<<Jeff Hardy pinned WWF IC Champion Triple H to win the title at 8:06 with the Swanton after Matt Hardy ran in the ring and hit the champion over the head with a steel chair (4/10/01; Philadelphia, PA)>> I taped the Raw the day before with the same match. It was a great match. I came home from work to my wife's (then g/f's) apartment and watched Raw. Her roomie came home halfway through the match and was surprised to see me up at 2:00AM, much less watching wrestling. She was from Honduras and didn't speak a lick of English. She'd just give me weird looks when I'd jump to the floor and count with the ref and then cover my head when HHH would kick out. I'm not a big Jeff Hardy fan, but it was just great stuff. The funny part was that Barbara -- the roomie -- couldn't go to bed until I went to bed, as she slept on the couch. There was no way I was going stop the tape in the middle of that match. A few weeks or so later, the downward spiral occured, with Undertaker and Kane stepping up to take on HHH and Austin after the Boyz were destroyed.

I'm not surprised, apparently Bret wiped the floor with him. I think it was one of LOD who said Bret would've killed him had it not been broken up. It wasn't Shawn's first scuffle. On their last night with the company in 1995, The Bruise Brothers politely informed Shawn that they were a little displeased with his conduct. One of them barred the locker room door, and the other grabbed Shawn by the throat and held him up against the wall, while gently informing Shawn that he had commited a faux pas. Which Bruise Brothers were these? 1995 was during my WWF "blackout" period (93-98). I have seen some tapes of 1995, but not much.

Markish impressions you had as a youth
LessonInMachismo replied to Steve J. Rogers's topic in General Wrestling
We used to think that NWA and others were like the "minor leagues" and WWF was the big league. My dad used to call NWA "generic" wrestling. There'd be like less than 1,000 people in the crowd. -
Jericho's debut brings tears to my eyes. That pop was just awesome when his name appeared on the TitanTron.

I have my Attitude era WWE Championship belt up on my bookcase. Looks good. As for Big Gold, I would go with the HHHeavyweight title. It's probably of much higher quality than the WCW replicas.

More like the product of Frankie and Fred Savage DNA being intermingled.

Will Bob find himself on the receiving end of an RKO? Or at least a tease of one?

Heh, when I first started watching, me and my friends thought the were "guys from the crowd." They were usually flabby and untanned and just looked like regular guys. That theory was shattered when I noticed the same guys showing up every week. As for markishness... I never thought it was real, and my parents' friends would always ask them "You've told him it's not real, right?" But at the same time, I thought that sometimes guys really get mad and try to hurt each other (Jake and Rude, for example.) That isn't too far from the truth. My smartness first came in a small dose in 1987 from a little book called Wrestling Superstars II, which I believe was mentioned a few months ago. I got it from one of those little book sheets they handed out in elementary school. It's pretty much kayfabe with some shoot facts mixed in. However, the chapter on Vince McMahon, Jr. is like a straight shoot. It talks about how he pissed of traditionalists and ran off guys like Windham and Rotundo. My second dose came in...1990, I believe. It was at Youth Group winter retreat. The preacher guy in charge made the name of the retreat "Slamming Your Giants." Of course, the "Giants" were analogs for your temptations. In his first sermon, he talked about getting on a plane full of WWF guys and meeting them. He told us how Ultimate Warrior trained to be a chiropractor. He told us their shoot names. The next day, they broke the whole camp into groups and we had to plan our own skits about slamming "Giants." Some dork in our group was a Pat Riley fan and slicked his hair back and stuff...he wanted our skit to be about slamming like in basketball. Everyone agreed with him. Everyone but me. I was unhappy. Later on, I was talking to some older kid about wrestling and he told me about blading and stuff. Pretty cool. -
What about Rude's WCW debut (not NWA) as the Phantom?

1. Who is Bob Barron? I am forgoing a google search just to get the REAL story of who this character is. 2. Molly is the Enigmatic Sexpot.

He once randomly speared and jackhammered an empty box. He's a fan, all right. Man, you people need to lighten the fuck up. Geez. Just laugh or ignore and move on. I really did do that, though, that wasn't one of my condescending jokes. I was being serious, not facetious. Only a wrestling fan would see a big, empty box and think to spear and jackhammer it. Randomly. I have done shit like that before, too. It is so difficult to read intentions and mood in posts, is it not? Maybe we need light beer?

The last promo where he sat on a chair was definitely different, though.

Worst wrestling related conversationd you've heard

<<Worst wrestling related conversationd you've heard>> How about anything the media produces? "The Rock is a white supremacist skinhead." "She's a stunt granny!" Here is my question...where in the hell did they get the idea that they hand out signs at shows? Did WCW do that or something? -
I thought I read that PJ Walker was there at the bar fight.

Tunney did one of his proclamations on Superstars, which was repeated on all the other shows. He said that since the three was counted and the bell rang and the title was awarded to Andre, it was his. But Andre got on the mic said he "surrendered" it to DiBiase. Tunney said that surrendering the title to another wrestler was not permissible (obviously). But surrendering the title (standing down as champ) is totally within the rules. Since Andre surrendered the title, he lost it, so it was held up and Andre became the shortest-reigning WWF champ of all time. It makes sense. BTW, that was all going from memory, so if I got any minute details wrong, forgive me.

WCW facts, tidbits, and stuff people forgot

Alex Wright was wrestling Paul Roma at Superbrawl V. Roma was calling the match and gave Wright almost no offence beyond the winning move at the end. I mean what does scuppered mean? I looked it up. Cool word. -
You mean to make people happy?

That is the first WWF video I ever saw. I was home from school sick and my mother brought it to me from the rental place. I was amazed at how different it looked from WWF on TV. I started WWF in late '86, and the whole design of the ring and stuff looked so much more professional than on the Classic. I also remember a goofy call when Davey Boy hit the top rope with his crotch and the ref called for the bell. I do not remember the Hogan/Piper match being on the tape, though.
-
There is a vs. Piper match on the Hulk Rules DVD from 11/7/85. It is entitled "Wrestlevision." Is this one of the aforementioned matches? It was one of the best Hogan matches I have ever seen.

He was. Hence the "brought back" question. Russo took over a few weeks before the bizarre PPV Halloween Havoc '99. He was pushed out in early January for sucking. Scuppered? What is this?
