  1. You took my answer, simply because he was a fantasy stud that year (top 3 scorer among MLB outfielders) and I used a keeper pick on him the following year.

    The 2009 NFL Offseason

The Chiefs should take a note from the Cards, grab Crabtree and start building around him and Dwayne Bowe now. Andre Smith would be a great pick if there weren't league concerns about his commitment to staying in shape. The ideal pick would be an offensive linemen like Smith or Eugene Monroe, but they need skill positions now who can lure free agents to a rebuilding project. Give Thigpen another year with Bowe and Crabtree, and see if he makes any strides with those two (although any quarterback worth a shit will look like a star with those receivers). EDIT: I bet that's the pick. I'll check back in three months.

He's the 2nd to 4th best receiver in a draft that's frontloaded with pass-rushers, linebackers and offensive linemen. I can't imagine more than 7-8 skill position players being drafted in the first round. Even with a top combine, teams will be hesitant to take him over Maclin and Harvin, who are assumed to be sure-fire elite receivers at the next level.

    The 2009 NFL Offseason

To get back to the original point... The only viable option out there in the FA class is Warner, and he's going to be locked up in a few weeks. On the draft end, the Eagles front office will not be able to justify another quarterback in the early rounds, and said player would have to play behind Kolb anyway. The best solution is another sure-handed wideout, and the draft is full of late 1st-round/early 2nd round picks. Harvin, Maclin, Nicks, Heyward-Bay (Maryland), Bennett (Vandy) and Britt (Rutgers). Take a flier on a Nicks or Britt and wait another year to address the QB situation.
  5. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't that the stretch with the Piazza walk-off homer? EDIT: It was. That was the definitive moment for NY baseball fans after 9/11. And as much as I wanted to cheer for the Yankees in the World Series, seeing them lose in that fashion, given Mariano's postseason history, and Unit walking onto the mound to relieve Schilling, made Game 7 the best game I have ever watched.
  6. The Lakers just need a real point guard before they can think of putting it all together to take the NBA title this year. Fisher, Farmar and Vujacic are just absolute retards on defense and Game 6 of the Finals last year should've been the last straw with that trio. They seem to excel at fucking up whatever strides Kobe, Odom and Gasol make in a game.
  7. Memphis is pulling the dick move of all dick moves. They actually waived him a few days ago to avoid guaranteeing his contract of the season, then re-signed him just to fuck with the Blazers. The best part of this entire situation is that over $250,000 will go to each of the other teams in the league, straight out of the Blazers' pockets. However, the worst part of it is the NBA refusing to give the Blazers salary-cap relief since Miles basically defied the ruling of two doctors. The NBA's stipulations regarding medical retirements and non-active contacts (see Keith Van Horn being used as trade bait last year) are beyond ridiculous. If it wasn't for the luxury tax, would any of these teams really care about Darius Miles? Go and sign SAR or Hassan Adams or Keon Clark or any of the other 750 scrubs in the free agent pool. The Grizzlies don't need to be burning bridges with teams when they essentially use everyone as trade bait anyway.

No. EDIT: Huh, no he didn't. But then again, Forte and Johnson got the majority of the media attention this season.
  9. I don't know how Gray can manage to lose thirty pounds in the offseason, yet somehow move slower on the court.
  10. It doesn't help that their secondary is undersized year after year. Hawai'i has a tendency to take solid two-way athletes from high school and move them to receiver, the obviously more glamorous position with the offense they run. This wouldn't be a problem, except that the Warriors run 5-wide with a depth chart that's sometimes 10-deep. What's left are fat running backs who can't run, and short corners who get beat on deep routes on a consistent basis. I'll agree on the ND assessment, though - the Warriors have looked like an absolute mess all year under McMackin. I don't take any stock in what the Irish did yesterday, and I expect them to fail again next season after being pumped up all spring.
  11. What happens to Swisher with this signing? I don't think the Yanks are going to field an outfield of Damon/Nady/Swisher/Melky/Matsui, even with Matsui exclusively at DH. That leaves an above-average player on the bench, and that's not even considering Brett Gardner who will also come off the bench. EDIT: Or the deal with the Brewers that does the Melky/Cameron flip-flop.

    NFL Week 16

Is there a more sympathetic figure in the league than Brian Westbrook? He is surrounded by a bunch of fucking retards, both on the field and on the sideline.
  13. 1. Analyze the Peavy situation. Who cracks first, Towers with his demands, or a GM who would overpay for Peavy? 2. Atlanta was willing to give Furcal 3 yrs @ $30 mil before he signed with the Dodgers. Is this simply a case of the Braves not having any clue what to do with their payroll now that Burnett and (supposedly) Peavy are off the market?
  14. Exactly. ESPN has done a great job of blowing the Cavaliers without mentioning the shit-tastic schedule they've had during the streak. Hawks, Knicks twice, Thunder, Warriors, Bucks, Pacers, Bobcats, Raptors, and the Sixers twice? Is Hollinger really using the term "dominance" when it comes to beating these teams?
  15. Assuming that all college players who haven't declared, will declare, who should the Lions take with the first pick come April? This is more of keying in on a position they need, not who they exactly need.
  16. I'd say they would be great if they don't stick it to him for being a rookie. Iverson will likely get the fan ballot vote, but I don't see anyone but Devin Harris and Rose getting the reserve vote. Rondo, Bibby, Mo Will and Miller aren't having the seasons Harris and Rose are.
  17. Hahahahahaha.

    NFL Week 13

Does anyone remember how cut-and-dry the offseason was when Bledsoe left? Was this a foregone conclusion, even after Bledsoe won the AFC Championship game for them? Serious question; I honestly don't remember. If Cassel makes a deep run into the postseason, and I'm talking Super Bowl, we may have something here.
  19. I never bought into those complaints that the Bulls needed to be blown up and rebuilt around Rose....until last night. Holy shit, they were bad. I don't even know how you can salvage that team in any way. Rose and Deng are the only players you should covet, Noah, Nocioni and Gooden too for their hustle and defense. Everyone else should be released. EVERYONE. Gordon and Hughes, in their combined years of experience, have never grasped an offensive scheme. They shoot jumpers off of transition regardless of whether it's 1-on-3 or 4-on-1, they both drive baseline 95% of the time and neither has the strength to finish. Let's not even forget they both don't play a lick of defense. Aaron Gray is the slowest player in the league today. Tyrus Thomas is the dumbest player in the league today. Thabo hasn't made any progress since coming into the league. Hinrich shouldn't fit into the team's plans with Rose entrenched as the primary ballhandler and slasher. Lindsey Hunter, Michael Ruffin and Cedric Simmons are gone this June regardless.
  20. Rick Carlisle with another retarded play-call. If you didn't see it, 0.4 seconds left and the Mavericks are down 3, but with the ball being inbounded from just inside halfcourt, on the right side. Keep that in mind. Kidd, the inbounder, is making the pass regardless of who you match up on him. The only matter is the shooter getting a shot off. So what kind of play do you run with that amount of time left? A. Double-screen which leaves any shooter you want open, at the top of the key. Since you're inbounding from the right side of the court, you can catch and shoot quite easily. B. Hand off to shooter at the point where Brandon Roy caught the ball last night. A harder shot, but you're guaranteed a look. C. Run an under-screen, then inbound to the sideline, where the receiver has to catch the ball, while turning his body, and shoot a closer shot. Because it's an under screen on a bounce pass, the shooter is forced to draw contact or fade away. If you choose C, you are Rick Carlisle. Why would you run an inbound pass to the shooter (Gerald Green) that runs across his body...with FOUR-TENTHS OF A SECOND LEFT. Of course, even with a clean look, the clock expires before Green is even squaring up. Is this really that hard? Fuck.
  21. ...doesn't every sport have that rule? EDIT: Holy shit, Brandon Roy just daggered the Rockets with a 40-foot heave to win the game, moments after Yao hits a sick and-1 fadeaway to take the lead. Both possessions came with only three seconds left on the clock.
  22. It's 16, but 14-15 is allowed with the 5-year rule. Same goes with Iowa, Maine, Jersey and Pennsylvania, although Jersey allows 13 year olds with consent. But trust me, I wouldn't flinch at your reply, either. These AOC rules are routinely broken around our city, and it's socially acceptable.
  23. True, but it could just be a product of the murderous streak of games they just went through, or the fact that their run defense forces opponents to pass. Here's the breakdown in opponent's passing yardage... v. FAU - (255 on 39 pass attempts, 37 yards on 23 rush attempts) v. UTEP - (267 on 46 pass attempts, 145 yards on 31 rush attempts) v. Rice - (301 yards on 48 pass attempts, 17 yards on 24 rush attempts) v. Arkansas - (180 yards on 28 pass attempts, 26 yards on 11 rush attempts) v. Colorado - (217 yards on 38 pass attempts, 49 yards on 28 rush attempts) Up to this point, the most points Texas allowed was 14. v. Oklahoma (387 on 41 pass attempts, 48 yards on 26 rush attempts) v. Mizzou (318 on 41 pass attempts, 30 yards on 19 rush attempts) v. OK State (199 on 27 pass attempts, 217 yards on 37 rush attempts) v. Tech (474 on 53 pass attempts, 105 yards on 28 rush attempts) EDIT: Herbstreit has it Bama-Penn-Tech-Florida-USC in the top 5, which I can agree with.
  24. He said that the Astros wore the road uniforms last night to "make a statement" to MLB, and that these two games should not count as a home game. I now want the Astros to fail in every way possible.

    NFL Week 2

Seriously, after watching the Seahawks and Rams play, the Niners actually have a chance of winning their division. That's how bad the NFC West is. At least the 'Hawks have an excuse with their entire receiving corps out for a majority of the season. The Rams are just bad. Marc Bulger had this look on his face all game to the tune of "get me the fuck out of here", Steven Jackson is just happy to have his money, and Scott Linehan is calling quasi-option plays on 3rd down. Why are they packing it in with this division? My god, 7-9 could win this division.
