You know, I wouldn't mind seeing a Booker/Sharmell vs. Kurt/Karen mixed tag. Though I wonder what Karen would think of Kurt wanting to have wild, beastiality sex with Sharmell.

Why not start Redman then? Could he possibly do worse than what the Falcons are doing now?

I'm happy for the Rockies. Unlike the other 1993 expansion team, the Marlins, there's a real sense that this franchise has at least paid some dues to get to this point. As in none of this "Let's buy a bunch of high priced talent, win it all, then dismantle" crap. Here's one thing to consider though. Last year the Tigers has sorta fallen off and lost out on the division title before getting back into a groove. So their tank job in the WS was really a bit more in line with the way they finished the season.

The hilarious aspect of that is instead of looking at the fans voting for Jeff as a sign that maybe this guy is over and people want to see him main event, they say "Oh shit, this isn't what we want....we gotta job him so that he doesn't win!" Know what's funny? I voted for Jeff too, mainly to fuck with WWE. It would be funny if everyone voted for Jeff out of spite figuring HBK will win anyway, but then Jeff actually wins. And then jobs at the PPV.

This may be a controversial opinion, but I think I was digging those World Class shows a bit more when the Freebirds had a lesser role on the show. I was into the whole H & H heel faction with Gary Hart and the black Muslim dude. Kabuki, Dragon, and Checkmate were quite the curious array of heels. And I'll second the comment about Bugsy McGraw, I heard the guy was supposed to be utter shit but I quite like his tag work with Al Madril.

Going right back to Angle makes no sense. I'm assuming Christian will win that tourney since it kinda has NO ONE in it that people take seriously. Christian/Angle makes zero sense as a match, but Sting/Christian certainly does.

Is it a coincidence that she and Punk broke up right around the time this stuff with her and Santino started on TV? I guess her appearance on the Dating Game made Punk jealous.

I think his excuse for that WM was that he was too injured to compete and put Austin over the way he deserved it. All of those above scenarios just don't work as well as what happened, know what I mean? Let's say Shawn gets it in some weak ass 4 way and doesn't even pin Bret. He looks like a bogus champ (not that he wasn't anyway) who didn't even pin the champ for the belt. Shawn was a horribly unprofessional piece of shit, yet in total irony it ended up being the best thing for the company. By the time he had formed DX, screwed Bulldog out of the European title in the UK, gotten lucky as fuck against UT in the HIAC, won the title in the Montreal screwjob, and then beaten UT in the casket match with Kane interfering AGAIN.....was there anyone who didn't want to see this man get destroyed in the middle of the ring??? WM 14 was the ultimate comeuppance for Shawn Michaels the character, and the back injury around that time period was the comeuppance for Shawn Michaels the man. Four years of being on the shelf and watching the WWF become more popular than it ever was when he was around made him a bit more humble, at least when it comes to stuff like not jobbing. For the life of me I don't understand what he was thinking in refusing to job to Austin at first. Not only would he be missing the main event of WM for the 2nd year in a row, but what were they supposed to do instead? He was obviously hurting, so he couldn't have retained there. Did he seriously expect them to job Austin out to HIM? Did he want to just forfeit the belt like he did seemingly a dozen times before? -
The problem is having different shit to sell. I guess that is where Saveus222 will come in. This had to be one of the worst Raws in history tonight. A blatant Looney Tunes ripoff, Orton wrestling in THREE matches (2 of these had DQs as well), Hornswaggle being horribly overexposed, Umaga squashing a jobber three different times....How can they not kill their UK business after a show like that?
-
Well it does sound like he's not shy about just shooting all over everyone he hates. I'm amused that he is aghast that his matches with JBL sucked. Let's face it, Batista needs a real ring general in there to get a solid match out of him, and JBL has had maybe two or three matches ever I'd consider remotely decent (two with Eddie and the Cena "I QUIT" match).
-
I wonder what it will take for them to pull the plug on Orton as champ? Ratings below 2.0? Cause him wrestling 3 times on Raw will put them on that path, especially when there's MNF and baseball playoff games on.

Frankly, Michaels should have been fired over taking such a stance. What kind of asshole in pro wrestling flat out states he will not lose a match to anyone? It turned out well enough, they got a few more months out of HBK but somehow I doubt Vince and Co. missed him all that much. The only reason Shawn got away with that crap is because Vince was already going to lose Bret, so he probably didn't want to lose Shawn at that point too. For the life of me I don't see why they didn't make that Euro title match a DQ schmozz. That's the match that needed the run ins, not Montreal. Michaels had no use for the European title, and it prevents jobbing the Bulldog in the UK and doing damage to international business. With that said, I agree with Shawn in not wanting to job to Bret. Why the fuck would he agree to job to a guy who was finishing his time in a promotion, especially when he would end up as champ anyway in time for WM? In a deranged way Shawn being such a prick about jobbing made his character such an asshole heel that when it came time for WM (when he 100% had to job to Austin) there was huge money to be drawn. -
Man, having Orton wrestle 3 times on a show is the exact recipe to make me not want to watch. I'd rather see even Big Daddy V wrestle 3 times, at least his matches would likely be squashes with no resting.

I'll flat out say how I feel about the Wild Card: I think it sucks. The first couple of years I really didn't care either way since the WC was mostly just some jabroni team that got beat 3-0. The first real backlash I had against the WC was in 1997 with that Marlins team. These guys finished about 9 games behind the Braves and due to this crackpot system and a bit of luck ended up winning a World Series. The irony is that the Marlins actually were the 2nd best team in the NL that year, but there is no way a team with 9 fewer wins should end up in the World Series. The original intent of the Wild Card was to prevent another 1993 doomsday scenario where the Giants were left out of the playoffs despite the 2nd best record in baseball. The feeling was that such a stellar team should be included, and if the WC winner wasn't anything great in other scenarios at least they would be gone quickly 3-0. Instead we have a different sort of doomsday scenario, where these WC teams that barely scrape into the playoffs beat favored teams (who have long since clinched divisions, while the WC team has had to fight). Oh, and all these rounds of playoffs lead to games being played in freezing, rainy weather. If the WS was played shortly after the reg. season was over, there might be a little more decent weather.

I didn't see either at the theater so I don't have that "theater experience" to describe here, but I thought 28 Days was easily better. The sequel felt like it really didn't have a coherent center to it. I suppose it could be the kids, but this isn't really apparent until almost too late into it to care. Whereas the first one at least had Cillian Murphy and the two chicks as the flat out main characters that we're into the whole time. I know the fast moving zombie is an en vogue thing, but I prefer the standard slow zombie. The slow, standard zombie lends itself to way more moods, tones, and so forth (chills, humor, gore). The fast zombie gives us basically the same rapid editing chase and fighting and may as well be Jason Bourne vs. The Infected.

TNA wrestlers planning to confront Dixie Carter

But....but....they are now Team 3D! They are Brother Ray and Brother Devon! How is this not a major repackaging? -

I too am perplexed at why WWE didn't have ODB under some sort of contract. She was all over OVW TV for several months feuding with Katie Lea, and recently just sorta dropped the women's belt in a dark match to Roucka and left OVW. I find it puzzling since ODB had this drunken white trash type gimmick that would have been much different from the standard WWE diva fare. I thought she was an obvious call up to the main roster, maybe as a wrestler and also as The Sandman's girlfriend or something (before he got released). -
Eh, the OVW stuff at the peak of Heyman's booking down here was pretty good stuff. It was mostly guys like CM Punk and Brent Albright carrying it though. I think the main problem with developmental is that guys are being instructed by old wrestlers who really weren't all that great even in their prime. I like Al Snow but I strain to think of more than 2 or 3 good matches I've ever seen with the guy (maybe vs. Benoit in ECW, one with Dinsmore in OVW). Danny Davis? Just a midcard guy who didn't do much of note in Memphis and the territories. Bill DeMott....would you want Hugh Morrus teaching you anything? Steve Keirn was a decent tag wrestler with Stan Lane, but freakin Skinner running a development group?

At this point I wonder if the probable long layoff for the Rockies could be a detriment and cool them off, much like with Detroit last year. Of course the Rockies would have to completely forget how to throw the ball to 1st and 3rd for that to be the case, and since they are the best fielding team in the league I can't see it happening. I know the Indians/Red Sox winner will be favored but it's hard at this point to imagine anyone beating the Rockies 4 times.

As much as I want to look forward to an epic Indy/NE undefeated matchup in a few weeks I can't help but wonder if the Colts might go down at Jacksonville next week. The Jags are 4-1 with the 1 loss by 3 points and last year crushed the Colts in JAX. Why were there so many jokes about Testaverde this week? I know he's old but it seemed like all the TV pundits went out of their way to poke fun at the Panthers for signing him.

I actually agree that margin of victory shouldn't be counted in the BCS. If someone is lucky as hell at some point that luck will run out anyway. If not, then you have Ohio St. in 2002.

Bound for Glory taking place in Atlanta
cabbageboy replied to Hunter's Torn Quad's topic in TNA Wrestling
This was an excellent PPV, likely TNA's strongest of the year and it seems like whoever was booking at least finally cut down on the insane run ins and bullshit. Nearly every match had the proper ending with the right people going over (Sting winning, Styles/Tomko, Lethal retaining, LAX #1 contenders). The only puzzling thing is this tourney deal with Eric Young winning tonight.....I don't get what this is all about yet. The women's gauntlet match was pretty bizarre stuff, wish it had been either Kong or ODB in there with Gail at the end. I've made my feelings known on the Roxxie Laveaux gimmick (I think it sucks and it's bush league), so why not put someone a bit more credible in there at the end? Have Gail overcome the huge Kong to win, or maybe keep ODB in there to set up the first real feud of the division. I thought Christy Hemme was broken in half, hell she might actually be. But good lord, someone tell Awesome Kong to wear a different outfit. Seeing those tits was like watching a Big Daddy V match. -
From what I've seen of Tyler Perry's stuff he has no consistency in tone at all. One minute it's him in drag doing broad comedy, then it's a serious drug addict subplot, or a guy being paralyzed. When people criticize his movies for not being funny it's not really a legit complaint since I'm not sure his movies are really 100% comedy by any means.

Bradshaw isn't alone in that comparison. I recently talked to a few other people who seem to think USF is somehow this big Cinderella like Boise St. was last year. The irony is of course that Boise wasn't even a Cinderella, since they have been a brilliant program for several years (hell they were unbeaten when they played U of L in the Liberty Bowl in 2004, and U of L barely escaped there....and U of L in 2004 was better than the lesser OU team Boise beat). But anyway, how the hell is USF like Boise? 1. USF is all over national TV, having played Auburn and WVU on ESPN and they will have high profile games with Rutgers, U of L, Cincy all upcoming. 2. USF is in a MAJOR conference while Boise is in the WAC and basically must go unbeaten to make it to the BCS. 3. USF is in a big city like Tampa, in a football crazy state...whereas Boise is in friggin Idaho. Anyway, I personally don't think it will matter since I don't see USF being able to handle the bullseye on them of being a #2 team. I'd be mildly surprised if they even won this week at Rutgers since Rutgers will be playing for their season and needs the win.

I think some of it is that there are just too many rounds of playoffs. I hear all the time about how the wild card makes the last month of the regular season so thrilling, but it makes for the actual postseason to be incredibly long winded and boring. Ratings are down because of fan fatigue over all these various rounds of playoffs and the sheer length of these games. Add to it over the past decade that the best teams simply don't make it to the World Series. Baseball had much better World Series when they just took the two best teams and went with it.
