harden pitched extremely well today. he only had two bad at-bats. it was the first one to granderson & the one to monroe where he hit the homerun. i don't think he should be ashamed at all. kenny rogers on the other hand has been pitching like sandy koufax. NO ONE saw this coming. even their most die-hard fans. and i'm with bruiser, i just can't see them not winning the world series, either. especially with the mets having only one top end pitcher at their disposal. the tigers look like they'll steam rool right through them. and leyland has the power of god in him, every decision has been golden for them.

i'd say levon helm's wheels on fire is about as bitter a book anyone will read. its interesting to hear about the band's rise to glory, and its equally pathetic to hear what they became because of the drugs. robertson took those junkies for all they were worth.

the a's should be happy that casey is out. their only real big left handed bat. the tigers have a thin bench, losing anyone hurts. maybe neifi can get some at-bats.

well well well. my two favorite childhood teams. i don't think i know more about any two teams. i guess i'll give my very unbiased opinion. starting pitching: advantage a's. i'd take 4 top end guys over anything the tigers have. all four of the tigers starters could already be out of gas. verlander, bonderman, and rogers could all be out of gas due to their ages. when robertson pitches, he'll do just enough to win & a lot to lose. he won't overpower & rarely impresses. relief pitching: advantage tigers. zumaya, rodney, and jones are almost lights out if the tigers have a lead into the 7th inning. jamie walker is a capable left handed specialist. wil ledezma & jason grilli are capable long distance relievers. the only guy that scares me is zack miner. but even he did some magnificent things earlier in the year. the a's bullpen is not horrible by any means. duchscherer, kennedy, calero, and street are all capable relievers. blanton and sarloos are probably better long relievers than what the tigers are offering, though. but none of a's have the over-powering strength of zumaya or the cagey veteran dependancy of todd jones. defense: advantage tigers. at nearly every position, the tigers are stronger in the field. losing the middle infielders hurts the a's tremendously. while guillen nearly led the a.l. in errors, he is still capable of making critical plays. polanco is a strong defensive influence. the only position that the a's have a better player at is 3rd base, but even that comes with some question marks. chvez has been hurting for awhile & inge has slowly developed a reputation as one of the stronger fielders in the league. while the tigers don't have any speedsters, they could look to challenger jason kendall's arm. the same will not be said about the a's against pudge. hitting: tie. while the tigers may have a more balanced line-up, they do not have that one game changing bat in the middle of their line-up. both of the tigers big name bats (pudge & magglio) were silent in the first round. it was streaky & unproven stars like curtis granderson, marcus thames, and craig monroe who made the difference. dependable batters like sean casey, carlos guillen, and polanco chipped in nicely as well. conversley, the a's have a hot & healthy future h.o.f. in the middle of their line-up who can burn ANYONE at anytime. he's propped up by a suddenly post season mvp candidate marcus scutaro as well as jason kendall & mark kotsay. ultimately, the a's will need eric chavez & milton bradley to bust of their slumps to succeed. just as quickly as the tigers unheralded stars broke out, they can fall silent. winner: banky.

I don't necessarily disagree about this particular song, but you can make this argument about any cheesy 80's pop song. You could say the same thing about Bon Jovi or Def Leppard but they still suck. i don't think either has released anything nearly as brilliant born to run (the song). or even close. but i'm sure there's others like springsteen where great songs have come from usually bad/boring artists.

mash ups are usually quite awful. and i am directly opposed to any hip house duo from france remixing an indie rock song. such a conflict of interest. though, i do usually like original music from said hip house duo from france. as far as rap goes, i like those because they don't transform the song. it essentially stays the same except a fellow mc will get a verse or whatever. which is inoffensive. i really enjoyed kanye, paul wall, and t.i.'s drive slow remix this summer. that was really nice. and of course, hustlin' with jay & weezy. but that was an unbelievable song to begin with.

i was thinking the same thing. he seemed far too chilled out for being on the brink of elimination.

the a's staff is better, i think. the tigers best three pitchers won their games. after that, they're in trouble. the a's have 5 guys who are quite good. robertson really isn't all that great sometimes.

8-0 casey is playing better than he did the regular season. by far. paul: you're right. but i'm sure the internalized some of it. they had a certain swagger in game 1. they don't have that anymore. i could be way wrong.

No. This could never reach 2004 levels. Not even a 3 game sweep would have been like that. I'm not so sure the Yankees underestimated this team at all, or claimed they shouldn't be in the playoffs. That's just some Leyland kool-aid. edit: And it was all a media swirl with the "best lineup ever" stuff. That had yet to be proven, and was proven false. give me a break. i read nearly every experts column/picks for this series, not ONE picked the tigers. not one. after getting swept by the royals, everyone & myself included, wrote off the tigers. its not a bad thing that people underestimated the team, except for the opponant.

this one will hurt almost as much as the sox comeback. this is a first round loss to a team they underestimated & thought shouldn't even be in the playoffs. its been 6 years now since they've won. for yank fans, i don't think its "oh well, next year" anymore like it has been in the past.

a-rod was gone in july. he won't be back.
