I ask that everyone please read the write-ups (as I will be doing) before they post their picks. In fact, I will be making picks based solely on each team's gameplan. On my behalf, my write-up shaped my team because I picked the "best fit" over available talent (or best talent available). If you still feel that Gert's team is the better team, that is fine (and in fact, I hate this matchup because I felt that Gert put together a great "team" as well).

It's both teams, though. I can buy an excuse for false start penalties considering it's the season opener and everyone's still getting their timing back, but we have illegal blocks and holding penalties at the end of decent-yardage plays that are just retarded.

Just showed the Brady play during the Jets/Fins game. It didn't look too serious from their replay...

Punter, Craig Hentrich.

Boxing (Superheavyweight), Water Polo and Team Handball. All gold medal matches in progress or near completion. That would be it, though.

Hearing the game without commentary is worth it just to hear the court chatter, though I thought I'd hear more communication between the teams. It looks like the U.S. realized at halftime that they better treat this as a game of epic proportions. Kobe hit the 4-point dagger and reacted as if it were Game 7 of the NBA Finals.

That is the best post-championship interview ever. It has everything that you would want in a celebration interview, only ramped up a hundred notches because it's the first championship for KG, the poster child for over-the-top intensity. Everything from the KG scream, 'We Are The Champions' in the background, the cursing, the random white guy playing the hype man, the random shoutouts, the "passing the torch" segment with Russell, and as you mentioned, Garnett making a pass at Michelle Tafoya.

With Randle-El (the holder) and this man, every FG attempt will be must-watch. Gadget plays, baby! Quarterback/Kicker, George Blanda 6'2", 215 lbs. HOF Inductee - 1981 4 Pro Bowls ('61, '62, '63 and '67) 7 All-Pro selections ('61, '62, '63, '66, '67, '70 and '73) 1963 AFL MVP Not a great FG kicker (I think just over 50%), but he was exceptionally better after he chose kicking as his primary position (65-70% average), so he is serviceable enough with good field position. The x-factor is obviously what he could do wire-to-wire in a game; there are various instances where he threw the game-tying TD pass, kicked the PAT to actually tie it, then kick a FG to win the game. I just had to get some of these records he holds from wikipedia: --Passing TD's in a game: 7 (tied) --Most seasons played: 26 (1949-58, 1960-75) --Only player to play in 4 different decades; (40s, 50s, 60s, 70s) --Most PATs made (943) and attempted (959) --Oldest person to play in an NFL game: 48 years, 110 days --First player ever to score over 2,000 points (finished with 2,002 points)

Saturday, July 4th, 2009. Aloha Stadium. Penn/GSP II. A far-fetched dream, I know, but the December show would be fine enough with Nogueira/Mir and Griffin defending.

Hey Kahran, sorry, my PM function isn't working, but I see you viewing this, so you're up.

Interchangeable tackles on both sides of the ball. Samuels and this man will alternate at LT and RT... Jordan Gross. He's got an All-Pro selection under his belt already, but I'm going more with his pass protection (hasn't allowed more than 3 sacks in a season) and his aforementioned versality. At 6'4" and 300 lbs., I'm going to need a banger to protect Manning from the d-ends being drafted.

FUCK THE TAPE DELAY. If it was live here in Hawai'i, I wouldn't have stumbled past my mom flipping stations in the kitchen, accidentally finding ESPN News with the Phelps press conference. I can't believe that she was as pissed about that as I was. I avoided spoilers all day at work, locked myself in an office for the last two hours so that no one could spoil it, and then tape delay/live feed fucks me again.

I talked to my school's athletic trainer (coach's perks!) earlier and he said Roy has two options with this injury, which doesn't really range in severity: 1. Repair the tear completely, sidelined 4-6 months. He won't be "as good as new", but it's better than the second option... 2. Remove the meniscus completely, sidelined 6-8 weeks at most, but risk future knee surgery (the big risk being microfracture) because there would be no cartilage. I didn't ask, but I guess they would have to remove both from his knee in the surgery since they'd be useless without the other.

Like I mentioned earlier, my plan involved drafting defensive tackles who were adept ends as well. This man was a force at the line when I was growing up, the bright spot of an otherwise boring (and sometimes terrible) Browns team. I can imagine how bad that defense would've been without Clay Matthews and this man. Being incredibly quick at both positions, the Browns would shift him from nose guard to lead pass-rusher on the same drive without batting an eye. Too bad this guy was overshadowed by the large...umm...shadow of his older brother... Michael Dean Perry. 6'1", 285 lbs. 6 Pro Bowls ('89-'91, '93, '94 and '96) 4 All-Pro selections (1st team: '89 and '90, 2nd team: '93 and '94) Career (1988-97) - 61 sacks (2nd in Browns franchise history behind Matthews), 470 tackles (4th all-time, but most all-time by a lineman) It's now on his wiki, but I remember Gaines Adams being scouted and hearing that he tied MDP's Clemson University school record of 28 sacks.

That scene at 4:01 or so where the "USA" graphic pops up, with Phelps and Weber-Gale celebrating by the pool, Lezak celebrating in the pool and Cullen Jones in the bottom portion of the screen - goddamn, that was great.

Seeking NFL Expansion Drafts for 1996, 99 and 03
Fökai replied to BruteSquad_BRODY's topic in Sports
I understand the model of what the NFL was trying to do with the draft, but this isn't the NBA; you can't make it by with 3-4 good-great players, a bunch of role players and future top draft picks. These teams were scraping the bottom of the barrel by the 6th round. I know you can't force teams to put "better-than-decent" players on their lists, but at least eliminate the protection rule. Boselli was the jewel of the expansion draft, but wasn't he already injury-plagued? -
I realize now that I should've used these bookend picks on both lineman, because now I'm praying that the last tackle I want will remain on the board. Anyway, I wussed out on the space-eating tackle, basically because I realized that these teams needed beast tackles who excelled at both pass-rushing and run-defense. After all, this is an all-time draft. Here's one... Defensive Tackle, Ray Childress. 6'6", 272 lbs 5 Pro Bowls ('88, '90, '91, '92 and '93) 6 All Pro Selections ('88 - '93) Career (1985-96)- 76.5 sacks, 13 sacks in '92, single-season record by a DT. As adept at end as he was at tackle (drafted 3rd overall in '85 draft as a DE), who Pro-Bowled at both positions, so I'm putting up a fierce 4-3 and 3-4 defense in the same drive. The anchor of a retooled Oiler defense that finished in the top 10 in both pass and rush defense for four consecutive years. Another dirt-tough player; missed only 3 games in his career.

Well, I've got one of the best offensive minds in Bill Walsh, and I'm now adding one of the best defensive minds in the game... Cornerback. 6'1", 185 lbs. 3 Pro Bowls ('64, '65 and '66) Career (1959-'72): 62 INT's (Lions' franchise record, tied for 7th all-time in NFL), 9 fumble recoveries 171 consecutive games played, a record for all secondary players. A second coach on the field. Started at Ohio State for a national championship team...at cornerback and halfback. He is credited with inventing the "zone blitz" scheme, which Wehrli, Woodson and Fencik would all love. Already made a career of playing in great secondary duos (Night Train, Yale Lary and Barney) and paired with Werhli, will make a killing on the field.

I picked up a Seagate Free Agent Pro 750GB for about $125 on eBay and I have no complaints or issues after about six months of ownership. And yes, the protection plan is worthless in this case. My first Seagate (a cheapo 80 GB) crashed soon after purchase, and the best they could do was send in it for repair. They'll still be forced to charge you hundreds to attempt to save the data on there.

Well, Colt will be the backup by default because Collins will be killed in the new offense. I'm not going to argue about what Campbell can or can't do. If he picks up the WCO this quickly, more power to him. He will unquestionably be the Redskins' franchise quarterback if he finds success with it. But Brennan has the leg up on him. Again, don't get me wrong, this isn't a quarterback controversy of any kind, but things are working in Colt's favor.

The Georgia D-Line crushed the Hawai'i line in every way that day - this was the worst line in years because of players leaving early. Nor have they ever had a top LT to protect guys like Rolovich, Robinson, Chang and Colt. We always needed scramblers to succeed because of this, and the only statue of the four was Chang, who was torn limb from limb every game. It also didn't help that the Warriors' halfbacks have been notoriously bad pass-blockers for nearly a decade (in part because the schemes are too complicated), so any top-level LB in the country would've had their way with them. Brennan has every chance to succeed in the NFL. He has the playbook, the blockers, the possession receivers and the deep threats. Jason Campbell had all of this and still failed last season. Let's give Colt a few seasons to see if he fits the bill. If I were Campbell, I probably wouldn't be scared, but I'd notice that alot of the "new" offense is already programmed into Colt's brain.
