    Dilemma Time for Dogbert

Okay, some background: I'm in my first year of studies at the University of Ottawa, working towards a bachelor's degree in political science. I've also got a $5000/year scholarship that I'm pretty much resigned to losing, thanks to some bell-curving shenanigans pulled by one of my first-semester profs. Here's the thing: I've been doing some soul-searching over the last few months, and I've figured out that political science is not what I want to do with the rest of my life. I'm really not passionate at all about what my profs are teaching me, to the point that I can hardly force myself to do the work they assign; I feel like I've wasted six months of my life on this stuff, and I don't want to throw away any more of it; furthermore, I've found a career path that really interests and stimulates me, and I think I'd enjoy this new idea a lot more than what I'm in. On the other hand, I've never been one to give up on something, and I feel like I'd be letting everyone down if I didn't keep learning this garbage. Should I give up on political science and pursue the path that I want to take, or remain in Ottawa and stay the course? EDIT: Sorry, Matt. I hadn't noticed that I didn't specify what I wanted to do. I want to go into broadcast-journalism; the advantage of that is that Ryerson in Toronto specializes in that field, and my family is moving there from Calgary in the summer.

    World Baseball Classic

I was kind of cheering for the South Africans there... but then Canada came back, and now I don't really give a shit again.

Bonds, steroids, you know the drill

Should we really be surprised at the revelation that a resident of San Francisco takes it in the ass?

Well, now they are... I wouldn't be surprised to see both Chara and Redden command upwards of $6-million now. McCabe will also want close to that.

    Dilemma Time for Dogbert

Good luck. Just about every sports fan dreams of being a PBP broadcaster at one point in their life (for me it was during my 11th-12th grade of high school). Are you interested in any other areas of the field or just that? Sure. The PBP thing is the ultimate goal, but anything in that line of work would be excellent.

    Dilemma Time for Dogbert

There was a lot of pressure from peers and family members to go into university right away. I was in advanced HS classes, and I guess I wanted to keep up with the Joneses. Besides, politics were something I was good at and knew about, and I thought that meant I'd like it. It was a dumb reason to make that decision, and I guess it's costing me now (which is why I'm leaning towards taking next year off to earn the money my family spent on this year back).

My dream is to do PBP for a professional team, preferably hockey.

Was anyone else disgusted with how the Lightning played that game? It's like having an entire team full of Matthew Barnabys.

I'll bet that the NBC people don't jizz in their boxers over the one that actually did live up to the hype.

Good: Doan, Draper, Smyth, Blake, Brodeur Bad: Everyone not mentioned above and below Awful: Pronger, Bertuzzi, Thornton, Nash, McCabe

Maybe I'm biased, but I thought the whole Iginla - Sakic - Heatley line was great today. If the rest of the team had played as well as that line did today, then we might not be talking about this right now. Thornton, Nash, Foote, Bertuzzi, and Pronger were absolutely horrendous today.

    New Dave Barry Book

I went to Chapters today, and was dumbfounded to see "Dave Barry's Money Secrets" on the racks. I thought he'd retired. I got through about half of it, and it's obvious that he hasn't lost his form one bit. Funniest thing I've read in a long time. I'd recommend it to anyone.

  14. I am spending my Valentine's Day wandering around the Ottawa-U campus, singing pop songs that have been arranged into three-part harmony to anyone who paid $2 to have us show up. If that doesn't scream "dork," then I'm deaf.

Annnnnnnnnnnnnd Wotherspoon fucks up again. For being one of the best speed-skaters in the planet, Wotherspoon sure makes a habit of choking when it matters. Where are you, Catriona LeMay Doan...

    Who's more fabulous than Kanyon?

That's deeper than a lot of wrestling angles tend to go. So, of course, McMahon will hire him back and force him to prance down to ringside in a tutu.

One and Only RAW Thread 2-13-06

That wasn't a bad match, considering the participants. The spot they did post-match, while not the most amazing thing we've ever seen, was something that they don't use often (if ever).

    Quick Pat Robertson question.

naw. Saxby Chambliss. Calgary once had a mayor named Al Duerr, then had a Bev Longstaff finish second to Dave Bronconnier in the election following the end of Duerr's mandate.

    Oh, Canada

Election Day is here, and the polls are open. CTV has it at CPC 37, LPC 27 (sample 2 000, margin of error 2.0%). CPAC has it at CPC 36, LPC 30 (sample 1 500, margin of error 3.1%). Essentially, they're the same numbers.
