  1. Owen Hart was to win the IC title at Over The Edge Keith has repeadtly said this and that he got it directly from the sheets (don't ask) but somehow I sincerly doubt "The Blue Blazer" was walking out of Over The Edge with the IC title. Blazer was still treated as a joke, the desent from the roof was supposed to end in Owen doing a Flair Flop on the turnbuckle. If Owen was booked to win the IC title I would think it would have been the next night or soon after "defending his good friend The Blue Blazer's" dignty or something Steve
  2. Doesn't Billy Joel's "You May Be Right" start with squeeling wheels and a crash? Here is something in reverse, George Strait was given a song called "Love Without End, Amen" where the song writer mentions a year when the singer's son would be born, Strait had it changed to reflect the year his own son was born Another Billy Joel one, "Famous Last Words" is the last song on the River Of Dreams album (may have been the last produced, I'm not sure) and sometime after the album came out he basically said he was done making pop-rock records and concentrating on other projects and such John Denver sang "I'm Leaving On A Jet Plane Rumors about duets between artists doing cheating songs for example Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood did "In Another's Eyes" and shortly thereafter both ended up getting divorced and have now been together for a few years now Steve
  3. I know, I just thought it should be added to the conversation, one of the few times I can ever think of this happening where a future HOFer will come to a town just as his career goes to pot, so when his career finally wraps up writers in that town think that he is no longer HOF worthy, when in a more national scope he still is quite a future HOFer Steve
  4. John Lennon in "Come Together": Shoot me Harrowingly pyschic... Steve
  5. Been hearing several voters say they would NOT vote for McGwire and even used the "Without steriods he is no better than Dave Kingman" type of arguments Which is ironic considering commentators have said the reason McGwire said what he said at the hearing was so he could "protect" his legacy, so instead he made it worse Steve
  6. He does have a black mark if New York writers have their say Heard a writer this morning say his last three years have caused him to rethink his qualifications Steve
  7. Huh? That might be the strangest thing I've ever heard in regards to blood in wrestling. Why wouldn't we notice this attached goose skin? How is said goose skin attached? Super glue? Also, wouldn't perspiration cause for possible slippage of the "goose skin" or whatever (capsule, ect) and possibly cause hardway "accidents" Actually (and this when I was 7-8) I thought the Muta Scale/Crissom Mask stuff was "half movie blood" or something because a wrestler would blade early and later in the match you could only see a small, paper cut size gash on the forehead and I'd be "No way THAT much blood came from something that small!" Steve
  8. Just had a reverse one today, though probably not in sports, I was marching in the St Pats parade here in NYC as a member of the Emerald Society "Friends and Family" of the NYPD arm and were behind two people that kept getting cheers the entire freaking route and kept acknowledging the crowd the entire way. And I kept feeling like asking them as The Rock would say "Who in the BLUE HELL are you?" One of them bore a slight resemblance to Mayor Mike Bloomberg so I guess he was connected to NYC poltics or something Steve
  9. Somehow I don't see Ani rushing off to save some princess he's only seen in a hologram just to tag along on some noble quest because the Empire has interest in two droids that he owns Steve
  10. Do you think he would have been so quick to try and save Darth Vader? Sure at some point the good man that Luke is would have kicked in and said "Yeah he's worth saving" but the whole point of Luke reaching out was because Ben (and probably Owen) told him that his father was a good man But in fact, Anikan is NOT a "good man" by any stretch (and not just because of the bad acting from Jake and Hayden) and a man who was easily suduced into turning over to the darkside. The man was Darth Vader long before whatever happens in III that ultimatley turns him into the Sith machine So, if Luke had known what a "whiney, petulant, selfish" bastard that Anikan was, would he be so quick to try and find the good man that he thought was still in Vader? Steve
  11. Austin/Owen worked a match that night (Survivor Series 97) so they would have to talk to work out the match Difference between talking in the social sense and talking in a "Look we have a job to do, lets do this" way I'm sure Mike Piazza and Roger Clemens talked prior to the All Star Game in 2004 and they HATE each other Steve
  12. I belive the reason was because Austin doesn't do well at funerals. I don't think anyone does well at funerals. You show up to pay your respects to the family. A simple "I'm sorry about your loss" is suffice. Maybe he was afraid someone may catch him crying and thought that would be death to his gimmick or something . . . I dunno. Can't break kayfabe for a few freaking minutes?
  13. Can't believe I forgot a classic Doo Woop song (I THINK its the Drifters but don't quote me) "Save The Last Dance For Me" During the last month or so of college that song was one of the ones in my head for a while Billy Joel's own swan song to actual singing "Famous Last Words" is a good one Going back to country for Clint Black's "Leaving Here A Better Man" and Kathy Mattea's "Walking Away A Winner" work in a way If you want a fun, offbeat country song, Tim McGraw's "My Next Thirty Years" could work going back to why I like "The River" so much, kind of a "moving forward" song as opposed to remebering the past as many songs on this thread are, and that is what I always thought a graduation should be, just looking forward to that next chapter. Sure the years were fun and will always be a part of you no matter what you do or where you go (in that vein I think a part of you is still in that place that you graduated from whether you were a athlete, student gov member, or just simply on a class roster everyone who ever went there left a unerasable mark on that place) , but there is still so much to be written and said in a life. In that vein, maybe The Animals' "We've Gotta Get Out Of This Place" works! Steve
  14. What he said at the Morrow eulogy seems, well, self serving. Bascially pimping the movie the whole time. Are you kidding me? Kind of made Morrow out to be more than he was in order to "publicize" Morrow's "final apperance" Pure a-hole Steve
  15. They kind of were grooming him as an Austin opponent, allegedly based on Austin's real last name being "Williams" or some stupid thing. Makes sense considering how bad Austin was deterioating at that stage in his career that they'd bring in "hosses" that could let Austin do a brawling style. Actually had they pulled the JBL gimmick during the height of the Austin era, it might actually have worked now that I think of it... Makes for an interesting What If question. Is JBL just at the wrong time.... Or just plain wrong! Steve
  16. Personally, for college/high school stuff I'd go with Garth Brooks' "The River" yeah its country music but it speaks to the whole "Closing one chapter and beginning a new one" that the end of a college or high school year should be about "And I will sail my vessel/till the river runs dry/like a bird upon the wind/these waters are my sky/I'll never reach my destination/if I never try/so I will sail my vessel/till the river runs dry..." Billy Joel's "I Loved These Days" is good only for the last verse "And so before we end, and then begin/lets drink a toast to how its been/A few more hours to being complete/A few more nights on satin sheets/A few more times I get to say/I loved these days" Any version of "Forever Young" or "My Way" (the Anka (sung by Sintara, Elvis, Sid, ect) written one) works, Somehow "American Pie" kind of works (well if you went to Fairfield or Iona maybe) Beatles "In My Life" is another good one Going back to Garth Brooks, "The Dance" is WAY to sad for anything that is meant to be a happy occasion so that goes on the "Bad" list. Also on the bad list, can "Time Of Your Life (Good Riddance)" be banned from EVER being used in this context? Almost as bad as "Born In The USA" being used as a "Pro America" context. All because Seinfeld used it in the final episode I guess... Steve
  17. Never mind, I posted it in the right folder, please delete...
  18. Actually, it looks like Rider-Niagara in the finals. I really hope the Purple Eagles pull this one out. I just can't cheer for a team named Rider in the NCAA's. I meant Niagara/ I don't know why I was thinking Canisus...
  19. No, thatwas after Wrestlemania. I Benoit was tired of taking orders from Angle as they beat up The Rock, so he turned face finally. yea and when kurt took them out of benoits tights during a match and kissed them (ewwwww) then it may have been another time, he got them back but they turned out to be fakes planted by chris . BTW, now that Angle is showing off his "authentic gold meal" isnt it stupid all the times someone stole his medals and he freaked out (they were replicas so it dont matter) and why did have more than one anyhow (he only won i gold medal at the olympics, I suppose the others were from other amateur championships?) and Disco dancing in the konnan video was classic stuff. I once met DI and complemented him on that great parody. Rock and Bulldogs feud was not over the dog popp, it was over Bulldog turning heel on rock while the special ref and costing him a bullrope match against hhh on sd leading to unforgiven 99. the dog poop thing happened on a raw leading to no mercy so it wasnt really the cause of the feud, but a terrible build to it (not unlike HHHs dog Lucy being the last major build to wm 18) and tatanka really started actually "feuding" with martel after wm 8 when Rick stole his feathers (and he put them on his captains hat lol) finally ended at survivor series 92 when tatanka again pinned rick this time in a longer match. I think the second one is from Atlanta as well, if not its a World Championships one. By the way, the reaction from the face announcers when it came to Angle's medals being stolen depending on wheither Angle was face or heel is just laughable When Angle was a heel and it happened (Benoit) Angle was too much of a "whiner" and cared "a little too much about a couple of stupid medals" but when he was a face and it happened (Austin) he was completely justified in being upset because they were a treasured and symbolic momento of his accomplishments and they were the embodiment of Angle's character, without them he was "less of a man" In other words its like someone steals a Super Bowl ring, or someone else's Olympic medals (other than someone in Pro Wrestling) Steve
  20. Looks like Rider-Canisus in the MAAC finals tomorrow night. See ya in November...
  21. Go Fairfield in the MAAC! Just had to say it!
  22. Don't forget the unfortunate happenstance of corporate naming rights, either the company goes BYE BYE (Pro Player in Miami) gets renamed in corporate mergers or aquasitions (Shamut, err Fleet, err Bank of America? Center in Boston) and of course if the company is embroilled in the mother load of embarrissing scandals. That would be the home of the Houston Astros, the park formerlly known as Enron Field Steve
  23. Soon after Jericho was WWF bound and got buried the rest of his time in WCW, end of angle and see ya as Y2J
  24. There are people out there that wonder if that wasn't Rock's and WWF's way of telling WCW and Juvy to "cease and desist" with the "Rock-Like" gimmick Juvy had when Rock started coming out with the "SHUT UP JUICE" line
  25. First of all. I want to see what happens when Charles Dolan is asked to sell the Rangers, ditto with the Flyers, Red Wings, Maple Leafs, ect Second, that means you are buying all of the teams for what, 100 mil each? Give me a break. Again teams like the Red Wings are worth much more. Plus do you REALLY think the owners of the Rangers are going to give up the Rangers, part of the whole Madison Square Garden conglomeriate? (with the Knicks, the building itself (which means they could very well kick the new owners out the the Garden) and the network along with other enities) Third, okay, so that means there really isn't much integrity because since one person owns all the teams, that means the cities he thinks will do well, will do well no matter what, and the rest of the league will be in the crapper This is essentially a complete publicity stunt, I am SHOCKED that they even rated getting a meeting with the NHL Steve
