  1. So, Joe went from playing background player for Sting last month to Mr Ego himself, Jeff Jarrett, this month. How about, I don't know, making Joe the focal point of Joe's matches?
  2. My next pick is made purely for my own amusement, though he's a very underrated wrestler all the same, and would at least fill a jobber role if nothing else. My next pick is the former ICW/ICWA Tex-Akarna TV Champion... Bryan Alvarez!
  3. Why did BJ sound like someone had kneed him in the groin? His voice sounded even higher than usual.
  4. Muffy appeared on a few episodes of Smackdown to try and get the fans fit. Then, one week, she was revealed to be Stephanie's personal trainer. The character was promptly dropped when it was realized what that implied.
  5. Jesus, Russo is just obsessed with doing that storyline isn't he? He did this storyline last year in TNA's world title program! Another reason why turning Sting heel on Hogan wasn't going to get over, was because Sting's actions were very justified in my opinion. Hogan said Sting was the Hummer driver and Luger said Hogan was the Hummer driver, so Sting was confused by all of this nonsense and finally had enough at Fall Brawl 99 and beat Hogan down with a baseball bat, just in case if he was the Hummer driver. At least, thats what I think the storyline was, who knows? Russo is obsessed with swerving people to the point that whatever story is being told gets lost in maze of pointless and inane plot twists in a desperate attempt to surprise people. It's a nice idea to surprise people, but Russo never learned the difference between a surprise that's good, makes sense when you think about, and has you saying, "That was a great twist", and a surprise that's bad, makes no sense when you think about, and has you saying, "That's the dumbest thing they could have done". We could go on all day about lessons Vince Russo has never, and will never, learn.
  6. I was referring to the 'promoter' in our midst.
  7. Agreed. That first round was incredible, and might have been the best round of the night. It started the PPV on a high note. It was a decent fight, but fell very short of the 'FOTY' talk that had surrounded it. A clear win for Florian, but I don't think he looked someone who will be near a title fight anytime soon, let alone winning one. Brock massacred Herring on the ground. He just beat and beat and beat on him at will, with Herring able to do almost nothing about it. If Kongo were to face Lesnar, then Kongo would get the uckfay beaten out of him. That said, and for all the positive things you can, and should, say about Brock. we're still waiting to see how he handles getting hit with heavy punches. And how about that first punch from Lesnar, and how fast he followed up on it? I give Fitch a ton of credit for hanging in there, but he was totally outclassed, and it'll take a long time before he gets another chance at the WW title. Add to that a decent undercard, and a great KO of the 'Anvil', and UFC 87 was a great PPV and one of the best UFC shows in a long time.
  8. Uncle Cletus was Tony Anthony. He managed the Godwins for about a week at the end of 1997.
  9. HBK's guaranteed deal from the Attitude Era, which expired in 2001, was for a downside of $750,00 per year. For him to be on a downside of $364,000 per year now would mean his pay dropped 50% from that level. No matter the amount of time between that deal and his current one, HBK isn't taking that kind of pay cut, nor would Vince ask him to. There's also the fact that the idea of someone like HBK working for s $364,000 downside is absolutely laughable. Even given the nature of the 'source' of this claim.
  10. If there ever was a 10-8 round, that was it.
  11. Now that was a five-star humbling. As Rogan said, if Lesnar looks this good in just his third ever MMA fight, he could be a major force very soon. So far, this has been a great UFC, and providing the main event delivers, it could be one of the best ever.
  12. From SSS With how New Japan booking works, Kojima losing in the first round makes him a decent bet to get to the finals. Nakanishi losing to Otani was a mild surprise, but I expect Nakanishi to make up for it. I know Kawada losing has to make sense later on, but I still don't like it. Next G1 card: NJPW, 8/11/08 (Samurai! TV) Yokohama Bunka Gymnasium 1. G1 Climax Special 8 Man Tag: Riki Choshu, Masahiro Chono, Yujiro & Tetsuya Naito vs. Jado, Gedo, Tomohiro Ishii & Tomoaki Honma 2. G1 Climax Special 8 Man Tag: Yuji Nagata, Tiger Mask, Jushin Thunder Liger & AKIRA vs. Giant Bernard, Milano Collection AT, Minoru & Prince Devitt 3. G1 Climax - Block A: Wataru Inoue vs. Shinjiro Otani (ZERO1-MAX) 4. G1 Climax - Block B: Hiroyoshi Tenzan vs. Toru Yano 5. G1 Climax - Block B: Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Yutaka Yoshie (DRADITION) 6. G1 Climax - Block B: Hirooki Goto vs. Toshiaki Kawada 7. G1 Climax - Block A: Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Togi Makabe 8. G1 Climax - Block A: Manabu Nakanishi vs. Satoshi Kojima (All Japan)
  13. It probably would have been, but I have an alternate pick in mind, so I'm not worried.
  14. The countdown show was all kinds of awesome. It did a great job of building up Fitch and Huerta, and gave you a reason to want to see them. I think this is a 450,000 buy show. Speaking of which... GSP beats Fitch in round four by TKO. I think the countdown did a great job of making Fitch look like a real threat, and I think he'll be a serious challenge to GSP, but I'm still going with the champion. Huerta beats Florian by UD. I think Florian has the heart to stand the beating he's going to get, but I don't see him doing much more than that and I think he'll survive all three rounds. Either Lesnar beats Herring by pounding him into a pulp or Herring knocks Lesnar into next week and out of the UFC. I don't see this fight ending any other way, except maybe Herring taking a horrible beating for three rounds and the fight somehow not getting stopped.
  15. Straight from left field... Arik Cannon!
  16. If I have to choose between Watts and Pac, I'll keep Pac.
  17. For my announcer, I pick the man who Jim Ross studied under... Bill Watts! For my wrestler, I pick another Brit, and someone who I think can have some spectacular aerial matches with various members of my roster... Pac! I couldn't find any decent picture of Pac.
  18. I don't think anyone has believed a single claim he's made. That's the second instance of you claiming it's a waste of time here, and yet you keep coming back. Getting back to the subject of the thread... I think a HHH heel turn, while it would freshen him up, would also be very difficult to pull off. HHH is like Chris Jericho in that he's someone who the fans like and don't really want to boo, and while they can work hard enough to get the crowd to boo them, it's almost never going to be anything passionate or vociferous. It's always going to be the booing that the crowd feels like they have to do because of what the heel says rather than because they actually hate the guy. It took Jericho a while to get the crowd to really hate him, and for HHH it might take longer. It's the same with Shawn Michaels. He can play a fantastic heel, but he's too well liked and respected by the fans to get really hated. Sure, Shawn, like Jericho and, when it happens, Hunter, will be able to get the crowd to boo them, but it won't be that outright hatred that a JBL gets.
  19. When was JBL great? He had one fun brawl with Cena and that's it. I know anklelock will take back what he said about me in another thread, but JBL is someone whose ring work has always bored me The one match with Cena. Other than that, you're right; I don't think JBL has ever been great. I was trying not to be so down on the guy.
  20. Dark match R-Truth b Kenny Dykstra Smackdown Jim Ross & Tazz announcing as Mick Foley sells last week's injuries Maryse & Victoria & Natalya b Michelle McCool & Cherry & Maria. They did an Olympic feel. Natalya used the sharpshooter on Maria Bam Neely had a black rose on him. The spirit of the Undertaker is here Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder b Jimmy Wang Yang & Shannon Moore Jeff Hardy vs. MVP is official for SummerSlam Jeff Hardy b Shelton Benjamin via DQ in a long match when MVP interfered as Jeff had it won Arm wrestling match with broken glass HHH was about to put Khali's hand in the glass when Khali head-butts him and lays him out with the big squeeze and HHH had to be helped out Hawkins had a black rose on him Zack Ryder was also laid out Chavo & Vickie think Edge is responsible Vladimir Koslov b Jesse Brian Kendrick b Super Crazy Edge shows up and the Guerreros are mad at him. Edge said that have to show unity against whomever is destroying La Familia Edge, Vickie & Chavo go to the ring to call out Undertaker, but Edge turned on Chavo, and shoved Vickie out of the wheelchair F4W
  21. JBL used to be good-to-great, depending on the opponent and the stipulations, but he hasn't all that hot since his back injury. It's been painfully obvious, literally at times, that JBL isn't where he used to be.
  22. He had a good spot in All Japan and wasn't willing to give it up.
  23. No, that's been debunked several times over. Herb Kunze "Mankind hit the DDT for the pin at 16:22. HHH chaired Austin's leg to give Austin a vacation. Chyna held off the referee. Jesse & Mankind were long gone. It's no secret that they wanted Jesse to come out of this match as a babyface. That would happen if he raised a babyface's hand or if he decked a heel. That meant that if HHH won, he'd have to take a bump right afterward for Jesse, which would spoil his moment, I guess. It has also been widely reported that Austin refused to lie down for HHH and that the bookers didn't want Austin to lose the title without losing. In any case, any idiot could figure that HHH would win the title the next night on RAW because Mankind can't work any sort of schedule yet" http://rspw.org/tidbits/tidbits.990826 Hasn't a lot of what Herb has 'reported' over the years been proven to be nowhere close to accurate? I've never heard anyone reputable say that Austin refused to job to HHH. The reasons for putting Mankind in the match were both wanting Jesse to raise the hand of a babyface (not just come out as a babyface himself) and because Austin being banged up meant they wouldn't be able to have the expected great match and Mankind was put in to help carry the load.
  24. I would agree with all of that, but especially the referee comments. I felt he was way too quick to stand things up whenever Condit seemed to be in trouble. It got almost comical at times. WEC 35 was another very good show, and I'm really looking forward to Faber's title fight in September.
