  1. I don't really have a real good reason why I stopped watching wrestling in late 1989. I guess some of it is that my brother was born in Oct. 89 so I had to help my mom a bit more, but that isn't really a total reason. I seem to recall watching Survivor Series 89 and then after that I just sorta stopped. The Zeus feud didn't turn me off at all. If anything Hogan came off huge when he beat Zeus. I didn't think Hogan was stale per se, but that he was simply out of competition. Ditto Warrior...after the Rude and Andre feuds I didn't see much for him as IC champ since he had dominated everyone. I think Demolition had just regained the tag belts and there didn't seem like much serious competition on the horizon there either (though they lost to the Colossal Connection apparently right after I stopped watching). Had I kept watching Hogan and Warrior's dominance would have made more sense because they were programmed against each other at WM, which is something I had never thought would happen. Truth be told I think a lot of people just stopped watching in late 89 because wrestling was sorta viewed as this "80s thing" and the 1990s was almost there.
  2. Well, that 1/1/83 show doesn't look like Flair/Kerry from the sound of that preview. It might be matches from that Reunion Arena show though, since it had the Freebirds and David Von Erich teaming thus indicating it was right before the Hayes heel turn that ignited the feud. I just checked this out and yes this is the same card. I wonder if the Flair/Kerry match is on the next episode though, since it seems like a lot to cover that particular match in addition to that 6 man tag and the battle royale that was mentioned.
  3. What would that stable of guys do that would be of any use? Morgan is okay, haven't seen enough of his work to really know what he can do (I wasn't watching OVW during his run). I did actually meet the guy at a Hooters though, along with Shannon Moore and Luther Reigns, haha. The problem that a lot of these ex OVW guys have in TNA is that they are such unspectacular workers in a promotion where you either need to be a well known WWE (or WCW, ECW) guy or an awesome in ring talent. Guys like Doug Basham, Rob Conway....they're just bland as fuck and bring little to the table.
  4. PWInsider did a brief update saying that he didn't no show but did give notice that he wouldn't be at Raw last night. Still nothing concrete as far as what exactly is going on.
  5. I don't think the Psycho remake should be #1, not over crap like Wicker Man. It was an ill advised idea to simply refilm the exact same movie as Hitchcock, but at least it sorta kept the original idea in mind. With Wicker Man, I have no idea what the fuck the director was thinking with all the changes that were made. I think we need another thread of the best remakes ever.
  6. Regarding cable TV, you didn't need it to see a lot of stuff. Superstars was on local Fox for me, USWA was on a local station too. The SNME shows were on NBC. So it was really just the NWA/WCW that you needed TBS to see, as well as whatever WWF stuff was on USA. I stopped watching for whatever reason in very late 1989, and started watching again in Feb. 92. It was a SNME on Fox I think, first time I saw UT. Got hooked once more.
  7. Maybe he'll look just about the same? Man with Lashley hurt and now Jeff AWOL does it seem like Raw is getting a touch of the usual crap SD has to put up with?
  8. Yeah I found it odd that Jeff wasn't on Raw last night. Who knows at this point what the deal is, but given his past problems it's not hard to piece it together. It would be a shame if he blew it again, since he was one of the most over guys on Raw.
  9. Ladykillers is one I'm surprised made the list but if you've ever seen the Alec Guinness original you'd know why the Coen movie made the list. Down to Earth is complex in what it is remaking. It is remaking Heaven Can Wait (with Warren Beatty), which itself was a remake of Here Comes Mr. Jordan (1941) and NOT a remake of the actual 1943 Heaven Can Wait. There was also a 1947 movie called Down to Earth, but I don't think the Chris Rock movie has a whole lot to do with it. By the way, I actually think the Vincent Price House of Wax is a piece of crap, mainly existing to showcase the new 3D process circa 1953. Nobody would put it on this list though, because it was a more popular movie than the original Mystery of the Wax Museum. Anyway, Wicker Man with Cage should by far be #1 on this list. One of the 5 worst movies in the history of the world. As my dad said after seeing the original "I thought that Cage version was bad until I saw the original. Now I think it's REALLY horrible."
  10. Where exactly can anyone or anything go if Orton doesn't win the title? There's no one viable left to challenge Cena, particularly with Kennedy buried since he's been on Raw (though perhaps the win over Lashley can get him back on track a bit). Still, would anyone think Kennedy could beat Cena if Lashley and Orton couldn't? Besides, HHH is going to need his job bitch Orton to beat for the title when he returns. Maybe they will wait until Dec. to give Orton a title win and set him up to job out at WM to HHH. Make him Jericho the Jobber II. You know what I found hilarious? During the opening of Raw Cena mentioned the various guys who have attacked him before a PPV (Lashley, Orton, Khali, etc.). He actually critiqued the ultra stale and formulaic booking of his own feuds. You can add Michaels to that as well, although that was a bit more subtle. Van Dam attacked him last year as well. Further, Cena losing all these non title matches just to retain at a PPV is getting old. He has lost to Khali, HBK, and now Carlito in non title matches, probably a few more I'm forgetting.
  11. Yeah I meant it is heinous to think of Syracuse leaving the Big East in basketball moreso than football. With Rutgers, I don't see how going to the Big 10 in football would make any sense, since they couldn't possibly finish higher than 4th behind teams like OSU, Michigan, Penn St. With the right schedule in the Big East they could maybe go to the BCS this year, but after Ray Rice goes pro who knows.
  12. I first remember watching an episode of All American Wrestling on a Sunday, since the various cartoons were on USA then as well. The first match I recall was Strike Force as tag champs going against two masked jobbers, and I was fascinated. This had to be very late 87 or maybe early 88, since the first Royal Rumble was on right after this. If you were a kid back then it was hard NOT to watch wrestling. Consider that Rumble was on USA, then that Main Event with Hogan/Andre was on NBC, the first Clash of the Champions on TBS, and so on. I watched WWF but was also a big fan of the Memphis shows we got locally (Championship Wrestling, later USWA). Never was a big NWA fan, mainly because as a kid I didn't like a promotion where the heels constantly won.
  13. They can always bring in Eddie George to feud with Pacman, saying he is a disgrace to the Titan jersey. It's a license to print money.
  14. Are we sure Abyss thought up a bizarre match like that, or did Russo counsel this man before the TV taping? Cause a mongloid fool like Abyss could hardly come up with something so overbooked and intricate. Wouldn't Abyss just want a violent hardcore brawl with Christian so he could slam him on tacks and broken glass? The Karen Angle stuff is really, really weird. The sad part of it is that since this is Russo I know exactly where it is going. At the PPV Karen will be there seemingly to support Joe, but then turns on Joe to rejoin Kurt and Angle wins all the gold. Is there ANYONE who read those spoilers that didn't think this immediately?
  15. You gotta love a Raw where they manage to find time to have both Lawler and Slaughter in matches and yet don't have one of the most over guys on the roster even on the show (Jeff Hardy). Add me to those puzzled as to the lack of Jeff tonight. I've ranted about this a few other times, but what in the hell is up with WWE constantly bringing back these ultra washed up guys for matches? This is 2007, I should not be seeing Sgt. Slaughter on my TV. Nor Jimmy Snuka. Maybe Dusty to put his son over and use a mic but certainly not in the ring. And as much of an old school Lawler fan as I am, there's no way Booker should be struggling with him if he's going to be feuding with HHH soon. It is hilarious that Orton is unaminously declared this awesome #1 contender and yet now that I think about it I can't recall him actually beating anyone that could be considered a contender, at least not in a singles match (he did pin Lashley in a tag match). Even since he's done this concussion crap he really hasn't beaten anyone of note. HBK? Match was stopped, Orton didn't actually win and really was likely going to lose had Shawn not passed out before the superkick. RVD? Hell, he JOBBED to Van Dam. Other than that he has beaten up rookies like Cody and old men like Dusty and Slaughter. Oh wait, Orton did beat Jeff in that GAB beat the clock thing. That is his only singles win over a viable guy on the roster.
  16. Frank Miller. I know people seem to be predicting big things for Harry Smith but from what I've seen of him in OVW he's pretty....shitty. Pains me to say that too since Davey Boy is one of my all time favorites. Without the family name though Harry would be Mark Jindrak or someone. Dare I say it but Teddy Hart wowed the crowd in that that match this past week against the James Boys on OVW? Crazy corkscrew splashes aren't seen often in OVW, in fact I wonder if he did it against orders. Teddy is one of those Nuke LaLoush sorts, needs that Crash Davis to school him.
  17. Why on earth would he save Booker? Isn't he supposed to bury Booker in a feud soon? Man, this will be twice that HHH has buried poor Booker. Anyway I thought HHH was returning at the MSG Raw in a couple of weeks, so I don't even think he'll be there tonight.
  18. Am I to assume that Lohan doesn't actually show us the goods in this flick? This has to be one of the lamest trends in Hollywood, these chicks who sign on for some sort of stripper/slut role and then refuse to actually go through with it (Alba, Portman, now Lohan). From the reviews I thought this movie sounded pretty weak, but from the posts on here it sounds truly insane. Might have to check it out on DVD.
  19. Yeah I remember Sting attacking Hogan with a bat at the end of that Fall Brawl match, but if anything I recall the crowd popping big time for it. Hogan's face act was lame at that point and nobody was buying it, and the crowd was glad Sting did something he should have done to Hogan a long time before. I still don't think it was a heel turn, maybe more of a tweener turn.
  20. I'm telling you, most people in the mainstream press have no sold the WWF becoming WWE. As far as Pacman goes, this is bizarre. I do wonder why anyone in Orlando is supposed to care about him. Jarrett must think they are still in Nashville with all the Titans doing crossovers on TNA.
  21. The Steele/Savage angle worked better with Steele in a supporting role, such as his involvement with Steamboat. They could have done that angle after WM and thus freed up Savage to have a decent match with someone else.
  22. Syracuse going to the Big 10 is almost sacrilege if you think about it. Is there anyone more Big East than the Cuse? Would this be only football or a basketball move as well?
  23. I honestly don't remember much about Sting's heel turn since it was quickly forgotten and truth be told I don't even remember it being a flat out HEEL turn. It seemed more like Sting just going tweener for a while and besides I didn't feel like Sting had done anything wrong. He was confronted with Luger (his actual storyline friend) trashing Hogan, so he finally said the hell with it and smartened up and beat the piss out of Hogan. Hogan was his actual opponent at Fall Brawl, so what is wrong with beating the crap out of your opponent? In fact the Hummer angle had a part in that Sting/Hogan feud. Luger kept insinuating that Hogan was the driver, yet the guy who had been run over (Nash) had just lost a retirement match and the other guy involved (Savage) was basically MIA. I still think that if they had just had it be Sid as the driver it would have been a nice little angle that brought a guy in as a psycho heel and Sid would have gotten more over than he did with the phony streak.
  24. Okay here we go: RVD! RVD!
  25. I don't see anyone in the Big East going undefeated and thus going to the title game. It should have happened last year with U of L, since the schedule was there to do it but the one tough road game turned out to be Rutgers. But with the matchups in place this year I don't see it happening: --U of L has to travel to WVU (probable loss barring injury to White or Slaton), to USF (who seem to own us in Tampa), and to Cincy I think (likely a win but who knows with them). --WVU has to go to Rutgers (who want the payback for costing them the BCS), and has to visit USF (who upset them in Morgantown, costing them a BCS bid). --Rutgers does get WVU at home as well as USF, but U of L gets to assrape them in a big time payback in the season finale. --South Florida...eh they could be a dark horse to go about 9-3 but that's it. I think they will upset one of those 3 though.
