  1. I'm drawing a blank as to when Jericho went over HHH during his title run. If anything HHH beat him for the belt and uber buried him in the process. I hope it is Jericho either way, he'll at least add something to the shows.
  2. I'd be more excited about Jericho returning if I didn't think he would be eating a Pedigree or an FU within 2 months of his comeback.
  3. What I mean is the first two hour show should be some slam bang show with great action and all the titles defended. Kind of a mini PPV, but not to the point where they give a heap of stuff away. Angle defending against someone, Lethal against some X guy, but I dunno what you do with Team Pacman.
  4. Orton's not getting the belt at No Mercy. If anything I think we might be in store for a lame double knockout (think Rock/Mankind) in that LMS match, then they'll do the goofy vacating the title angle. This can set up another tourney at Survivor Series, where they can fulfill the storyline you just KNOW they want to do and screw Cena on the 10th anniversary of the Montreal Screwjob. With that said, I have no idea who would screw Cena and win that match.
  5. I just now realized what it was about the Austin/Sid match that doesn't make sense to me. The part with Austin trying to help Bret. Bear in mind that Austin cost Bret the title just a couple of weeks earlier in his previous match with Sid. What was he thinking when he did that? If he simply hadn't done that then he gets to face Bret for the title at WM. And really since UT was already named #1 contender I don't see how he wouldn't just get the winner of Bret/Sid in the cage match anyway.
  6. I sorta saw that Matrix type bit but didn't pay much attention since I was changing over to the game on ESPN. It's got to be either Cyber Sunday or a Jericho ad, I'm really hoping for the Jericho ad. HHH hasn't buried him in a few years now. Raw tonight was puzzling as hell. Why did Coach suspend Orton for beating up Cena's dad? He kinda BOOKED him to do it. Shouldn't it be more like "Hey I love Randy for what he did last week, so he gets the night off."
  7. This really doesn't seem like the sort of show someone should book for their first 2 hour edition. In theory they should be expecting some new viewers, but would you really want the first thing a new viewer sees to be Dustin Rhodes in a ridiculous new gimmick kissing his pet rat? Angle should be wrestling on this show at least.
  8. That Memphis show sounds interesting, but I think I can explain that. Lawler was working for the WWF in 1994 in addition to his usual USWA stuff. The WWF used to send guys down to the USWA all the time from 1993-97 (though as it was meant to help them out, it really ended up hurting the promotion). Also, Bill Dundee was working in WCW as Sir William at that point, so I would assume he brokered the deal to bring Vader to Memphis for that show. It's more surprising to see WCW do that though, since USWA was more of a direct competitor in the same overall southern region.
  9. Yeah in Sept. 1997 Raw was doing mid 2s or so and Nitro was hovering near the 4.0 mark. It might sound strange but I don't recall much ever watching WCW in 1997. I didn't hate what they were doing, it was just that I was so compelled by Raw that I rarely changed the channel. I didn't care about ratings and all that, so it always bewildered me whenever I'd hear Schiavone say stuff like "Nitro is THE #1 wrestling show each and every week!" You know, would Austin have gotten as over without the notorious Owen match? Cause to me him coming back from a very serious neck injury was pretty inspiring stuff. It was a Faustian bargain though...in exchange for the heat it got him, it shortened his career considerably.
  10. Thing is, while Griese may not be the answer necessarily he's at least a semi competent journeyman who won't weigh the team down. But really I don't know if the Bears D is so good that Griese can just be plugged in as the "don't fuck up" caretaker QB. As long as Griese isn't out there putting up a 52.0 passer rating every week he'd be better than Grossman though.
  11. Yeah, the beer hit on Hall there was right up there with the hilarious smack on Heyman after he screwed RVD out of the title last year. Heyman's was worse though, he really took it right in the face. These Raws are fascinating though. You can tell they see some money in Austin but with the current Bret storyline his character is still such a psycho redneck asshole that it's hard to fully get behind him. That was the drawback of the Bret "pro Canada" angle, since Bret wasn't a total heel so it was difficult as a fan to know what to think of it. Austin the drunk American redneck vs. Bret the patriotic Canadian was an angle people couldn't quite wrap their heads around enough for it to translate into money. Whereas Austin the blue collar redneck who overcame injury and hostile management vs. HBK, the total douchebag, did draw. That makes for an interesting question: If Bret Hart had just gone full heel and they didn't do the Canadian part of the angle, would it have drawn better?
  12. Eastern Promises was a very good movie, but dear god that bath house scene has scarred me for life. I'm now awaiting the various trashings of Dane Cook in this thread.
  13. I'm a bit perturbed at the Colts' inability to put teams away so far. Last week they got well ahead of the Titans and let them back into it, then this week did the same with the Texans. It's still two road wins in the division though.
  14. As fun as that main event segment was from that Raw, I really don't see how it could have drawn any money. I've often thought that wrestling needs to be an issue of "We want this guy to win, we want this guy to lose." That Raw main event was wildly entertaining but it did a terrible job at hyping WM (which actually did a lower buyrate than friggin UNCENSORED that year). After that match was over it seemed like all 4 of the main event guys were a bunch of assholes not worth getting behind. Sid needed help to retain, Bret came off like a whiny pussy who couldn't win even with help, Austin was still a psychopath, and UT screwed Bret over. At WM, who were we supposed to want to win those matches?
  15. Yeah it came out in July 2004. I saw a sneak preview and then saw it again later. It was wild at the sneak preview, since it seemed like half the people from the theater went to White Castle after the movie. You kinda have to really.
  16. I want no part of Marshall. Chad Pennington kicked the crap out of U of L in a bowl in 1998, the Byron Leftwich did it again in 2002 (which was the game where John L. Smith quit at the half). They may suck now, but if U of L can give up 42 to Middle TN, anything is possible. Get this...so far U of L's division 1A opponents have scored 42, 40, and 38. Brian Brohm has to be one of the biggest fools ever in college sports for coming back this year. I thought it was a stupid move to come back for a senior year with a new coach, but I thought it would be a "we were 11-1 and now 9-3" kind of bad move. Right now we're looking at 3-9 or something horrid.
  17. Wow, congrats to UK tonight. It's obvious at this point that last week's game is going to send U of L and UK in separate directions this year. UK now should be about 8-4 on the year, and that's if they lose all the tough games they have left (SC, LSU, FL, UGA). And really the SC and UGA games are at least sorta winnable, though on the road. I'm seriously worried U of L is headed towards 2-10 this year. If we can lose to the Cuse, who on the schedule can we possibly beat? Maybe NC St. but that's about it.
  18. I actually think Luger would have jobbed the belt back to Yoko shortly after Survivor Series on Raw, something like that. Then they would do the same stuff that they did anyway. In fact I dare anyone to tell me why something like that wasn't done. As far as Douglas goes, his 1996-99 stint in ECW was largely crap. It's odd saying this as he did win the TV belt and the world title, but his matches mostly sucked and he was hurt for nearly all of 1998. By 1997 they had guys like RVD stepping up and along with Sabu, Taz, Dreamer, Sandman I think the company was still in solid shape. Solid for ECW anyway.
  19. Muta was more of the evil foreigner though, the type that did devious stuff like spit mist at someone. Macias is supposed to be this Kane/Mankind type of heel monster character but the dude isn't right for that gimmick. He's like Vampiro or something. In fact if he does feud with Sting that's about what it would be like, that Vampire feud. Human Torch match anyone?
  20. While U of L did lose Akoye on the D line, there's something else going on here. Petrino basically took all the coaching staff with him to ATL, and I heard something like we've now got former special teams coaches running the defensive line. Stuff like that. The past 4 games have essentially erased 5 years worth of building.
  21. Iggy, do you want me to start FireSteveKragthorpe.com? This is just fucking embarrassing. At this point I'm trying to figure out where the wins are going to come from the rest of the season. Syracuse was easily the worst opponent we had left.....hell the line was like 37 1/2 or something! Seriously, Tom Jurich needs to just admit he fucked up and fire everyone right now. We lost a few guys off the defense, but nothing to explain THIS shit. I honestly wonder if some guys on the team haven't already quit on the season.
  22. I have no idea but I'll cringe if it involves new GM Vicki Guerrero at all. Maybe it will let JBL become the new GM, who knows. The bit with Patterson and Brisco staying after the other guys left with the Godfather was hysterical. What the hell, I enjoy goofy sports entertainment stuff when it's actually funny.
  23. What I've never understood is this: What was HBK supposed to do at that WM if Austin and Bret had the WWF title match? I don't think a 3 way would have had the same impact.
  24. Well there was a blowoff to the Austin vs. Harts feud but it wasn't Bret that Austin beat. I'd say it was blown off at Survivor Series 1997 with Austin basically squashing Owen. But I don't recall Austin ever getting a win over Bret via pin or submission. Remember what I mentioned about Bret not putting many people over in the other thread?
  25. Get this. Western KY beat Middle Tennessee tonight 20-17. Yep, the same guys that scored 42 on U of L got 17 on the mighty Hilltoppers. Middle TN has now scored 14, 17, 0, and 42 in their games this year. Gotta love U of L's mighty defense.
