  1. Alonzo is probably the funniest of all the winners, including Heffron. Heffron was one of my favorites, but I've seen/heard him repeat material too much.
  2. He didn't really "retire" as much as he gave up his position as team president to Chiarelli. Sinden will stay on as a senior advisor to the elder Jacobs.

Papelbum? I'd hardly consider Papelbon to be the problem with the Red Sox right now. Especially when you consider that his ERA is still under 1 (which it has been all season). I realize that you're not that "big" into numbers, so I'll break it down for you. Yanks are 3 (three) games up on the Red Sox...there are still 9 (that's nine) games between the two teams head to head. Now, like I said, you're not big into numbers, but try to follow me here: Yankees are 3 games up over Boston. When they play head to head, that means that which ever team wins gains a game on the team that loses. There are 9 games remaining in head to head competition between the two teams. Hopefully you managed to get that... Hopefully you manage to get this . . . the Sox are getting run by the D-Rays and the Royals aka two of the worst teams in MLB after dropping 2 of 3 against Cleveland. Most importantly the Yankees are hot, and could easily win 6 of 9 and then Boston's dead and buried since Chicago and Minnesota won't both end up tanking the same way Boston is. Winning 6 out of 17 is problematic regardless of how many games are left against the team pulling away from you. But keep being a wiseass as Boston's season is slipping away. If Papelbon struggles at all, and he's due for a bad stretch, they'll be 8 out by September 1st and the last 4 games against the Yanks won't even matter. I'm not denying that they're slumping. But I'm not giving up on them. My response was you trashing Papelbon (the AL ROY) because he lost a fucking game. Compared to the numerous games where he's come in and slammed the door. He lost? Big fucking deal. As I said, his ERA is still under 1. He lost a game? OH NOES!!!! But yes, let me abandon all faith in the team because they're going through a bad stretch.

They'll be in it down the stretch. I don't think they're a shoe-in to make the playoffs, but I think that the big pieces of the lineup and pitching staff are good enough to keep them in it.
  6. Actually, Carruth was probably thinking "I wish I had hid in the back of an SUV." Probably would have been a bit more comfortable.

The Red Sox need to rape the Royals this week. Time to go on a roll. They've looked bad against Cleveland and Tampa, two teams that they should have blown out of the water.

  14. What the hell is Barnyard?
  15. From what I can tell, he's a nice enough guy. His problem is playing his position. When the bad part of your game is defense and you're a DEFENSEman, you'll bounce around the league too. A few teams have tried to convince him to move to wing to suit his speed and offensive awareness, but his response is always "I'm a defenseman. That's my position." Not really Dave. Tawts and pwyars.

It's quite possible. Remember that any team that claims Jones is potentially responsible for his contract. So they turned down Crisp/Hansen for someone who would actually have to clear waivers? Kind of a stupid move.
  21. Looks like a fixer-upper mos def. Best of luck with it.
  22. You've got the virus. Get a robe and some broth.
  23. I'm trying to get the girlfriend out of work early. One of the few movies I want to see opening night.
  24. Boyes isn't the one I'm worried about leaving, Bergeron is. I think this was a compromise between the two sides. When these two years are up, I fully expect a long-term contract to be waiting for Boyes. I'd offer Bergeron the Hemsky contract (6 years, 24 million).

Maybe not, but there's an outside chance. It depends on how much Manny wants to play. He's averaged ~124 rbi over the last 10 seasons...he'd need about 6 more seasons to get the record...
