watching this show again as an adult you notice how well-written the parents are. the episode where mom tries to be a substitute teacher and kevin fucks it up, and she has to shrug the whole thing off like it wasn't that important...that is almost painful to watch.

Look, if you must know the girl had to spend about half an hour talking me into it telling me she loved me, and after I finally let her pee in my mouth I cried afterwards because I still felt used and humiliated. so anyway, i enjoyed the hell out of this movie. lots of fun, and pretty genuinely creepy in a way that reminds you of when you were a little kid alone in your room at night.

since the last whenever: r.e.m. - 'up'...lacks a strong batch of songs, but i do like the overall sound of the album as a rainy day mood piece thingy. not the failed piece of shit i thought it was going to be. only major criticism is it goes on way too long. it does seem like something i'll probably get bored with in 2 or 3 months though. afghan whigs - '1965'...i think the "lacks a strong batch of songs..." sentence i just typed applies pretty well to the whigs' entire catalog. works nicely and forgettably. matthew sweet - 'girlfriend'...not a huge fan of his, but i like the fuzzy jangle sound he has and this gave me more or less exactly what i was expecting, with some nice steel guitar thrown in. dinosaur jr - 'green mind'...i'd really like to get behind these guys as fast and powerful and rocking, but i can't get over how lazy and disinterested mascis's voice sounds. he sounds like somebody lying hungover on his bathroom floor calling in sick to work. blur - 'modern life is rubbish'...very very solid. liked it right away, and it sounds like something i'll grow to like a lot more.

about 10 or so pages into antoine de saint-exupery's 'night flight'. nothing's happened yet and i'm already hooked just because the descriptions are so great. based on that, and on the fact that 'the little prince' is my probably favorite book in the world, i have very high hopes for this.

this girl was born at the wrong time, she should have been famous in the late 60s when warhol had his factory going. her behavior and persona alone would be enough to get immortalized in canvas form like chairman mao & marilyn monroe. as it stands, this is just going to keep getting better. two years from now she's going to die in the most glorious way imaginable, the likes of which we've never seen before. like, get shot in the head 33 times in broad daylight by her cocaine dealer, or set her car on fire and drive it off the brooklyn bridge. and 3 years later when the general audience has had enough of hearing about her & realizes she wasn't even in any really good movies, she's going to become an underground hero. hipsters all over new york city will start wearing silkscreens of her knife pictures, with the word "playtime" or "fate" underneath, movie cults will have midnight showings of 'the parent trap', and a whole generation of drag queens will be inspired by her.

i doubt anyone will agree with me on this, but i think phoenix's biggest problem, apart from the rotation, is relying on nash's playmaking ability too much. he's taken such a position of leadership that nobody else is really confident handling the ball in a half-court situation. barbosa has problems driving to the basket once the defense is set; diaw's assertiveness is inconsistent. so nash is doing about 80 percent of the work on any given play, doing things to his body no one should have to do. i read something by bill russell that passing the ball is everything, and even though the suns have nash, the spurs won because they have 4-5 guys who pass the ball well. the spurs' offense runs through duncan but not even duncan has to do THAT much work, he can put a significant amount of trust in his teammates to create their own shot.

one of the gallagher brothers had a similar story about how 'what's the story morning glory' got such an awful title.

the suns won't win a championship without some changes in the coaching philosophy, their system is too fragile. all the weaknesses got exposed in game 5. d'antoni's rotations just wear out his players too much, especially nash.
