  1. Rocks and Toys in the Attic are both fantastic, but otherwise go nuts. Aerosmith became a shit band post-1977.
  2. Oh, maybe it was. You mean the nominations he didn't even use? I've definitely posted too much already, feigning an outrage I don't really have, but opening up a "nominations" round, then disregarding the whole thing and starting a new tourney should open one up to criticism, no? You have to cast a large net to grab the whole decade, but c'mon.
  3. No, no, no. That was our boy, Twisted Intestine. I would never dream of running a tournament like this. Not only do I lack the patience or insight to organize it, I don't think that I have thick enough skin to handle to endless remarks that would inevitable come from jerks like me.
  4. I appreciate your concern, Cheech. I really really really really really do. But in compiling this list, I'm put in the uncomfortable position of being all things to all people, y'know? If I put in all of these fairly well known but not mainstream popular indie rock songs, I'm an elitist. BUTT is all over my ass. If I represent a lot of fringey hip hop stuff, you and Byron the Bulb are happy but that shit is losing to Hootie and the Blowfish by 15 votes. This British guy is on a completely different plane. Who knows what the British listened to in the 1990s? Not a fucking clue. The basic point is that I had 128 slots to represent every fucking song that was released in an entire ten year period, so of course some of your favorite songs are going to be left out. Get a fucking clue, all of you. Jesus Christ, why did I ever volunteer for this. What a fucking thankless exercise. I hope you all die of a painful communicable disease. See you next round. You know I love you Kinetic and I don't envy the position you are in running this tournament. Not only is it a thankless endeavor, but the song choices are never going to please everybody. That being said, the list is odd in a populist sort of way. You are running a tourney for TSM; we are the only ones voting. You don't have to make sure to have a song here to satisfy my uncle and the girl that works the deli counter at Safeway (my uncle loved "Life Is A Highway" by the way). I have a hard time taking a 90s list seriously that doesn't somehow incorporate "Hypnotize" or "Enter Sandman." Those songs were the 90s. So, yes my opinion counts for dog shit here (and everyone else's does, too, seeing the few crossovers from the nominations thread to here), but don't act like you're acting in everyone's best interests. No one fucking listens to Bryan Adams or Marc Cohn. Please. Just call this what it is: The Super Secret Board for Jerks Presents Their Favorite Songs of the 90s.
  5. College basketball has the coolest gimmick in the world: the NCAA tournament. We all love filling out brackets and shelling out $20 to get our ass kicked by the girl in accounting, but let's not confuse that with what is happening on the court. College basketball is inferior in every way to the pro game and trying to argue differently just looks ridiculous. It's minor league ball, and it's not particularly good minor league ball.
  6. Julius Peppers is awesome, but he's a terrible fit for that defensive scheme in New England. Given what they are giving up, in terms of money and picks, makes me think this isn't the slam dunk some think it is. But, whatever, Belichick forgot more about football during breakfast than I'll ever know.
  7. I was grouchy! I don't like any of these songs. Truthfully, I had a fairly narrow musical focus in high school. I was mostly listening to rap at the time because I was hanging out with black kids and guys who wished they were black. Like I said in the nominations thread, I'm just not nostalgic for this stuff yet. It all feels really dated. Maybe in ten years I'll come around. EDIT: Now that I think about it, where are all the good 90s rap songs? "C.R.E.A.M.", "I Get Around", "Can't Nobody Hold Me Down", "Juicy", "Shook Ones", "NY State of Mind", "T.R.O.Y", "Tha Crossroads", "I Used to Love H.E.R.", "Still Not A Player", "Ruff Ryders Anthem", etc. The list above is all middle-of-the-dial FM bullshit and peculiar one-off hits from bands that faded into oblivion. Hip hop more or less dominated the latter half of that decade and it's severely underrepresented as a genre. EDIT #2: Now that I am putting more and more thought into this, nothing from Alice In Chains or Metallica? What about Rage Against the Machine? NIN? Marilyn Manson? Maybe I'm being overly analytical and harsh here, but I grew up in the 90s just like the rest of you and I don't remember anyone listening to half of the stuff listed above. Yes, those were all radio hits back then, but is anyone really throwing them on a list of their favorite songs?
  8. Veruca Salt- "Seether" Salt-N-Pepa- "Whatta Man" - Salt n Pepa were fun for what they were. I had never heard that Veruca Salt song before today. Backstreet Boys- "I Want It That Way" Beck- "Loser" - BSB were the bane of my existence in high school. Paula Cole- "I Don't Want To Wait" Montell Jordan- "This Is How We Do It" - One of the first CDs I ever owned. Classic. Everything But The Girl- "Missing" Goo Goo Dolls- "Iris" - Eh, coin flip. Hanson- "Mmmbop" The Breeders- "Cannonball" - Sorry, Inc, Hanson is awful. Chris Isaak- "Wicked Game" Snoop Doggy Dogg- "Gin and Juice" - Fun video for Isaak, but Snoop is the easy choice. Jewel- "Who Will Save Your Soul" Kris Kross- "Jump" - Today, I prefer the Jewel song. This is a pure nostalgia pick. Eve 6- "Inside Out" Deee-Lite- "Groove Is In The Heart" - Ooh, I forgot all about this song. I'm going to go listen to it now! Sarah McLachlan- "Building a Mystery" Jamiroquai- "Virtual Insanity" - Don't care for either. Jamiroquai had a neat video. Warren G. (feat. Nate Dogg)- "Regulate" - TSMers! Mount up! Ricky Martin- "Livin La Vida Loca" Sixpence None The Richer- "Kiss Me" Notorious B.I.G. (feat. Puff Daddy and Mace)- "Mo Money Mo Problems" - Fun song. Those plastic shiny suits are the 90s! Christina Aguilera- "Genie In A Bottle" L.L. Cool J- "Mama Said Knock You Out" - Despised Aguilera with every ounce of my being. Boyz II Men- "End Of The Road" Fiona Apple- "Criminal" - Boyz bore me to tears. Toni Braxton- "You Mean The World To Me" Weezer- "Buddy Holly" - This song is catchy. Mariah Carey- "Dreamlover" U2- "One" - Whatever. 'N Sync- "Tearin' Up My Heart" Jay Z- "Can I Get A..."[/color] - Nothing redeemable about N Sync. Nirvana- "Smells Like Teen Spirit" Nirvana- "Heart Shaped Box" - Smells... may be my least favorite Nirvana song. Blink 182- "Dammit" - I was hoping I'd never have to think about Blink 182 again. Blink 182- "All The Small Things" Blur- "Song 2" - Don't care. Blur- "Girls and Boys" Stone Temple Pilots- "Plush" Stone Temple Pilots- "Interstate Love Song" - The lesser of two evils. Smashing Pumpkins- "Today" - Coin flip. Smashing Pumpkins- "1979" Seal- "Crazy" Seal- "Kiss From A Rose" - Totally indifferent. The Cranberries- "Dreams" The Cranberries- "Linger" - Ugh... a string of utter garbage. No Doubt- "Spiderwebs" No Doubt- "Don't Speak" - I sort of liked this song ten years ago. Alanis Morissette- "You Oughta Know" - Dave Coulier is a bad ass mofo. Alanis Morissette- "Ironic" Green Day- "Basket Case" Green Day- "Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)" - Less offensive. Oasis- "Wonderwall" Oasis- "Champagne Supernova" - Like both of these. It was a tough call. R.E.M.- "Losing My Religion" - Less whiny that its competitor. R.E.M.- "Everybody Hurts" Chumbawumba- "Tubthumping" Meredith Brooks- "Bitch" - Oh god, Chumbawumba was the worst. Tom Cochrane- "Life Is A Highway" Bush- "Glycerine" - That Cochrane song gives me nightmares. Toad the Wet Sprocket- "All I Want" Third Eye Blind- "Semi-Charmed Life" - Both garbage. Black Crowes- "Jealous Again" Blind Melon- "No Rain" - Finally, two good songs and they are matched up against one another? Bee suit for the win. Aerosmith- "Cryin'" - Terrible Aerosmith; this is a vote against all things TLC. TLC- "Waterfalls" En Vogue- "My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It)" Soundgarden- "Black Hole Sun" - I wish Cornell would go back to making good music. MC Hammer- "U Can't Touch This" Vanilla Ice- "Ice Ice Baby" - Ice's hook was better. Skee-Lo- "I Wish" - I wish there were better songs to choose from. Spacehog- "In The Meantime" Salt-N-Pepa- "Shoop" Naughty By Nature- "O.P.P." - My sister played "Shoop" until my head hurt. DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince- "Summertime" The Verve Pipe- "The Freshmen" - This song came out my freshmen year. Oh, awkward teenage years. Britney Spears- "...Baby One More Time" 2Pac- "California Love" - Great, great song. If this doesn't win, I lose faith in humanity. Spice Girls- "Wannabe" The Fugees- "Killing Me Softly With His Song" - Another great song. Spice Girls are trash. Dr. Dre (feat. Snoop Doggy Dogg)- "Nuthin But A G Thang" - Ok, "California Love" has some competition. Bryan Adams- "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You" Barenaked Ladies- "One Week" The Verve- "Bittersweet Symphony" - Ripped off the Stones perfectly. Better Than Ezra- "Good" Beastie Boys- "Sabotage" - Great song, even better video. The Cardigans- "Lovefool" Spin Doctors- "Two Princes" - Couldn't care less. Tracy Chapman- "Give Me One Reason" - Eh... Offspring- "Self Esteem" Eagle-Eye Cherry- "Save Tonight" Soul Asylum- "Runaway Train" - This was hokey, but I admired what they went for. Mark Cohn- "Walking In Memphis" Semisonic- "Closing Time" - I'm getting bored even thinking of these songs. Collective Soul- "Shine" Red Hot Chili Peppers- "Under The Bridge" - Now this was a great song. One of the few times I liked the Peppers. Counting Crows- "Mr. Jones" Radiohead- "Creep" - Counting Crows are annoying. Outkast- "Rosa Parks" - Easy winner, but still one of the worst songs from Aquemeni. Presidents of the United States of America- "Lump" Cracker- "Low" Pearl Jam- "Evenflow" - This I can get nostalgic for. Sheryl Crow- "All I Wanna Do" - This too! New Radicals- "You Get What You Give" Pras (ft. Maya & ODB)- "Ghetto Superstar" - Remember when OBD went through his hitmaking phase? Yep, the "it was only gonorrhea" guy was once a megastar. Joan Osborne- "One Of Us" Sinead O'Connor- "Nothing Compares 2 U" - Hated this song as a kid. Why? It's unbelievably good and O'Connor was sort of doable. Dishwalla- "Counting Blue Cars" The Divinyls- "I Touch Myself" - I Touch Myself when I read Kinetic's posts. Nada Surf- "Popular" Marcy Playground- "Sex and Candy" Faith No More- "Epic" - The fish flop is burned into my retinas. Extreme- "More Than Words" Guns N Roses- "November Rain" - Slash playing guitar next to a church in the middle of the desert... how could anyone hate this band? Arrested Development- "Tennessee" - Whatever happened to this band? Good stuff. Lisa Loeb- "Stay (I Missed You)" Everclear- "Santa Monica" Hootie and the Blowfish- "I Only Wanna Be With You" - Sorry, Czech, they just aren't that listenable. But, hell, Everclear? Harvey Danger- "Flagpole Sitta" - Slightly less offensive than Ben Folds. Ben Folds Five- "Brick" Fastball- "The Way" Garbage- "Only Happy When It Rains" - Whatevs. Gin Blossoms- "Hey Jealousy" Juvenile- "Back That Azz Up" - How did Lil Wayne end us as the star of that whole Cash Money thing? Foo Fighters- "Everlong" 4 Non Blondes- "What's Up" - Thank god, I'm done. Wow, I hate at least 110 of these songs. No wonder I was struggling to come up with nominations for this tournament: I really hate 90s music.
  9. Hope everything is okay, CC. Best wishes.
  10. So, say she has no involvement in this: who did it and why? I know that we have traces to Bobby Klimple, Bellevue, Peter Zuzima and Mechboards, but how does it all fit together? Hate to sound like I'm being a detective here, but I guess I'm at a loss as to why someone would orchestrate this whole thing. What is there to gain?
  11. Mike did some tinkering last week and it caused the exact problems that you are now reporting. I don't know why it would still be doing it. I'll ask him.
  12. I'm making a mental note to vote for Dandy in the POTY tourney in 2010 based solely on the greatness of that post.
  13. I just saw that, too. What the hell is going on? Also: I am only going to make it for a portion of Maff tonight. Could someone keep an inventory of issues discussed (if they are important) and email them to me? Thanks.
  14. http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d8...mp;confirm=true
  15. Yes, he did
  16. Pudge signed a one-year deal with the Houston Astros ($1.5 million base with $1.5 in incentives.) http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3985628
  17. Ugh... I'm so tired of her bullshit.
  18. Why don't the Chiefs send Cassel to Denver for Jay Cutler? Isn't that a win-win scenario for everyone involved?
  19. Roho/Spaceman Ross/Pong Kong/King Ping/etc. are one and the same. Harley Quinn is very good sports poster, but doesn't venture much outside of that area of the board. Czech hates him because he googles stats or something.
  20. I think they got my password this way. I didn't click any suspicious links or enter my password to snartmarks.com and they still got me. I blame the automatic sign-in. By the way, if you visited the board anytime Saturday night or Sunday morning, change your password. Mike doesn't think that they were interested in regular poster's passwords, but I feel otherwise.
  21. Put Czech and Al in the Bug Jar.
  22. 90s nostalgia already? Who are we, VH1?!
  23. Czech's beef with HarleyQuinn perplexes me. You spent ten lines pushing him over Roho? Get the fuck outta here.
  24. I watched the first ten minutes or so of that game and thought to myself: with defense this bad both teams will score 150. I wasn't that far off. What an abomination.
