When did TNA take Hall back? I figured he was finished after no showing. I too noticed that horrid Cornette/Morgan segment, with Cornette yelling at him over booking all that goofy gimmick crap on the Christmas show, then Morgan showing him the bonus check and that the Office was thrilled with their ratings and matchmaking. That was such a disturbing and devious segment. Basically it said to the viewers: 1. Cornette is an out of touch old fool and if you agree with him about that booking then fuck you. 2. Morgan = Russo. 3. Constant gimmick matches are what people want to see and further what makes TNA's management happy. -

Man that sucks about PPVs being a different price for HD. I might be willing to check it out on a major show like the Rumble or WM, but not so much for just the usual monthly fodder PPVs. I wonder if they've already given up on Harry Smith? Yes he was wrong to do whatever he did to fail a test, but WWE was even more sleazy to call him up only to have someone to punish. -

The really hilarious thing on that Starrcade is that Erik Watts is out there doing a crappy looking STF in the tag match with Liger, and then later in the show Muta and Chono are out there doing STFs in an NWA world title match! If I'm Chono I would have been pissed at an inept rookie out there doing that move when I was going to use it in a title defense as a finisher. I disagree with Scott Keith's rant on that PPV. He said the show sucked hard and to avoid it. I thought Sting/Vader was a great match and the tag title match was terrific as well. -

In all fairness to Foley's book I never felt like he did much of that stuff in terms of constantly putting himself over or carrying on grudges. There were people he had problems with as bookers (Ole, Flair, Randy Hales in Memphis) but he mostly made his points and moved on. As far as the Bret/Konnan story Bret did in fact say that Konnan taught him the move. But the bit with Bret and his wife was a particular spot in a match where Bret was laying and caught a legdrop, then turned it into the Sharpshooter. -
While Siaki was certainly a forgettable X champ I still gotta go with Michael Shane (Matt Bentley) as the worst I've seen. I thought he was so lame. He was like watching a 3rd rate HBK doing friggin superkicks to finish people while these other X division guys were busting out crazy shit.

So Sting has in fact gone back to TNA for 2008, eh? I hadn't seen that reported yet, but I wouldn't doubt that it's true. I was trying to think of that blatant jobber to be Rumble filler and Kane fits the bill nicely. They can blow off the aborted Edge feud at least and since he's UT's brother they can have Edge take out Kane to prove a point to UT, etc. -
Also the 1985 Bears. Is it just me or are the 1993 Cowboys not remotely in the same league with the 72 Dolphins, 78 Steelers, and 85 Bears? That team was just 12-4 with a +147 differential, really just a standard team that won the Super Bowl. The 1992 Cowboys were 13-3 and had a +166, so why not that team instead? After all they beat a better Niners team on the road in the NFC title game and utterly maimed the Bills in the Super Bowl. I will say this, if the Patriots do go 16-0 and win the Super Bowl they would have to be considered the best team ever. Right now their differential on the season is +312, which is insane. I think the 1999 Rams had a +284.
-
They have been doing these hypothetical matchups on ESPN with Parcells and Berman putting their top 5 teams ever vs. the Patriots from this year. I found it odd that they mentioned the 1989 49ers rather than the 1984 team. I mention the 1984 team because they have come the closest to going undefeated of anyone in a 16 game season till this year (they were 15-1 and the 1 loss was by 3 to the Steelers). Also had a better differential than the 1989 team. They also beat the piss out of a much better Super Bowl opponent in the Dolphins with Marino (who were 14-2) than either the 85 Bears or the 89 Niners. I'm not necessarily saying the 84 Niners would beat the Patriots, but if you want to do such a dream match scenario I'd put them on the short list.

Okay I got the WCCW DVD for Christmas and I too was quite impressed with what I saw from Hernandez, at least the interview bits and match clips (I have yet to watch the 2nd disc). He seemed somewhat like a proto Ted DiBiase or Rock in some ways. Yes, his size was a possible issue but he wasn't much smaller than someone like Flair. All it would take is maybe 10 more lbs. of muscle and he'd be in that 235 range. I looked him up on Wikipedia and it said his real name was Charles Wolfe. Was he even really a latino at all, or was he like the guy in the first Police Academy?

Oh man, did mine ever suck. I had most of the main teams but the lesser division winners and the WC teams....I sucked. Here were my predictions back in the summer: AFC: Indianapolis (obvious pick and I was definitely right about the D being better) New England (obvious pick but I didn't expect them to be undefeated or anything) Cincinnati (team of the future and always will be...Steelers won the division) San Diego (not even Norv Turner can screw these guys up enough to miss the playoffs) Baltimore (one of the biggest meltdowns in recent memory, everyone got old in a hurry) Denver (just not that good) NFC: New Orleans (probably the most disappointing team, how could they not win a lame division?) Dallas (I actually thought this was an easy pick) Green Bay (Packers finished strong last year, I thought Favre had another run left) St. Louis (oh man that is about as bad of a pick as humanly possible...injuries galore though) Philadelphia (looks like they will barely miss the playoffs at 8-8 when 9-7 was needed) Chicago (injuries on D and the QB debacle hurt them)

Here are the final picks of the reg. season: Saturday Night Foregone Conclusion NE @ NYG: This is so disappointing. I was hoping for the Giants to need this game or want to go balls out, but it's not to be. Pats by 14, but I'm still thinking the Giants to take someone out. Sunday 1:00 SEA @ ATL: If the Seahawks can't win this one....well. Or are they resting people? Either way I'll take Seattle by 10. DET @ GB: Packers really can't afford a 2 game losing streak heading into the playoffs. Or maybe they could, but why not prevent it? GB by 7. SF @ CLE: The Browns will win this against the shockingly resurgent Niners. Cleveland by 6, but will it matter? JAC @ HOU: Jags have little to play for here and they always tend to lose one to Houston. Texans by 4 to finish .500. CAR @ TB: Tampa needs some sort of win heading into the playoffs and let's face it Carolina is pretty lame this year. Bucs by 8. BUF @ PHI: The Eagles just don't know when to give up the ghost. Philly by 11. NO @ CHI: Saints still have a slight playoff hope, but does anyone seriously think they will win this game? Bears by 10. CIN @ MIA: Miami got their one win and the Bengals of course need to do their usual to get to 7-9 and thus reduce their draft position like always. Sunday 4:00 DAL @ WAS: Redskins should win this regardless of what the Cowboys decide to do. No TO in this one and frankly I don't think Dallas is worth a crap without him. Skins by 10. KC @ NYJ: What a jobber matchup. I'll go with the Jets by 3, so they too can hurt their draft position. STL @ ARI: The Rams won't hurt their draft position though. Cardinals win by 13 and finish .500. SD @ OAK: SD is still playing for that #3 spot, so I think they try here. Chargers by 14. MIN @ DEN: Vikings basically blew their playoff chances and the Broncos will finish them off here. Denver by 4. PIT @ BAL: I don't think the Steelers could even rest people and lose here. Steelers by 10. Night game TEN @ IND: Let's face it, even if the Titans win are they really going to see the Colts again as a #6 seed? That would require beating the Patriots, and I certainly doubt the Colts would mind facing Tenn. in the AFC title game. Titans by 7.

Actually Styles has never been TNA world champion. He was the NWA champion a few times. Maybe it's a deal where TNA is distancing themselves from the guys who held that particular belt? Or maybe Russo is just insane and thinks he is using Styles correctly. -
The Jags may go 11-5 actually since they have zilch to play for and perennially struggle in Houston. And for the record I still don't think the Jags will even win a game in the playoffs. Yes, they beat both Pittsburgh and San Diego in the regular season. But they would have to win twice at Pittsburgh and I just can't see it for some reason, and San Diego at home should have just enough to get by. While the Chargers might get out of the first round, I doubt they get much further. Let's face it, they have had all of 2 wins over teams with winning records. One was the notorious Colts game where Manning threw 6 INTs and Vinatieri missed a 29 yarder, and the other was the Titans choking horribly after being up the entire game. In fact if it ends up SD vs. TN in the 1st round I wouldn't be too shocked if Tennessee won that game. Seattle might win one game since it's at home but they really aren't worth a crap. SOS is dead last at 32 and they have exactly ONE win over a team with a winning record, and that was the season opener vs. Tampa Bay.

I like Day-Lewis pretty well, just can't think of that all time mega classic he's ever been in. The other guys mentioned like Nicholson, Pacino, DeNiro....all of them have been in numerous classics. Sure, they all have crap on their resumes as well but how about a couple of these gems I saw for Day-Lewis: Stars and Bars (1988) Eversmile, New Jersey (1989) Maybe There Will Be Blood will be that one bonafide classic that is missing from Day-Lewis' resume.

WWE General Discussion - December 2007
cabbageboy replied to Hunter's Torn Quad's topic in The WWE Folder
Oh yeah Torrie was hot but that was 1999 and the point is that this is almost 2008 and she still can't do shit whatsoever. No offense to Cena but do we really need him doing a run in on Orton vs. HHH at WM? I would assume it's to cost Orton the title, which I guess gives Cena that first victim in a non title scenario when he returns (and let's face it, when Cena returns Orton is his bitch). I don't see Batista doing much of anything notable at WM. There's just nowhere to put him that's worth a damn. He'll be jobbed out of the Edge/UT scene. He makes zero sense on Raw and that quote Observer stuff said that whoever wins the Rumble HAS to challenge his show's champion. As in you can't just pick whoever you want. Batista vs. Lashley in a Hoss Match, and the amusing aspect of that match is that Lashley would need that win more and so I think he goes over. -
I saw the trailer for this before No Country For Old Men and it certainly looks intriguing. I wouldn't mind seeing a scenery chewing Day-Lewis performance similar to Gangs of New York. While I won't necessarily argue whether he is or isn't the top actor of the past 25 years the reason he doesn't immediately jump to one's mind is that he's simply not in much stuff. He wasn't in anything at all from The Boxer in 1997 till 2002's Gangs of New York. He also followed up on his big Oscar momentum from My Left Foot....by being in nothing from 1989 to 1992, when he was in Last of the Mohicans.

Yeah Sweeney just wasn't on that many places but I did go see it this weekend and it rules. This movie will have legs I think and keep doing that same amount for a while. If I recall Chicago never really had a big week but just that steady 10 million or so for a long time.
-
Oh yeah. I wish I could find some of those. Checked out youtube but didn't quite find the gems I was looking for. Seems like they used to have some of those RVD ECW promos too.

When I got home today and checked these scores I seriously thought that Packers score was a misprint. Who the hell gets beat 35-7 by the Bears with Kyle Orton? With home field throughout the playoffs at stake? I wonder now if the Packers will just rest everyone next week since they have nothing to play for, but I wouldn't be thrilled with a 2 game losing streak going into the playoffs either.

I just took a look at a table with teen pregnancy rates. Louisiana is actually just #19 on the list. #1 was Nevada, #2 was Arizona, #3 Mississippi (okay this I expected), #4 is New Mexico, and #5 is Texas. I'm from KY and KY was just #25 on this list. South Carolina was #17. This was the Guttmacher Institute report on teen pregnancy by the way, in case anyone wondered who did this study.

If Ed Reed played some QB and ruled it would only serve to make him even more The Man. It's hilarious that the Patriots/Dolphins game is on at 4:15, as though somehow that's an epic game people want to see. There's a 90% chance that game is over by halftime.

I've said it before but Styles needs to go to WWE, even if it's to just fuck around with Jamie Noble and get turned down by chicks. If he's going to be buried constantly he might as well make some $$ doing it. Anyway, is TNA really worth hating on this much? It's kind of like making fun of a retarded kid that just shit his pants. -

I still have no idea where all this Batista vs. Orton or HHH talk is coming from. First off, Batista is on Smackdown and in theory shouldn't face either guy, unless he goes to Raw somehow. Thing is, no current storyline sending him to Raw makes any sense, especially with his issues with Edge. Second, it is going out of their way to book a match that won't be worth shit anyway. Is the world clamoring for ANOTHER HHH vs. Batista match? Does anyone even want to see Batista vs. Orton to begin with? Keep Batista on SD, then do him vs. Lashley at WM in a cross promotion match. It's that roid boy vs. roid boy match that always draws some sort of interest, and it should at least be better than Lesnar vs. Goldberg. -

To be honest I watched this tonight on DVR and it was amusing enough. It's just their silly Christmas themed show, hardly worth all the vitriol it has gotten online. WWE has done plenty of these shows in the past and didn't include a good ladder match for the main event. -
Provided the Packers win tomorrow I think they can get home field. Without TO I don't really see the Cowboys winning at Washington next week, since they looked pretty crappy in that 2nd half.
