  1. I'm glad someone else mentioned the RVD ECW TV title run ending due to his broken leg in April 2000. Not only did the TV belt never recover, I think that was actually the death knell on ECW itself. From there it was Mike Awesome jumping ship with the belt and no RVD there for him to job it to on the way out. The main difference with Cena though is that RVD was very over with the TV title and if fans were tired of his reign it was mainly because it was simply time for him to drop it and win the world title. Why do I get this demented feeling they might put the belt on Umaga? They probably don't want to piss away a HHH title win on a nothing PPV with zero build. And if they wanted Orton as champ, he would have it by now. The last time they had to panic and put a title on someone, they put it on Khali, so there is some precedent for this sort of thing.
  2. I'll take: Cubs over Diamondbacks Rockies over Phillies Red Sox over Angels Indians over Yankees I'm intrigued at the idea of Cubs vs. Indians in the World Series.
  3. Ah, but who on the Phillies is going to be their Jeff Weaver, the career bum who comes out of nowhere and goes out of his mind in the playoffs?
  4. Yeah I quite liked Red's early TNA work, but then I prefer that early TNA stuff in Nashville to the prepackaged Orlando stuff complete with the douchebag crowd.
  5. Well, it was just a matter of time before this happened. I did find the finish of that match really bizarre last night, it was like Kennedy just sorta tapped without any struggle.
  6. I'm pretty sure The Rundown was also #1 in its opening week.
  7. Thus far I have to question the whole accepted theory that the AFC is vastly better than the NFC. I'm not sure I see it at this point in the season. All I'm seeing in the AFC are the Colts and Patriots with maybe the Steelers in there as a distant 3rd. The Chargers have tanked, Ravens are aging (last year might have been their last shot), and no one else has really been too amazing. I don't know if the NFC has anyone good enough to actually win the Super Bowl, but they do have the Cowboys and Packers at 4-0, Seahawks are solid again, Detroit is much improved, and Tampa Bay has been pretty good although they lost Cadillac Williams. Really the NFC has had several teams step up while only 2 have performed well under expectations (Saints, Bears), while the AFC has had the Chargers and maybe Ravens under perform without much of anyone filling the void.
  8. To be honest none of the guys in that Reverse Battle Royal are even serious title contenders, at least not to me. Shouldn't Christian vs. Joe be the #1 contender match since those guys are actually upper echelon?
  9. There is a bit of a difference there. HHH and Austin were honing their gimmicks back when far fewer people were watching wrestling compared to Jericho's WWF run. Also, HHH and Austin were hardly out there jobbing constantly. Hell, people talk about HHH being in the hog pen match but at least he won the hog pen match. That said, Jericho can certainly carve out a new niche for himself as long as he is presented as a top guy and isn't out there jobbing constantly. Fans are desperate and really want him to get over.
  10. I wonder if Jim Ross will call Jericho "Benoit" a bunch of times by accident like he used to do in the past?
  11. Bob, an interesting spin off of that would be this: Which series was worse in 1994 between the World Series and the NBA Finals?
  12. The 2005 easily. I'd rather have no series at all than that series. As a matter of fact I'd probably take the phantom 1994 series over any WS from 2003 to now.
  13. I recall that curious SD US title match from 2004 as well. In fact there was something so cool there that they never really delved into at all. Around the time of that match I recall an angle on SD where RVD basically flipped out and kicked Cena right in the face during a face off. It was really interesting and seemed to be showing a more edgy tweener side of RVD, but of course he was getting buried at that point so they didn't really follow it. At least not for another two years.
  14. On a PWInsider hotline a while back they discussed Red and he's basically out of wrestling right now and working as a janitor at a NYC school. At least until he can hopefully heal up and all.
  15. I don't think the actual voting itself is fixed but they weigh the options so obviously in one way that people can't help but vote for what WWE wants. The one exception is the Matt Hardy deal but WWE was just foolish there to think JBL would win over him.
  16. As a big Bulldog fan I can tell you I loathe that fucking Rumble finish from 1995 so bad. I'd burn the tape if I could, that's how bad I hate that finish. Even if it wasn't my then favorite wrestler getting screwed over it's still a stupid finish. 1. Why wouldn't he stand there and make sure Shawn was totally eliminated? 2. Why would they play his ring music as though he had won? By doing that he thus thought the match was actually over.
  17. Well it's my favorite match ever so I'll mention Bret vs. Bulldog from SS 92. Bret gets Davey Boy in the Sharpshooter and the crowd gasps, since this being 1992 people hardly ever escaped from a finisher. Bulldog does make the ropes for the break. Soon after Bret goes into the ropes, tries the sunset flip, but Bulldog sits down on him and folds Brets legs into an impossible to break package. 1-2-3. As far as Macho/Warrior goes, I love that match but is the actual finish that great? The stuff leading to it rules like nothing else, but the finish is really just Warrior shoulder blocking Savage a bunch and putting a foot on his chest.
  18. No one has mentioned the stupidest aspect of this entire storyline: The notion that this will be a Mexican variation on Austin/McMahon with Rey and VICKI?? What is any of this going to lead to that could possibly be decent? I doubt anyone wants to see Rey finally get his hands on Vicki and bitchslap her. And frankly considering Rey's exploiting of Eddie to get himself over I fail to see how Vicki is in the wrong here.
  19. Oregon can't really be in the top 5. I know they lost to a really solid Cal team, but it was still at home in a game where they were favored. I'd leave them roughly where they are right now.
  20. I know Rutgers embarrassed themselves but I still would take them in NJ over USF. USF is really roughly a 9-3 caliber team, there's just too many holes in their game for them to run the table. I wouldn't be too shocked if Central FL beat them in a couple of weeks or at least gives them a serious game. It sorta sickens me that there will be two Big 10 teams in the top 5 due to all this though. I don't think OSU or Wisconsin are really any good (Wisc. in particular struggles seemingly on a weekly basis). I figure OSU takes out Wisconsin and maybe Michigan screws OSU like they seem to in these situations. I never thought I'd ever see UK be the 2nd highest ranked team in the SEC. Of course they have SC, FL, and LSU coming up, so it won't last.
  21. You know what's sad? After what I've seen the past 2 days I don't think U of L is really out of it in the Big East. WVU and Rutgers both got exposed, and even though U of L has basically sucked this year I'm not really living in fear of USF, UConn, or Cincy.
  22. Check out www.realtimerpi.com. Big East is the #2 rated conference behind only the SEC. What are all these leagues that are so much better?

    Oasis

Oasis are a mainly UK phenomenon. They have had some success in the States, but mostly their first two albums. In Britain though it seems like they have been just massively popular. I do second the notion that Noel Gallagher is a better singer than Liam. Their best song in my opinion is Don't Look Back in Anger with Noel singing. Anyway just pick up What's the Story Morning Glory and that should suffice.
  24. I mostly am referring to her goofy voodoo chick gimmick, it's bush league and seems like something out of a low rent indie fed. Having her go over actual established women like Gail Kim or Jackie makes them look like a joke rather than making Roxxie look good.
  25. Let me explain what I meant earlier. Yes, Jericho was quite popular in 2000-01, but at the end of the day he was that guy who never could win the big one. And when he finally did he was treated like a jobber. His popularity was fine, but his credibility never recovered from that initial lousy first 6 months.
