1. Gradual slope, I think. I was still in high school at 18, didn't have my own place, bills to pay, credit, all that.....definitely a little wiser, I'd say.
2. This is true. I'm amazed how stupid I really was when I was 18-21.
3. There's that pesky liver, though. I still picked booze. It's a bit of a balance issue, as I started blazing/drinking regularly at around 16, but was the only one of my buddies who drove for a while. Since at the time I thought driving stoned was acceptable (I've turned the corner on this), but drunk driving wasn't, I wound up doing the former far more often. So booze became more of a treat than anything. I'm smoking far less frequently now then I was six or seven years ago, but that's just a coincidence, I think. It doesn't really appeal to me. I'll occassionally smoke socially, but it's been a little more than a year since I've bought it on my own.
4. I was thinking the same thing. Alas, I had my hopes for the aforementioned Hall and Oates thread, which effectively painted me into a corner.
5. Because this runs of the risk of Tiger, Vijay, Phil, etc. of screwing up one of the opening tournaments and not getting to the next round and thus equaling poor ratings. I hate it as much as you do but you have to look at it from Finchem's perspective. Good win by Phil today at the Players, looks like working with Harmon is already paying off. However, the real test will be at the U.S. Open and if he can overcome his demons there to finally win one to add to his career resume. I guess ESPN tomorrow will be debating "Is Phil ready to challenge Tiger?!?!?!" They were already hyping it up on the Golf Channel PostGame. Sigh. Say what you will about Winged Foot, but did anyone else think Johnny Miller was getting a little carried away with the possibility of Phil stumbling and opening the door for a playoff? What did O Hair wind up shooting on the 72nd hole? I went to do my laundry after Phil hit the 18th fairway, but I did read on tsn.ca that his position dropping after 17 would up costing him a difference of $747,000.
6. no kane ran in and destroyed both of them before their macth against the Truth Commision IIRC I remember a Shotgun around that time where they were defeated by the Truth Commission. I was at the height of my markdom and was blown away by the Hardys and how good a match the two fall guys were having. I even recall a "Hardys" chant breaking out, which I thought was just unprecedented at the time.
7. Really? Most Sabres fans I know have said they anticipate Drury staying....
8. I was already tired. If Ottawa doesn't fucking win this.... MacLean just pointed out an interesting stat: Every year that ends in 7 since the inception of the NHL, the mug was won by either Detroit or a Canadian team.
9. I can't believe how aggressive Ottawa was towards the end of the third with a man down, and the empty-net. Even more so with this penalty kill....Seems to work though, Ottawa's now killed off all seven penalties tonight.
10. Who was the no good French Canadian he hated?
11. Great post. I once referred to this as my favourite Raw of all time, and it's still up there.
12. I heard Jamie Campbell say this.....as Troy Glaus limped off the field. Though mine was far more colourful, we said in unison "Oh no. Don't tell me".
13. He five-putted 10 on Saturday in 2002. I agree with Leena here. I would make a tremendous jump up my golf pool if he did win though.
14. There's been a lot of deliberation about the cutline, and if it should be changed. A couple of ideas being kicked around: * 60 and ties. * 65 and ties. * Same as now, but if the number of players playing the weekend would exceed 78, the cut line would revert to the number below 70. * 75 and ties on Friday, 60 on Saturday. I'm fine with the system now, but if they change it, I'd like to see it go to 60. I don't really like the last suggestion, and really don't like the second to last. Saturday is Moving Day, not Hope To Survive Day. And off-topic, can I get a rundown of the FedEx Cup playoffs again? What's the elimination tier? I recall it being 30 for the final in Atlanta, but that's all I can remember? Shouldn't it be more in sync with the money leaders. Should the 15 guys who make the playoffs potentially lose their cards six weeks later? That's a little silly, isn't it?
15. I think Treble is vindicated
16. Sens and Ducks, both in 6.
17. SHUT UP. I don't think I agree with that, Czech. I don't care if he writes them or not. I'm not offended or anything by them, I mean, who honestly reads them? Let him write 'em if he likes.
18. I was gonna say, there's an awful lot of them.
19. Nice sentiment, but I don't see how he could possibly follow through on that. You'll notice my restraint in saying anything negative about the Tories' platform and ideology. It is a nice idea, but I don't see any team moving, and Bettman has been pretty adamant about no further expansion.
20. I've seen a few Lance Storms now. I remember meeting the Impact Players at a meet-and-greet in 99, they both seemed pretty laid back, easy going. Jerry Lynn also seemed pretty cool, a blue-collar kind of guy. I also think Don Callis would be high on the list, he was hilarious in his role in ECW as part of the network, and he's been pretty well-travelled. I dont think any of them would quite be top 5, however.
21. I was thinking about that at work today. I think we can. They've been a perennial West winner since what, 99, 00 now? Couple trips to the conference finals and eight or nine trips to the playoffs, and now with one of the league's three or four best players on their team? Yeah we can. King had an intersting point about Marleau. I always thought he's been ridiculously underrated, with better than a point-a-game the least two seasons. The extra ice time on a 7 or 8th team would make him a legitimate superstar in my opinion.
22. Agreed. Sens in 6 btw. QFT, but I'll elabourate on the Heatley thing. This is exactly what I wrote for the paper I wrote for in college. "The Snyders have forgiven Heatley. Who are we to condemn him?" Can justice be served if no one is crying out for it? No. Have I ever met Dany Heatley? No. Am I certain he is a better person than say, Bernardo or Charles Manson, who have been well-established as cold-blooded killers? Yes. Heatley still has to live with himself knowing he killed a friend. Let him be.
23. With my genitals on the line, Apatosaurus and Brontosaurus were the same thing. It said so in a book my grandmother had (when I was 10) called The Jeopardy Challenge. Wasn't Bracchiosaurus the biggest? I suppose it could be the same thing. Edit: I hope no one wants my genitals! Wikipedia said "popularly known, though incorrectly" Double edit: The dinosaur genus originally known as Brontosaurus is now officially designated Apatosaurus. Also from Wikepdia. Let's all keep our junk.
24. I did this a STAGGERING number of times whilst drunk at the bar this weekend. Fun fact, and not to detract from Hoff, about 2 months ago, I told a girl from the office that she sounded like an elephant when she blew her nose. She proceeded to mimic my walk. Then she proceeded to walk like a (we think) closet homo we work with, who walks like a T-Rex. And it's not just the little arms. She walked with little arms, roaring noises, and a waddle! Good times. Is a T-Rex the same as an Allosaurus? The only one I remember was Apotosaurus = Brontosaurus.
