Further irony: I actually quite like the soldier stuff from 28 Days Later. By the way, I wasn't saying that Fincher was influenced by M. Night in any way. I'm just saying that the ending just seems like some goofy shit Shyamalan would come up with. I just hate nearly every ending where a major character isn't real, or someone is dead and doesn't know it, etc. Oddly enough one of the few movies where that sort of twist was kinda fun was Secret Window.

I would say yes and no on Morton and I'll tell you why. Yes because Morton was of course very good at the whole "face in peril" bit. No because it was Morton being so good at it that led to tag wrestling getting insanely repetitive and formulaic. I suppose there was such a thing as a face in peril before him, but it wasn't until Morton and Gibson that this became the typical formula for nearly EVERY tag match.

The Patriots have to play in Indy bear in mind. If they lose that one not only would they not be undefeated, they might not even get home field throughout the playoffs.
-
This goes more in the category of a bad ending, but how about the last part of Fight Club? The first two hours of it was great and then suddenly David Fincher morphed into M. Night Shyamalan.

Could it be possible that the Turkey Day Turmoil is the whole thing with the turkey on a pole match from the dying days of the AWA?

It's not a real odd locale, but I did meet a bunch of guys from OVW at a Hooters. It was after helping a friend move, just kicking back and drinking when a bunch of wrestlers came in. It was Matt Morgan, Shannon Moore (when he looked fairly normal), Luther Reigns (or whatever he was called then), Sakoda, and two really big titted blondes that were with Morgan. Shannon was probably the coolest, since he signed an autograph for my friend Chris (it was for his cousin, but I still wonder who would want Shannon Moore's autograph). Most of them were cool enough, though Luther and Sakoda were kinda miserable and hung out by themselves. My friend Chris really, really hates Luther for reasons I've still never quite understood. In fact I still joke with him about that sign on Raw a while back of "Bring Back Luther Reigns."

I'd say Michaels' selling vs. UT in the HIAC and other matches is better than the Hogan match. The Hogan match was silly and fun, but hardly what I would show an aspiring wrestler. RVD's sell of the RKO was crazy. Bear in mind the point of the RKO is not the same as a Stunner (which is to hit the head/jaw area on the shoulder). In theory it's supposed to be face first on the mat with an RKO, much like a Diamond Cutter. Keep in mind that the point of that RVD/Orton match was to convey that Van Dam was being brutalized to the point of having a concussion, so a horrific, over the top sell job only served to put Orton over more.

Yeah that was the match, from the DX PPV. When was the match on Raw? I'm hazy on that one.

Not So Detailed Smackdown Spoilers for 10/26/07
cabbageboy replied to ChrisMWaters's topic in The WWE Folder
I don't see Batista losing the belt here, the match just has no hype behind it. Besides, after driving the point home that HE CAN'T BEAT UT they kinda need him to win here. By the way, I mentioned it in another thread but Batista hasn't lost very many matches at all this year, just the WM match. When else has he lost in these title shots? It's mostly a lame DQ or something, or the champ pins someone else. I guess Edge did beat him a couple of times. They might change the ECW title if Morrison wins the vote, otherwise no. This show is filler crap anyway, I wouldn't change many titles. -
Yeah but that is followed the the biker gang robbing the rich zombie woman. Not sure the pie part is even a scene really, just a throwaway bit. As far as Pulp Fiction goes, I'll say some of the Willis scenes are a bit dull. The scene with his French girlfriend is a snoozer, at least before he finds out about the watch a bit later. And the cab scene is too long as well, though that scene is at least needed.

How sad is it that I remember Bret facing Shango for the WWF title on SNME from Nov. 1992? Did he carry Shango as well? -
Yeah the HBK/Shamrock match was from the DX PPV in Dec. 1997. Apparently Shawn thought Shamrock was a goof and beneath him so he specifically would call a spot audibly to do it. It's not a particularly bad match really, but it's funny if you know what to look for.
-
HBK has been far worse than Batista at getting all sorts of shots without winning. Bear in mind Batista rarely LOSES these matches. It's mostly his opponent getting a DQ, or there's a count out, etc. Or if it's a 4 way someone else is pinned. Since he relinquished the title and came back Booker T. mostly got himself DQed, and Batista lost to UT at WM but the LMS match was a draw and the cage match was a draw. He also faced Khali and Kane jobbed in that 3 way, Khali was DQed at SS, and so on. Shawn Michaels has had title shots for years without ever winning the title. He jobbed to HHH more times than I can recall, or maybe he lost to Benoit in 2004, lost to Cena, and so on. It's like they want to constantly push Michaels but the reality is that he's been injury prone and doesn't want to be on the road, so they can't really put the belt on him.

No one ever got beaten cleanly in WCW during the Russo era. I do think Booker lost to Kanyon but there was probably a run in. Booker's main event run in WCW wasn't very successful quite honestly and I think some of it was that he didn't get a steady push to the main event. He was just sorta put in there due to the perceived internet demand for a Booker push, but nothing on TV for a year would have led the viewers to think Booker T. should be world champion. -

Based on this psychology, was Bret exactly the heel at SS 92? And he and Davey Boy had a similar amount of years in the business, so who knows. I think in that scenario that the champ would call it, but who knows. -
If Michaels is going to keep getting title shots ad nauseum then he needs to win the belt. Even if it's just a transition run or whatever. Sure, Michaels could win the voting but let's just say at this point if he did I would suspicion a fix. If Jeff did win this vote it would have to be a huge blow to HBK's ego since the entire main event angle is him trying to get revenge on Orton.

Here is one thing I have to wonder about: Isn't it the champion who usually calls the spots in a match anyway? Bret acts like what he was doing here was something out of the ordinary. I recall a Steamboat interview where he recalled wrestling Harley Race for the NWA title and Race would call all of the spots and lead him through the match. -
I too found the whole "Steph is pissed over SaveUS222" completely idiotic. Nobody really leaked anything....hell it was all there to begin with! WWE all but told people it was Jericho. What else could anyone infer with those vignettes? So in other words she was pissed that people found out it was Jericho, when the actual TV bits themselves leaked that it was Jericho.
-
While HBK did get to lay Orton out it was Jeff who won that tag match. Let Jeff get the title shot, it would at least save them from doing the Michaels/Orton match on a nothing PPV. And truth be told, Shawn has had a hundred title shots in the past 4 years and hasn't won anything.

Here are my predictions for the week's games: DET @ CHI: The Lions are doing pretty well, but the Bears may well have righted the ship. I'll take Chicago by 7. NYG @ MIA: It's in London, can the Dolphins finally get a win? Nah. Giants by 13. OAK @ TEN: Not sure what Young's status is, but I can't see the Raiders winning it on the road. Titans by 6. PHI @ MIN: Eagles are in desperate need of a win. I really have no idea who wins this, but the Vikings have at least been sorta decent at times. Minn. by 3. CLE @ STL: Can the Rams finally get that first win? This might be it, but I don't see it. Browns by 7. IND @ CAR: This is a dangerous game for the Colts with them on a short week and the Panthers coming off the bye. Still, if it was Vinny starting I might be tempted to say upset, but David Carr? Indy by 10. PIT @ CIN: Steelers need to get on track but who knows which team will show up. I'll say the Bengals by 4 in a minor upset. JAC @ TB: David Garrard may be hurt, and it's on the road with a short week.....Tampa by 5. HOU @ SD: Not sure if this game will even happen or not with the fires. If so, Chargers by 9. BUF @ NYJ: God, who knows. I'll go with the Jets to get a win at home by 3. NO @ SF: The Niners have NO offense and the Saints might be on track now. Saints by 10. WAS @ NE: The Redskins may fare a bit better than most here, but they aren't going to win. NE by 13. Monday: GB @ DEN: Oh dear. Does the world really need the Broncos making some sort of lame run to a 9-7 record? Cause I sense them winning here by another Elam FG.

That seems like a goofy reason to divorce someone. They couldn't have spent some time in Italy, some in Canada, etc.?

I'm not sure what is up with Kennedy. During his initial run he was pretty solid, but it seems like once he got hurt in late 2005 he never quite seemed the same. The Hogan match from 2005 isn't the best example of HBK antics. It was theatrical overselling to the max, but Hogan wasn't wildly screwing up spots or anything. The Shamrock match from Dec. 1997 is one where Michaels yelled spots out and generally made Shamrock look moronic.
-
I too noticed the bizarre lack of communication between Michaels and Kennedy. That neckbreaker spot looked really bad in particular. Michaels is certainly not someone I'd want to fuck up in the ring against, since he has been known to make opponents look bad that he considers inferior.

NFL Week 7: You Mean There's A Football Team In Denver?
cabbageboy replied to CanadianChris's topic in Sports
Yeah, this Pats hype has gotten entirely out of hand considering they have mostly been squashing a bunch of jobbers with the exception of Dallas. And yes, San Diego when they played the Patriots were in fact playing like jobbers. -

I'll second the Pillman/Austin angle. But the most shocked I've ever been watching wrestling was the July 2001 Raw with ECW showing up and beating the crap out of Jericho and Kane. I hadn't even heard of this happening beforehand. Don't think anyone on the net even knew. The Owen/HBK angle I've always thought was silly. I mean Owen was a moron. He had HBK knocked out in the center of the ring and didn't think to PIN the guy??? Then he did the same thing against Austin 2 years later, albeit this time for real.
