  1. Mets are three outs away from taking the division lead, but the Phils have scored a run but still have the bases loaded with none out. Jose Reyes tried to make a double play he shouldn't have.
  2. http://survey.wwe.com/starrcade/ The 25 greatest Starrcade matches, all airing in November? Damn straight. My picks 1983-88 Ric Flair vs. Harley Race Roddy Piper vs. Greg Valentine Magnum T.A. vs. Tully Blanchard Rock n Roll Express vs. Ole & Arn Anderson Ric Flair vs. Lex Luger 1989-94 Doom vs. Arn Anderson & Barry Windham Sting & Abdullah the Butcher vs. Bobby Eaton & Brian Pillman Rick Steamboat & Shane Douglas vs. Brian Pillman & Barry Windham Sting vs. Vader Ric Flair vs. Vader 1995-2000 Eddie Guerrero vs. Shinjiro Ohtani Sting vs. Randy Savage vs. Ric Flair Dean Malenko vs. Ultimo Dragon Hollywood Hogan vs. Sting Shannon Moore/Shane Helms vs. Jung Dragons vs. Jamie Noble/Evan Karagias
  3. The Astros only gave up Chad Reineke in exchange for Randy Wolf. Reineke's nothing, a 26 year old in AAA is going to become a reliever at best. Wolf's only under contract for this season, and at two months that works out to about $2 million in salary, not an albatross. If he leaves, Houston should get a supplemental pick in return, as Viva noted. I like this deal. Houston makes themselves a bit more respectable and they hardly cost themselves anything in the future. They're not playoff contenders, but why not make a small move to avoid sliding? I'm honestly surprised no team offered more for Wolf.
  4. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwgu2I2p6ms Tony Pena Jr. on the mound. Watch this while you can, Pena's throwing 88-91 from a hair above sidearm, with a breaking pitch for strikes!
  5. The Cubs have the best record in the NL. They lead the league in runs scored, they are second in least runs allowed. They have the best run differential in the Majors. And to miss the playoffs, they have to fall behind TWO teams. They're fine.
  6. Giants select starting pitcher Urban Shocker.
  7. Giants select LHRP Steve Hamilton.
  8. 161st and River selects 1B Wally Pipp and SP Jack Chesbro
  9. He's third. Charlie Stecher and Hayden Penn have him beat.
  10. Brooklyn Zoo is up with two picks due.
  11. Giants select right fielder Bob Meusel.
  12. Giants select manager Miller Huggins
  13. Yeah, I know. I need some bas relief. And I'm not as bad as Marvin! I go days without posting about the team I have to like! Cut me some slack, AK-47. It's just that frothing at the mouth about the other team and their fans. I don't even get that bad with the Yankees.
  14. Bored is free to make his next pick. I'm going to try and put the teams into a simulator after the draft. No promises on that, but if I do I'll have more details to come. I'd like to add a 22nd round. This round will be simply relief pitchers, adding one to each team. To fill out four more spaces if I do run a season, I'm going to select the 12 position players and the 12 pitchers with the most games not yet drafted, and add them randomly to each team. This will fill 25 man rosters, and ensure that no true Yankee © is left behind. Edit: One exception, I will not assign Hal Chase to any team.
  15. Czech's getting as bas as Marvin. Geez, man. And the Marlins (remember them?) are a half-game back. What a division. I feel bad for the Marlins come Tuesday. No matter what happens, they can not gain on first place.
  16. Final in New York, Mets win and tie the NL East with the Phils. Both teams open up a three game set on Tuesday.
  17. Something I'm surprised Marvin hasn't brought up yet. O's pitching prospect Adam Loewen sustained another arm injury. Surgery would cost Loewen 18 months, so instead he's taking a shot at becoming a position player. Loewen has only batted twice professionally and is a longshot. Still, can't help but root for him.
  18. Hard to believe the A's would let him go that easily. Ford's an interesting prospect though. 100% pure speed.
  19. Nice to see Casey Stengel and Gene Woodling together again. Stengel batting Woodling all over the batting order. Sometimes cleanup, sometimes sixth, even leadoff!
  20. Road Warrior Animal related a story on their dvd about refusing to job to the Freebirds in the AWA. I forget the venue.
  21. PM'ed picks from 161st and River. 3B Clete Boyer RP Jeff Nelson
  22. Giants select closer Johnny Murphy. Murphy was the Yankees' first long term relief specialist, collecting 104 saves with the club and attending three All-Star games.
  23. Giants select SP Carl Mays.
  24. Comcast runs a Philly moments commercial, narrated by Harry Kalas. Apparently Johnny Callison came to the plate in the 1964 All-Star game with his team trailing by a run, and hit a home run to give the NL a 6-3 win. Except that the game was tied, and it was a 7-4 win. How hard is it to get the details on something like this?
  25. 161st and River PM'ed me a list of 11 picks, hopefully that holds up. If he runs out of names available, I will select players for him as best I can.
