  1. No, I'm going to throw things from my room. Well, its not the worst thing that could happen.
  2. Winter meetings special on ESPN.
  3. Well, its a good idea Tom, but I don't think it would work in practice. I mean, what happens when someone has a legitimate lawsuit against a big corporation? You can't compete with their lawyers, and you're fucked if you lose.
  4. Well, I don't buy that players can turn performance on and off like a faucet. I think that last year was the result of management that knew his strengths and played to them.

    Anyone Else

    I'm a Philly fan. We haven't won a damn thing since 1983.
  6. Anyone else think David Ortiz is hugely overrated? He destroys right handers, but against lefties he hit .216/.260/.414.
  7. Just an illusion with the home runs. I quick glance at my statbook indicates a rate of one HR every 10 IP, which is normal.
  8. I really think last year was an abboration. He still struck out twice as many batters as he walked. He just gave up an unusually high number of hits. Given Jeter's, Soriano's, and Bernie's defense, its possible the defense contributed largly to Weaver's woes.
  9. Nah. If I'm Weaver, I thank the gods I'm going to Los Angeles, with their players who can play defense, and their ballpark. I'm going on a limb and predicting a sub-4.00 ERA for Weaver next season.
  10. He's still just as good or better. There. Just to crush your happiness. Hell, he IS better than Kobe Bryant. And he isn't on trial for rape, either.
  11. The games weren't bad, but I couldn't shake the feeling I was watching second rate teams. The Mets were only there because the Cardinals pitching staff collapsed historically.
  12. We saw Yankees/Mets. It sucked.
  13. Yankees/Sox is obvious, along with Cardinals/Cubs, and Dodgers/Giants.
  14. I imagine they'd move him to 2B. I don't see it making sense from the Red Sox side however. Rollins is a damned good defensive shortstop. Moving him neutralizes his greatest asset.
  15. What about Jerry Colangelo?
  16. First I've seen the rumor, but I'm not throwing stuff around the room, yet. It wouldn't be historically bad in any way, as Garciaparra can hit, and its easier to find a quality right fielder. Personally, I think the trade is unnecessary more than anything. I stand by my position that Abreu is hugely under-appreciated. I'd like to go back to the Dan Plesac retirement for a moment. Few people will make a HOF case for Plesac, and I wouldn't vote him in myself. Still, most people don't realize how good Plesac was. His K/9 IP rate is better than any other reliever in baseball history, and 8th best of all time. Plesac struck out batters more frequently than Roger Clemens. In any case, Plesac gave the Phillies a heck of a final season. Enjoy your retirement.
  17. I'd say Redding is a better rotation bet than Robertson. Kirk Saarloos is also a contender for a rotation slot.
  18. Even without Greg Maddux, its not out of the question. It could happen if a couple of their starters take big steps forward this season. They certainly have the hitting.
  19. If they were trying to win that might matter...but...like the Brewers they don't care if they win or not. They clearly do care, as they haven't given anyone away, and they're trying to lure free agents. They've just been HORRIBLY mismanaged the last decade.
  20. Re: The Vina signing. BAD, bad move for the Detroit Tigers. Seriously, Vina had a WORSE OPS than the guy (Warren Morris) who manned second for the Tigers last season! Vina only played 61 games last year, he's injury prone, and he's 35. He's a gamer, but he's not going to help the Tigers win a damned thing next year.
  21. Also, Royals signed Matt Stairs for a cool million. Nice signing there. Stairs crushes right handed pitching. Platoon him with Ken Harvey, and suddenly your DH slot is producing David Ortiz numbers.
  22. Considering the Royals best option was Mike Tonis, who didn't tear up AA, I can't say anything bad about the Santiago signing. Santiago is a huge upgrade over Brent Mayne.
  23. The problem I see with that system is that you could have the 8th best team in the country winning the national championship. That is more undesirable, IMO, than the current BCS situation.
  24. I think the Citizen Kane and Casablanca dvds have shown you don't necessarily need the principal characters around to make a good set. Just the restored movies would suffice, along with a documentary of some sort. The same kind of things they used for the Chaplin dvds.
  25. You have to remember that the Phillies cleared $14 million in payroll by losing Mesa, Mike Williams, Turk Wendell, and Terry Adams. With Milton, Wagner, and Worrell, they add about $8 million. Millwood got $9.9 million last year, and I don't think that will increase significantly.
