  1. If there is one thing in this millenium that we can always count on it is Oklahoma choking big time in a major bowl. Wow. They had a WVU tonight that lost their coach and also had lost their nat. title shot after losing to Pitt....and still WVU kicked their asses. In all honesty though when WVU is clicking on all cylinders they're a better team anyway.
  2. Edwin, I haven't been to Jacksonville but haven't ever heard good things about it. What's so horrible about that city?

I'm going to see this tomorrow. Gotta admit with Michael Cera in it and a pregnancy plotline it sounds like Knocked Up meets Superbad. It might not end up like that, but it's the vibe I got from the trailer.
  4. I watched the Black Saturday show and to be honest I didn't think it was all that bad. It was very weird seeing Vince there on TBS and they kept the exact same WCW music! I've always thought on some level that the NWA purists were full of shit though. It's not like their usual array of jobber squashes and interviews were much better than the WWF's jobber matches and interviews. Maybe the interviews, depending on if it was Flair, Dusty, etc.
  5. The thing is, if you start bringing up the ratings on TV you become like TNA and it's embarrassing. Some things need to not be mentioned. On this topic I thought the NWO angle got insanely played out after maybe 5 months. It was great initially because we weren't sure what was going on or who was joining. Once everyone was locked in and joined the group though it was obvious that these guys were simply a faction within WCW's roster rather than an actual invading group.
  6. Well here are the ages for the various TNA guys (no women). Abyss: 34 Styles: 29 Shelley: 24 BG James: 38 Dustin Rhodes: 38 Booker T: 42 Sabin: 25 Chris Harris: 34 Christian: 34 Elix Skipper: 30 Eric Young: 28 Hernandez: 34 Homicide: 30 James Storm: 32 Jay Lethal: 22 Jeff Jarrett: 40 (if we are considering him active) Johnny Devine: 33 Judas Mesias: 32 Kaz: 30 Nash: 48 (if we consider him exactly active) Kip James: 44 Kurt Angle: 39 Lance Hoyt: 30 Matt Morgan: 29 (is he a wrestler right now?) Petey Williams: 26 Raven: 43 (again, is he really active?) Rellik: 30 Rhino: 32 Rick Steiner: 46 Robert Roode: 30 Samoa Joe: 28 Scott Steiner: 45 Senshi: 28 (is he still there?) Shark Boy: 32 Sonjay: 25 Sting: 48 (is he even there?) Brother Ray: 36 Brother D-Von: 35 Tomko: 31 I won't do the avg. ages since some of these guys might skew the results (like Nash and Sting) and I'm not sure if they are exactly on the roster or considered wrestlers anymore.
  7. It's easy to be a prisoner of the moment, but Georgia did nothing to deserve to be in the national title game. They didn't win the SEC, nor did they even win the SEC East. In fact the team that did win it (Tennessee) squashed UGA. I mean when you're getting owned by a JTTS Vols team, what does that really say? Though really it was the bizarre 16-12 loss to South Carolina that cost UGA.
  8. I get the feeling Cloverfield will be one of those things where fans of a particular producer/director (Whedon, Abrams) will care way more about it than the public at large. Of course I'm going to see the new Indiana Jones and Batman movies. Though I have to ponder...what is this, 1989?
  9. Maybe it's because I have less than perfect eyesight, but to me HD is the best thing ever invented by mankind (that and air conditioning, heh). If the HD you guys have seen didn't impress then all I can say is you didn't look at the right TV. There are some less than spectacular HD sets at stores, but if you check out something like a Sony 1080p set it will make your jaw drop. The only hassle that an HD set brings is the constant flipping to different channels to watch stuff. Cable is Video 6, DVD/VCR is Video 4, and there are about 5 other channels you can use to plug in various stuff.
  10. No. Let's be honest all USC did was squash the piss out of a team that had zero business being in the BCS. Illinois is a nice Outback Bowl level team, or Capital One team. That Rose Bowl was a farce on paper and it was a farce when actually played. It wasn't hard to see this coming from Hawaii. Though to be honest with the goofy 2 teams from a conf. rule I don't know who you put in that spot instead. Missouri got utterly whored by the BCS of course, yet Kansas at 11-1 should probably be in as well. Why choose Kansas over Missouri if you're the Orange Bowl? Is their fanbase that much more substantial? But here's reality: Hawaii hasn't been much all year. They have needed miracle luck to beat the likes of Louisiana Tech, San Jose St., Nevada, and a Pac 10 jobber like Washington. Hawaii is more like a 9-3 or 8-4 team talent wise that got lucky as hell and ended up 12-0 and in the BCS. Boise St. wasn't like that last year or their other great year in 2004....they largely wrecked their inferior opponents. Utah in 2004 was a badass team that crushed people.
  11. I am very interested in that May 12 Raw since I vaguely remember that RVD debut but it was over 10 years ago and I'd like to see it again.
  12. I agree that WWE has a good mix of veteran and younger talent right now, lots of guys in the solid late 20s and early 30s range too. There can be extreme ends on both sides. WCW in the late 90s had way too old of a roster, especially the main event scene. However there is such a thing as having too young of a roster. While watching the WCCW DVD this past week I couldn't help but notice how nearly everyone getting a push in World Class was in their 20s. I think you need some actual veteran leadership on top of a promotion, whereas there the veteran guys were more supporting players in the midcard.
  13. Superbad is actually quite a bit better than Ferris. Personally I always thought Ferris suffered from the usual John Hughes "hilarious one minute, serious and whiny the next" syndrome. That and there's no way they could do all that stuff in Chicago in such a short amount of time. To be honest, Knocked Up suffers from this same problem (hilarious/serious) but at least there I can sorta see it. Something in Superbad just clicked for me, maybe it reminded me the most of certain aspects of HS. Like the feelings of "I gotta nail this chick now before we graduate" or making grandiose (yet vague) plans that never quite work out the way it was intended. See the point of American Pie is that by the end they have to get laid. But in Superbad they really don't make such an elaborate plan, it's just some vague notion of getting drunk and getting laid.
  14. Seattle vs. Washington: I have badmouthed the Seahawks almost nonstop for the past few weeks, and the Redskins have come on strong to make the playoffs. So who do I pick? Seattle of course. If nothing else they did go 7-1 at home and teams that are JTTS types that get psycho hot tend to cool off in the playoffs. Seahawks by 7. San Diego vs. Tennessee: The Titans quite literally were handed a playoff spot and from what I saw the other night they have little chance of winning this one. If they couldn't beat the Chargers in TN then I don't see it happening in SD. Chargers by 10. Tampa Bay vs. NY Giants: The playoffs would be much, much more interesting if the Giants won here. Oddly enough I think the near win vs. NE will help more than it will hurt, whereas if they had beaten the Pats I think they have a major letdown here. Giants are also 7-1 on the road. NY by 4. Pittsburgh vs. Jacksonville: It amazes me that 90% of the board thinks that the Jags will just waltz into Heinz Field and squash the Steelers. They won by 7 a few weeks ago but let's not forget this was right after the Steelers had played NE and were likely dragging. This will be tough, manly football but in the end I think the Steelers advance by 6 and a bunch of experts will whine about not getting the riveting NE/JAX matchup.
  15. Raw Roulette is nowhere near as random and bizarre as TNA. At least those shows are announced ahead of time and people know there will be crazy gimmick matches, and this is a fairly rare happening. TNA just books this shit on a weekly basis with no build or reason.
  16. People will point to the Bengals game as the one that screwed the Browns but I can't help but think back to that early game vs. Oakland. Cleveland had the FG but Lane Kiffin did his bullshit Mike Shannahan impersonation and called that split second timeout. Then the rekick was blocked. That crap ended up costing the Browns that game, and in the end, the playoffs. Fun with playoff teams and their differentials: AFC: New England (16-0) (+315) Indianapolis (13-3) (+188) San Diego (11-5) (+128) Pittsburgh (10-6) (+124) Jacksonville (11-5) (+107) Tennessee (10-6) (+4) NFC: Dallas (13-3) (+130) Green Bay (13-3) (+144) Seattle (10-6) (+102) Tampa Bay (9-7) (+64) New York Giants (10-6) (+22) Washington (9-7) (+24) The AFC has one of the toughest overall fields I've ever seen. A whopping 5 of 6 teams have over +100 in differential. I know someone will insist that Seattle can go far, but they were only 3-5 on the road so if they can even beat the Redskins they will be toast the next round.
  17. If I must endure the Patriots in the Super Bowl I better not also have to endure the Cowboys with Tony Romo. That is pretty much the epitome of a heel vs. heel matchup. At least with NE vs. GB there would be the cool "Can Favre win one more big one and beat an invincible juggernaut?" storyline. And to be honest, we already know that NE will crush the Cowboys. I could stomach the Colts vs. Cowboys, Patriots vs. Packers, Colts vs. Packers....but please not Patriots vs. Cowboys. It feels bizarre saying this since I've never really hated the Cowboys, but I think this year that they are wildly lucky and Romo is insanely overrated. The Patriots may have had some breaks, but at least have won with their own skills for the most part. I've quite literally seen Buffalo and Detroit hand Dallas games. The Cowboys are basically a slightly more talented version of the Bears with Rex Grossman.
  18. Yeah I distinctly remember the alleged meaning of King of Cable (basically it meant whoever won would be considered the best wrestler on cable TV). But what I mean is....what the hell did it really MEAN? Sometimes KOTR at least means you get a title shot at SummerSlam or at least a big push in the future. Vader lost the KoC finals but beat Ron Simmons mere days later for the belt. Now that I think about this, did Sting actually have a real WCW title run from roughly 1993 until the Starrcade 1997 fiasco? I think he held the bogus NWA/Big Gold Belt/International title a couple of times, but not the WCW belt.
  19. The one thing I can say for TNA though is that none of these shows are boring. It might not be that good, but it's certainly not dull.
  20. Yeah I don't see HHH vs. Vince at all because even Vince knows that no one on earth would buy him having a shot at HHH. I'm sick of all the Vince bullshit in terms of him attempting to wrestle because at the end of the day he can't win any of these feuds, since that is quite literally he himself burying his own top talent. I don't think SD is doing this same sort of angle. Vicki is tormenting Batista to some extent but he isn't getting the WM title shot anyway, and I don't recall him being barred from the Rumble.
  21. With Foley sure he badmouthed Marc Mero a lot but honestly it's just Mero so who really gives a shit? In terms of Flair he certainly said Flair was one of the best, if not the best, to ever don a pair of tights. He just didn't like his booking very much. Personally I found that odd since it was under Flair's booking that Cactus Jack did those crazy hardcore brawls vs. the Nasty boys.
  22. I have to admit after watching that trailer I don't really think this looks as good as the first one. What is the endgame here? With the first at least we knew they HAD to finally get to White Castle for there to be a payoff.
  23. I'm certainly not a Patriots fan and frankly I think going 16-0 is insane. They have dodged about 4 different bullets (Colts, Eagles, Ravens, and tonight). It reminds me of UK basketball in 2003, of all things. UK had a crazy 20+ game win streak, went 16-0 in the SEC, won the SEC tourney, and then lost to Marquette in the Elite 8. I've always thought they could have used 1 loss in there near the end of the season to jolt them back into reality and regain focus. I still think the Colts can beat them, provided the Colts don't pull their usual "lose a home playoff game after having the bye" crap.
  24. Well, at least U of L is getting Padgett back in January. With him back and Palacios as well hopefully they can get their legs and thus end up being as good as advertised in the preseason. UK loses to San Diego today. Dear god.
  25. Yeah, WCW had a real air of aimlessness about it at that point in time. I mean what did it really matter if you win the Battlebowl? What did it really matter if Sting or Vader won the King of Cable tourney? What the hell does being the King of Cable even MEAN? In actuality it meant so much that Vader (who lost that KoC finals) won the world title from Ron Simmons right after that Starrcade.
