  1. Congratulations.
  2. I can count three times in 85 years that Boston has TRULY choked. That hardly makes it a sure thing.
  3. In doing the math, I figure we're 80 games in. Last year, the Red Sox won the Wild Card with a .586 Winning Percentage. If the wild card leader is on that pace, they'll have 47 wins. 5 games under would be 35 wins, a difference of twelve games. That's not an insurmountable lead, but its only accomplished once every twenty years or so.
  4. As an aside, I wouldn't count on the Yankees being below .500. Soon, they'll get to clean up on the AL Central. They're down right now because they've had six games against the AL East's other elite teams.
  5. Richard Hidalgo ($12 Million) is off the books after this season.
  6. With the wild card, I'd say about 5 games under.
  7. 3 games below .500. I am assuming the leading team would be somewhere around 8 games above .500 at that point.
  8. The Royals have David DeJesus coming up, so they'll let Beltran go. I can't see the Yankees making a big push, because they already have Bernie, Sheffield, and Matsui locked through next year. I could easily see the Dodgers making a push though, or perhaps the Mariners if Bill Bavasi pulls his head out of his ass.
  9. White players from all countries, I'd take Kirilenko. If we just take American white players, I'd go with Brad Miller.
  10. Randy Wolf doubles, and the Phillies lead 7-0 in the 9th.
  11. The Expos as a whole are just terrible this season.
  12. Randy Wolf hits a home run, and the Phillies lead 6-0 in the 7th.
  13. Doesn't matter. A pitcher with excellent K and BB ratios usually pitches well in the majors. Using defensive independent stats is even more important in the minors because defenses aren't as refined as in the majors.
  14. Contreras walked 9 batters in 11 innings, along with four home runs (matching last year's total). His failure is easy to pinpoint. Weaver's a tough case. I don't know how to explain it, other than that he should improve. But one outlier doesn't disprove an entire theory.
  15. Arroyo in AAA last season: 149.7 IP, 155 Ks, 23 BBs, 9 HRs Allowed. Once again, DIPS.
  16. Its interesting to look at the Anaheim Angels this season. Vlad, Garret Anderson, and Jose Guillen are considered low-walk guys. Then you have David Eckstein and Darin Erstad, the scrappy players. In essence, they are the anti-sabermetric club. And they're up against the sabermetric darlings, the Oakland A's. Not just today, but for the entire divisional race. I agree with Jim Caple. Screw Sox/Yankees. This is the fun series.
  17. Good win for the Phillies today.
  18. The big heavyweight bout between Vitali Klitschko and Corrie Sanders is tomorrow night. RING Magazine will award world title recognition to the winner, as will I. Personally, I think Vitali wins by KO.
  19. Dude, OBP is the entire point of the game. It means you're not collecting outs, but getting on base, which leads to runs, and hopefully big innings. Perhaps the next time Alex Graman looks like a viable option.
  20. Why don't the Yankees give Donovan Osbourne a start?
  21. Sheffield and Giambi have high OBPs.
  22. I couldn't fairly bash him for anything specific. Rest assured I'm waiting for my opportunity.
  23. And of course, with Glanville now batting instead of Burrell, Thome is intentionally walked.
  24. No, Anglesault is entirely negative and has given up all hope on an underachieving team. I am positive about my team's chances, and am offering a viable, practical solution to my team's woes. Its linked on my sig, and the main page of TSM.
  25. Roberto Hernandez in to pitch in a close game. Fire Bowa.
