of who gets the ball most often. If anyone is wondering about other stats, just ask. I felt these six stats would get the basic premise accomplished, which is to make players form balanced teams. -Draft will be live on Yahoo, Tuesday Oct. 12 at 8pm ET. This allows everyone almost two weeks to get ready. -The league will vote on whether or not to veto trades. Here is the ID and password. First come, first served.... ID: 861 password: smartmarks
  20. Rangers up 5-4 after 8. The A's could get a break here.
  21. Giants lead the Padres 2-0 after 1. A's/Mariners tied at zero in the 2nd. Anaheim/Texas tied at 5 in the eighth.
  22. Astros/Cardinals is tied at 4 in the 7th, and Rangers/Angels is tied at 5 in the 6th.
  23. One little number I'd like to point out. 2002 Attendance Montreal: 812,045 Florida: 813,118 And an article from Jim Caple.... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/stor...&page=caple_jim
