  1. I think it was mostly wishful thinking with Jacksonville since people are desperate for someone to either beat NE or give them a great game. Either way I nailed both of these games today, figuring the Jags would stay close for a half but the Pats would win comfortably in the end (I predicted it 34-17). Let's face it...it's going to take a great team to beat NE and Jacksonville simply isn't that great. The Jags are an 11-5 football team that has a good running game, good defense against weak teams, mediocre defense against excellent teams, and a boring dink and dunk pass attack regardless of whether it's Leftwich or Garrard. Now, Seattle/GB. I had the Packers winning it 35-14 and said it would be the rout of the weekend. Unless the Colts just assrape the Chargers tomorrow that will be the case. I think some people keep imagining that this is the 2005 Seahawks, but really that team wouldn't have won at Lambeau today much less this lesser 2007 team. The Colts better not fuck this up tomorrow. There is absolutely no reason why they shouldn't beat the piss out of San Diego, especially with Gates ailing. If the Colts don't win it is a flat out choke. I'd rather the Giants win tomorrow, since I'm bored with the Packers constantly having to go to Dallas. The amusing part of this is that the time Green Bay did win the Super Bowl with Favre they still never beat the Cowboys....the Panthers beat Dallas and then Green Bay beat Carolina. Maybe we'll see something similar here.
  2. Thing is I hardly think the 1990 Bills are in the same realm as this Patriots team. The Giants/Bills game was a fairly even matchup going in, Bills maybe a very slight favorite due to Hostetler at QB instead of Simms for NY. Here is one thing I don't think anyone has mentioned about the Jags/Pats matchup. The Patriots absolutely violated Jacksonville in the 2005 playoffs 28-3, and this was a pretty weak 10-6 Patriots going against a 12-4 Jaguars team. Are we seriously supposed to believe that Jacksonville has improved so much as to beat a Patriots team that is about 10x better than that 2005 Pats team? For some reason I don't see the Colts blowing out San Diego. Manning just sucks against that 3-4 defense and while I do think the Colts will win it won't be an amazing victory. One thing to note is that the Colts tend to be crappy if they get a bye week in the playoffs. They lost in 1999 to the Titans and also in 2005 to the Steelers when having the playoff bye, whereas when they get that first round squash over the Broncos or Chiefs it gives them some momentum and they get to the Super Bowl, AFC title game, etc. As far as Seattle/GB goes, Seattle is a sucker bet. Seattle is nothing away from home, and on a lesser level I wonder if Lambeau Field is for Hasselbeck what playing in Dallas is for Favre.
  3. Oh god, that promo is hilarious. He does nothing but rant about how everyone is gay in SF and that the town is right up Hogan's alley. Mean Gene flat out lost it during that interview and was visibly cracking up on camera. Was the new TNT and Legends show part of the typical Wed. update or was this added later than that?
  4. Harris doesn't really need any time in developmental anyway. I've always thought his ring style was very WWE friendly, but he also did enough different stuff that he could be acceptable in TNA. I don't know why WWE does that with some TNA guys. As in offering them an insulting development deal, when these guys have been featured nationally for quite a while.
  5. Bah I don't seem to have the Legends show. What section should it be listed under, just the Legends place?
  6. Jacksonville vs. Seattle is a matchup of death right there. It's ultra boring and frankly wouldn't even be much of a game since the Jags would smoke them. Besides, who the hell thinks Jacksonville is going all that far? Even if they pull off a near impossible feat and beat the Pats they would have nothing left for Indy or SD.
  7. Isn't it funny how some teams stay the same no matter who the coach is? St. Louis has always been this ultra slow, shitty garbage team ever since the Spoonhauer era. Then Lorenzo Romar took over and they pretty much played the same slow shit (which is amusing considering Romar's fast paced Washington teams). Then the one bald dude (Soderberg I think?) took over, and they still played boring slow shit. Now Majerus...same old shit. Yes, I'm still bitter about all those times U of L went to STL and came out with some yawn inducing 55-53 loss.
  8. I did a DVR of the show and will watch this weekend. This show at least sounds kinda decent. Now next week from what I saw in the spoilers....oh lord.
  9. I like that one too, the "We reassemble the nucleus!" promo. However the whole thing with Macho pulling the tights was a pretty lame way to continue a feud for another 4 months.
  10. The one argument I have against Abyss always being a ruthless monster is that a ruthless monster can only go so far. Cause eventually the monster heel will end up jobbing to the main babyface and then there's nothing you can do with him (see Umaga in WWE). Turning Abyss face or adding things to his character will prolong his career in TNA....though I'm not sure if this particular storyline is the way to go, haha.
  11. Pretty much how I feel about Harris. If he could ever improve his mic work I think he could be a big star. He can work really well and could make a nice addition to Smackdown.
  12. I did check the Gerweck site and this was on there, but let's see it confirmed by Meltzer, PWInsider, etc. That said, if this is true I like the signing. I've always thought Harris had something, kind of a cross between Bret Hart and Edge in his look. The only problem he has is a lack of charisma.
  13. I agree. First off, at the time I was a Bret fan and didn't really want to boo him, particularly when they were begging me to cheer a guy I found to be a sociopath (Austin). Pardon me for not wanting to cheer a guy who broke into a man's house on national TV! And yes, Bret's promos became quite repetitive since it's the same shit about how the USA sucks and is violent, etc. The problem is that he wasn't really FEUDING with anyone during this period since he was hurt, so there's no coherent match to build to with these rants. If it was "The USA sucks, Austin is a terrible role model, and I'm going to kick his ass this Sunday on PPV" then it might have some context. But at this point Bret never has another 1 on 1 match with Austin and no match with HBK either on the immediate horizon (Montreal was still another 6 months). Oh, and for what it's worth UT was in fact on the All Americans at Survivor Series 1993 with Luger and Co. to defend the USA against the evil foreign fanatics. Take that, Bret.
  14. Flair hasn't been on the last couple of NWA shows. Was he touring overseas or something during that period of time? On vacation?
  15. Should they really be doing rankings and #1 contender stuff when they already kinda have that with the MITB briefcase guys? I would think they should do that after those various guys cash in. I have the terrible feeling that the Armstrongs angle is going to lead to Billy Gunn turning on Road Dog and we'll that as a feud.
  16. This was a pretty good show. The wrestling was really solid on it, though the booking got a bit repetitive in terms of not having any real finishes.
  17. Yeah I turned over to CNN tonight to catch these results and was slightly surprised to see Hillary had won. Not "OMG" level shocked but it was surprising given the polls I'd seen in the past few days. Count me in on not knowing what the hell Giuliani is trying to accomplish. The guy was a front runner but for whatever baffling reason didn't bother to try in these early primaries to the point where now both Huckabee and McCain have more momentum than he does. This isn't a situation like with Hillary where she was in the thick of things in Iowa and then won NH....Giuliani isn't even on the radar in these states. He finished right around where Ron Paul finished. This group of Republicans is a bigger group of jobbers than the 1996 group. At least there Dole had some vestige of credibility and sanity.
  18. Okay let's take a look at the Pac 10. UCLA I won't argue with since they are of course a perennial. I don't know how well they can do in the tourney minus Afflalo, but we'll see. Arizona is in turmoil without Lute Olson there....don't expect much from them. Oregon has tanked and is no longer ranked. USC hasn't been that good and is no longer ranked. Stanford has been pretty decent against an "eh" schedule. That leaves Washington St. who may be undefeated right now but I don't buy them as any sort of real threat. Maybe it's that #255 SOS so far?
  19. I agree about wanting to see old school Global shows. I used to watch that every day after I got home from school. It was on at 4:00 on ESPN.
  20. This is a pretty long notice though. I can see doing a couple of jobs on TV and then leaving, but he's been jobbing out for about 2 months. I don't know what the hell is going on with this Nash/Joe stuff. Didn't Nash just walk out on him during a PPV match? How is Nash now in position to calm him down?
  21. How on earth is the ACC currently the #1 rated conf. in the RPI? Aside from UNC and Duke I don't see a hell of a lot there. Maybe Clemson since they played UNC tough. The Big East is certainly the best conference this year. I don't know if there's necessarily an easy FF pick like UNC, but it's certainly more balanced.
  22. How on earth would Regal/HHH go until WM? I mean it was pretty much settled last night when HHH beat Regal down. They might get 1 more match at the Rumble out of it since HHH can't be the Rumble itself, but that's it. Let's face it, we all know HHH is getting the shot at WM after winning the EC match at No Way Out. Frankly I don't see how Batista or Flair factors in here in terms of a title match. How about Batista vs. Flair at WM?
  23. Hillary's tankjob in the polls isn't really surprising. Let's face it, is there anyone out there who really ever wanted to vote for her? I liked Bill Clinton a lot when he was president, but that doesn't give her the right to simply show up and say "I'm here, now elect me dammit!" Hillary also sends out a bizarre vibe of "I want to be the first woman president and break the status quo" while also being a former First Lady and playing the "I have experience with the establishment" card. You can't have it both ways. Bigolsmitty, of course the Republicans are going to take KY. That's hardly a big prediction considering Bush took this state 60-40 in 2004. It could even be worse if Obama gets the nomination, cause let's just say I don't see Obama exactly polling well in KY outside of maybe Louisville and Lexington. For obvious reasons. That said, I doubt Obama is going to focus much on KY anyway. Where I think Obama is a dubious candidate is in the swing states (FL, OH, MO, AR, NV, etc.) where I worry that there will be a few too many redneck cretins who simply vote against him due to race. This is why it baffles me as to why Edwards is polling as low as he is. He's a bit bland to be sure, but he's not going to actively alienate voters and he is certainly the best Democrat in terms of getting southern votes. Hell if he just carried his home state of NC that would be better than what either Hillary or Obama would do. I read some vague article saying that Hillary might just drop out of the race if she doesn't do any better in the next couple of primaries. I wonder if that does happen if quite a bit of her supporters would drift over to Edwards in a "We gotta stop Obama" type move.
  24. I've always defended Nash going over Goldberg as booking that could have helped both men, but they didn't do any semblance of a decent followup to it. If Goldberg simply beats Nash in a rematch on that Jan. 4 Nitro then he's got the belt and the win streak is off his back. I think when all was said and done, WCW built around a major angle (with old stars) while the WWF built around younger stars. While Austin/McMahon was of course a major storyline that drew money, the WWF always pushed stars instead of just the angle. Thus when Austin/McMahon kinda ran its course they had the groundwork set for guys like The Rock, HHH, and so on to step up. History has shown that promotions who build around one main angle tend to flame out once that angle gets stale and runs its course. WCCW started its downturn once the Freebirds/Von Erichs rivalry had run its course and the Freebirds left (though there were of course other factors). The NWA/JCP hit a serious downturn once people got fed up with the 4 Horsemen constantly winning and the faces never got a lasting win.
  25. This Rumble has to have one of the weakest group of participants since the mid 1990s. Are Jericho and JBL not in the Rumble as well? Cause there's no HHH in it, no Jeff, etc. I suppose UT, Batista, HBK, and some others are in it but geez. What exactly is HHH doing at the PPV if he can't be in the Rumble?
