  1. You know what? I love music, and I never, ever post in the Music folder. I find it impossible to crack whatever the regulars have going on there.
  2. Does anyone care about K-Rod breaking the saves record? The media seems to be giving it a lot of attention, but I certainly don't care and it doesn't seem that fans really do either. Is this something we should be celebrating, or have we come to the point where the Save itself no longer means anything? I have a hard time getting excited for Rodriguez when he is, at best, the fifth best reliever in the AL this season. Also, what does this mean for Rodriguez this offseason? Any ideas on how much money he will get? Which team will overpay for the "proven" closer?
  3. I'd be careful what you wish for when it comes to Manny. He's playing great now and having fun out in LA, but the "other Manny" still lurks. I'd advise enjoying this run and collecting the draft picks in the offseason. Manny's not the guy that you want to commit to long-term, especially with other outfield options in the organization. It should be somewhat telling that Red Sox fans don't miss him AT ALL. You're still in the honeymoon period.
  4. Or better yet, why isn't there a vagina monologue playing in every thread?
  5. Percival trying to one-up Timlin in late inning suckiness.
  6. He's TSM's own Andy Kaufman.
  7. This could be the "Thread For Comments That Don't Warrant Being In Comments That Don't Warrant Thread"
  8. What a contribution! I predict this will be far more successful that the other Comments... thread in TCS.
  9. He's better than Drew I think. I'll concede that one. Rick Sutcliffe is now saying that George Kottaras could be the starting catcher for the Sox next year. No he won't. I'd consider it an absolute long shot for him to even be the back-up. I know these guys have to fill three hours with talk, but at least do a little research. This is a guy who once ranked on top prospect lists. While he has flaws, he's still young, has power and discipline, and the IL league OPS is 20 points lower. The catching market is extremely thin, so I could see a cheap internal option ranking better than an expensive "proven" catcher of similar quality. Kevin Cash is clearly inferior and he's started 36 games. He's 23rd in the Red Sox system, behind two other catchers. The offense is good enough to hang, but there are major questions concerning his game calling and defense. I'm not giving up on him, but he has little chance of being a starter in the league next year. As far as internal options go, Dusty Brown would get the first shot. If Kottaras was even being marginally considered for that role, they wouldn't have stuck with Kevin Cash and they wouldn't have signed Dave Ross.

  11. Theo Epstein visibly mouths "what the fuck?" on that call. I agree.
  12. Did Dave O'Brien really say that Mark Kotsay is the Red Sox' best defensive outfielder? I know that defensive evaluation is still somewhat subjective, and that Kotsay was pretty nifty before the back injury, but would anyone take his current D over Crisp, Ellsbury or Drew? That's such a retarded statement.
  13. Definitely an impressive season for the Angels. They have to be the favorite to win the AL at this point. Really? Out of four teams that would make the playoffs if the season ended today, I'd consider them the least likely to win the American League. I don't want to sound like I'm discounting their season, but they strike me as a team that is constructed to be good at a lot of things, but great at nothing. That's proven to be a winning formula over the long haul, but it has had far less success in the postseason. Mark Teixeira aside, this is the same team that has essentially melted in the playoffs the last few years.
  14. There aren't many people left here that give a shit about wrestling, so good product or not, you're probably only going to find limited interest. Sorry.
  15. They call them fingers, but I've never seen them fing.
  16. If you watched last night's start you'd see why Dice-K is nowhere near Cy Young material. He basically works himself into constant jams and then gets himself out with a key strikeout or DP ball. His starts are maddening to watch at times and I still don't know how he has the record and ERA he does. Dice-K has the amazing ability (or luck) to teeter on the brink of disaster without ever letting things get out of control. It's remarkable really. When he's getting hit hard, he doesn't walk anyone. But when he's missing bats, he's missing everything, including the plate. Somehow in the end he manages to minimize the disaster, but he aways has base runners, he's always working high pitch counts and in the end, the performance doesn't match the numbers. I'm not quite sure what to make of Matsuzaka after two years. He's so frustrating to watch, but the numbers are decent. Will he finally excise his nibbling problem and become dominant? Or will the hits catch up with the walks and turn him into a below average pitcher? I have no clue.
  17. I enjoy following the Seahawks and usually go to a couple of games each year, but yes, I am a closet Raiders fan. It comes from growing up in northern California.
  18. I had no idea that there were other Raiders fans here. At least the rest of you seem to have some hope; I feel totally defeated as a fan.
  19. Smarkaholics Anonymous?
  20. Wrong, not Czech. Or Kinetic. I think this was well done. Wow, then I'm extra impressed. That "sending in my registration" line had Czech's name all over it. I wish we could have kept the joke going a little longer. This had potential.
  21. Too bad you had to go and blow his no-hitter, jinxy.
  22. Thanks a lot Jinx Keiper.
  23. Well it was going great until the story about shit on the walls. Where's the subtlety Czech?
  24. I still remember when jericholic82 said that he was a "stickler for grammar." I nearly shit myself.
