The amazing thing is that they have wasted copious amounts of TV time on a storyline that had the payoff of a midget being the surprise. I don't get WWE's fascination with doing angles that can't really lead to anything involving a PPV match that would draw money.
-
Well, Goldberg going through a bunch of guys was a decent idea, but he lost the career match in Jan. 2001 so they really didn't do much with it. Call me crazy but I've always thought there was the seed of a decent idea in that Goldberg angle where he had to repeat the streak. It keeps him away from the title for a long time, it would have built suspense as he got nearer the mark and various heels try to cost him a match, and it would have set up a mega showdown with Steiner.
-
Why do I have the feeling already that at the PPV Matt Morgan will turn on Joe and cost him that match, then Morgan will join Christian's stable? This IS Russo we're talking about here, after all. Or maybe Morgan will play the Sid role for now and be a fair enforcer, and then turn later.
-
The Magnificent Seven was a good angle? They sucked. It was a haphazard array of various guys with zilch in common. Why would Flair have Animal in his faction and so on? That said WCW did show signs of decency near the end. I suppose the Sullivan era of early 2000 was worst, yet by then I don't think anyone cared enough to really be angry. I'd say the Nash era of mid 1999 was more frustrating and horrid to watch.

Corkscrew, you are thinking of a different match. In fact that was the previous week where RVD/Lynn faced off at Hammerstein and the run in happened with the Impact Players. The rematch of that is what I am talking about, which was back at the ECW Arena. Impact Players attacked Lynn before the match (in reality Lynn had fallen stomach first onto a tack at Hammerstein, hence the taped ribs). Most of RVD's offense centered on hitting the rib area anyway, so it gave the match added psychology....at one point RVD puts Lynn through a table and Lynn had to be taken away to the back. But wait! He refused to go back and comes back to the ring to continue...crowd goes nuts! Eventually Van Dam put him away with a Van Daminator. A part of me wishes they had put Lynn over there, maybe do an inconclusive rematch, and then move RVD on to the ECW world title. -
I didn't watch this PPV, but it sounds about like expected. Namely Angle jobs 2 of the belts but keeps the world title. I have no idea why Karen would help cause her husband to lose one of them however. I'm assuming this is going to set up Angle vs. Sting at BFG, and I have no idea who would go over there. How much longer is Sting signed for? Would they put the belt on him and have him transition to someone else?

Well, the thing is the finish to that Living Dangerously match is beyond any level of retarded. I remember watching that PPV with a group of people and everyone was baffled as to why the ref thought he could just give the challenger the belt on a time limit draw. It was playing off the goofy Holyfield/Lewis boxing match. The Hardcore Heaven rematch had a bit more stalling in the first 5 minutes but is more satisfying overall. That said, yeah the LD match did initially get Lynn over as more than a token JTTS challenger. I still say the best RVD/Lynn match was from TNN in Sept. 1999, the one with Lynn having the broken ribs that were taped up. One of the best matches ever to air on ECW TV and I sorta wish they have given Lynn the belt there since the ECW Arena was ready to explode if he had won. -
I think that Orton's first suspension is the same thing that just got reported here recently. And no, I'm not going to give Booker much shit about failing a wellness test since there were so many guys busted recently that it makes me wonder if everyone in the fed is on something.

The Island actually did make about 163 million worldwide, but the budget was 126 so unless it did massive DVD business then it probably lost money.

Who knows if the Titans are really that good, it was against the Jags after all. Jacksonville is a perennial mystery team of the NFL. One week they do something like this, or they might steamroll the Colts. Would you believe the two 1:00 games I got were Pitts/Cleveland and Minn/ATL? Could the local stations have possibly fucked up more if they tried? I know Bobby Petrino coached U of L, but why the hell would Fox think anyone in Louisville cares about what Petrino does with the Falcons? And what possible excuse is there for showing that Steelers/Browns squash? Earth to CBS: Tim Couch does not play for the Browns anymore, so any interest in that team in KY is long gone.

Truth be told, I don't blame WCW for not pushing Eddie that hard. In late 1998 he had a near fatal car wreck when he was wasted and rushed to come back in 1999. If you're WCW do you really push him that hard? As far as Rey goes, I personally don't think a guy that's as ridiculously small as him should ever hold a world title in the heavyweight division. There are some things that are just not believable. And truth be told, Rey wasn't really much more talented than any number of other luchadores on WCW's roster.

I don't think Angle got much from beating The Rock in 2000 to be honest. The whole goofy Rikishi storyline overshadowed that match and the run in kept Angle from gaining a hell of a lot from it. As far as Goldberg/Hogan goes, that is a bit abstract. I do think Hogan put him over big time that night in the Georgia Dome, but the problem was that Bischoff had all these goofy celeb matches lined up that he naturally wanted as the main events to draw publicity. Goldberg's very gimmick at that point with the win streak precluded him from having a compelling feud....it was all "Beat this guy's ass, then move to someone else." The Goldberg/Jericho mini feud could have been interesting, but for some reason Bischoff didn't want to simply job Jericho out. Which is curious considering that they jobbed Jericho frequently in his last 6 months in WCW. -
WWE General Discussion - September 2007

In all fairness who the hell else is there for HHH right now on Raw? Booker is suspended/quit, Umaga is suspended, Orton is facing Cena. Who else is there for HHH to squash at Unforgiven? -
I don't blame Booker one iota for quitting if this is the case. Has there been anyone else more abused and buried by WWE in the past 6 years than Booker? He was treated like a jobber during the Invasion angle, jobbed to everyone under the sun post Invasion, then finally started getting over with Goldust. Only then to have HHH bury him in 2003. After doing nothing of real note for years he finally got over as a main eventer with the King gimmick and got the world title....and then ended up back on Raw jobbing to HHH for no real good reason other than HHH just needed a high profile job bitch. Between this and WWE passing on his promotion for a development group (in favor of FL so Johnny Ace can go on vacation while inspecting the place) I can see why Booker finally got fed up. Booker should just retire now. He's over 40 so I can't see much for him to do at this point, unless anyone out there is dying to see Kurt/Karen vs. Booker/Sharmell in a mixed tag in TNA. Oh god, I probably just gave Russo an idea.

It's funny but USF vs. Auburn tonight was such a trendy upset pick that I balked at it. The amusing aspect of the postgame was the announcers acting like it was some sort of program making win. Hell, they beat U of L by 31 in 2005 and for a big road win they beat WVU in Morgantown last year (I'm still trying to figure that one out). To me this was a mild upset tonight, but not some earth shaking, program changing win. USF has already gotten past that point.
-
Man, UK squashed Kent St. tonight 56-20, which I have to admit scares the shit out of me on some levels. Given how U of L played on defense the other night it looks like an actual high octane offense like UK could have a field day. That game will be possibly the most wild, wide open game of the year. One team is averaging about 65 a game, the other 53.

I totally disagree with Bret there. Imagine if he taps to the crossface in that match. The dude would have given up in a match honoring his dead brother, who died in that very arena no less. I certainly think that Bret should have eventually jobbed to Benoit and put him over for the title, but that particular match was not the time for it. -

I guess Bret did lose on occasion to Hakushi or someone, but again it was one of those "I'll job to you but then beat you EVERY other time." In all fairness I think Bret would have put Benoit over for the title in WCW had he not had the career ending injury. That is what they seemed to be building to, since Benoit almost beat him in the Owen match (which was good booking by the way, Bret would have looked like the pussy of the universe to job in a match honoring his dead brother) and Benoit also got close to winning the WCW tourney finals vs. Bret. -

Here's a question to ponder: How many guys did Bret Hart really put over that weren't members of his own family? I wouldn't say HBK at WM 12 since it had that lame OT nonsense that protected Bret too much. It's curious that Bret has a rep for putting guys over, but I can't think of anyone. Yoko of course got more from beating Hogan than his ultra tainted win over Bret. Backlund got nothing but a 1 week title run from beating Bret. To be honest I wouldn't even count SS 92 vs. Bulldog as Bret putting him over, since Bulldog was out of the company about 3 months later. I guess he did put Owen over and then beat him in EVERY other match. -
I might consider getting that new Robocop DVD. The main thing I remember about it as a kid is the truly sick moment near the end where one bad guy falls in a barrel of toxic waste, and then gets hit by a car and then SPLAT...he literally explodes all over the place!

I read a bit more into this and it seems a bit silly to try and say that since Ankiel was using HGH in 2004 that it wrecks whatever he's done this year. In 2004 Ankiel was recovering from Tommy John surgery and throwing wild pitches in the minor leagues, then ended up in a Puerto Rican league for a while after that. If there's evidence that comes out showing that he was using HGH or steroids in the past year while becoming a slugger in AAA and with the Cardinals, then yeah that looks pretty bad.

Well, I don't get exactly what belts they are going to job off of Angle at the PPV. There's no way I would job Angle and Sting to Pacman and Killings, especially since Pacman can't even DO anything, can he? I would hope Angle drops the X title to Lethal via some sort of run in from Joe or whatever. And of course Angle keeps the world title with the Judas Macias run in. Hell they are practically advertising his run in.
-
Man that was an ugly beatdown the 2nd half. Consider that the only TD the Saints scored was due to Reggie Wayne's brainfart where he basically handed them the ball.
-
Well, you don't have to hear anymore of my awful pimping of U of L for a while after tonight. That was a fucking embarrassment. Jesus, giving up 42 to MIDDLE TENNESSEE?? The whole first half I was in utter horror at that so called defensive effort. What's worse is that I saw some of this crap last week against Murray but since the final score was 73-10 nobody really cared....yet there were the same stupid penalties, missed tackles, missed assignments, and so on. I think U of L is almost too preoccupied with getting sacks and keep getting beat for big gains. Seriously why the hell would Cassity call a blitz on a 3rd and 16? That idiotic play set the tone for the game. It didn't help that I flipped over to Cincy just kicking the shit out of Oregon St. That one is looking like a dicey proposition right now. As is UK next week.

You know what's truly hilarious about the notion of the Cardinals making the playoffs? I bet they would at least win the first round and make the NLCS. I think the Cubs will likely be screwed when they have to go to STL for a 4 game series. For what it's worth the Cardinals have 13 road games and 11 home left, the Cubs have 16 on the road compared to 7 at home, and the Brewers have 10 at home and 13 on the road.
