  1. I don't think Carter's going to get that deal he's looking for. If he's willing to take ~2 million, I wouldn't mind him on second line on the left side with Savard and Murray. He is capable defensively, which would make him the best defensive player on that line. 2/4.2 million (2.1 against the cap) would be my only offer.
  2. The last time I ate at Perkins, I was barely back home and in the door before I got hit with stomach cramps and sonic diarrhea. The time before that, they managed to fucking burn PANCAKES. PANCAKES. FFS, I can make pancakes without burning them. Say what you must about Denny's, but at least you know what you're getting from them. To go back and quote Lance Storm, "Denny's...It's not like you expected to leave happy."

Ted Williams for the Red Sox. Rice is pretty well liked among the Sox fans that I know down here. Most think that he's a hall of famer (as do I), but I don't know if I'd call him a face of the franchise player. Yaz is Yaz. Cy Young would certainly be the face of the Red Sox had he not pitched 250 years ago. I can't believe that they even put Clemens on the Red Sox list. Sox fans love Johnny Pesky, but I'm not surprised he's not on the list. The 2004 title was shared with Johnny just as if he'd helped them win the title.
  4. I can't be bothered to find a link, but Joe and Jerry just read a statement on WEEI during the Royals/Sox game that said that Gammons exceeded doctor's expectations and left the hospital today. Godspeed to Gammons. Hope he's back soon. I bought his cd saturday night and it will likely be arriving wednesday.
  5. If I want to eat at Applebee's, I'll go eat at Chili's. That may not make sense to anyone else but me.

Royals coming to the Fens. I think they should be swept in no short order. After that abysmal series against the A's, the Red Sox need to start playing like a first place team.
  7. I want a Dwight bobblehead.
  8. Chick Flick. How many girls want to go see POTC or Superman or Click. Plus Anne Hathaway has decent success. Hoping Anne Hathaway shows off her goodies again.
  9. He may not have been THE reason, but he was one of the reasons after his atrocious performance in game 1. Miller wasn't great either, but Emery looked lost at times in that game. He's a rookie goalie, of course he's going to be lost at times. Which is why Ottawa as team has to take some of the pressure of him which they didn't in Game 1, the team basically expected Emery to win the game by himself, which is dumb. Yeah, those six goals the Sens scored really kept the pressure on Emery. I can't believe those selfish bastards expected him to not give up seven goals. I'm not saying he shouldn't shoulder some of the blame, but the Senators just stopped playing defense late in that game. Not...really. They played as tight as they could. Buffalo got some rebounds and put them in. Rebounds are Emery's responsibility. Oh and go ahead and try to explain Drury's game-winning shot that Emery treated like a live grenade.

Probably just the forgettable season they're having. I did the same thing last year with Marlins tickets that I got from work.

  12. I think there are going to be wholesale changes by the time Gerber's contract is up. I would be incredibly surprised to see him still in Ottawa in three years. Gerber has good numbers in the regular season, but he's yet to make a big impression in the playoffs. I agree with Chris. I think Muckler may be losing it.
  13. So you posted M-A Fleury's stats...because? He's struggled in front of an absolute shit defense. They've somewhat improved their overall team defense, meaning that they might as well finally make them their #1 and not waste money on Hasek.
  14. Why Pittsburgh? Wouldn't they want M-A Fleury to step in and start being a serious NHL goaltender and not risk their entire season on Hasek's wonky legs? I'd say Hasek goes to Florida.
  15. I know, but I see the Bruins without an enforcer or physical presence outside of the Big Z. Then I see L'il Mike Ribeiro skating without a care across the middle of the ice and getting hit by Chara so hard that we all know that Mikey ain't faking it this time. Pair him with Alberts and they could end lives.
  16. Only if DLR embarrasses himself with more bluegrass VH.

The antics are understandable. My precious Bruins crashed and burned last year and I felt the same way that Bruiser feels.

Look out everyone! Czech's trying to be humorously relevant! Please show me where Red Sox fans at TSM have pulled that crap that I bolded. And for reference, the weekly baseball threads have been non-stop Bruiser bitching about the Cubs moreso than any Red Sox fan who happens to bring something up. But I wouldn't expect you to know that. You'd actually need to have a grasp on what you're talking about to know that. Maybe you weren't posting these trades, but all those four way trades involving Manny, like 29 of them, were getting tiresome. Yeah, that was Frigidsoul. And if that's all there is, it was like...what. Seven months ago?

Have the Sawx go 20 under and see if Red Sox Nation is still so complacent. True. I'm not denying that. And I wasn't throwing you under the bus, just making a point.
  20. Chara too. He could feasibly kill a member of the Habs this season.
  21. ...Wait and see how that works out though. If he didn't like playing in Boston, where hockey is greeted with mostly apathy, he's in for a rude awakening. The price is OK, but I'll wait until Sergei shows any of the usual frailty that he showed in Boston.

Just so you can complete the hilariousness, the NHL off-season thread is a few threads down. Make sure to make a lot of awesome jokes about the Whalers and other subjects that ceased being relevant in 2002.

How does it affect the overall product if it allows a player to go who normally wouldn't get the chance to go (Vernon Wells, who last appeared in the game in 2003). Last I checked, the game was played last night and Manny wasn't on the team...and the world didn't end. And it had a great ending! So, Manny not going affected the game how? ... ... Exactly. But by all means, let's suspend him for three games for playing with a torn meniscus.

I'm a proponent of the rule suggestion that says if you miss the All-Star game, you have to sit out the next game/series. It's a minor, minor penalty to the team, but it provides at least some incentive to the player to attend. And if he's really hurt, the extra rest should benefit. A player would get 12 at bats in a series. If Manny sits out, you replace a .300 hitter with a .250 hitter. That's 1-2 hits on average. It's not a lot. So to sum up: Because Manny was playing injured for his team in a 19 inning game but chose to skip an exhibition game, he should be suspended by mlb for three games and further penalize the team by taking the bat out of potential mvp David Ortiz's hands by having the likes of Trot Nixon protect him in the lineup. Let's take the rule to other sports. All NFL players that are elected to, but skip the Pro Bowl will be suspended for the first game of the season. All NBA players that skip the All-Star game will be suspended for the first six games of the second half (baseball plays about twice as many games as the NBA). Even better, all NHL players that choose not to play in the Olympics to represent their country are suspended for six games. Because it was his first All-Star game.
